bamarider
I currently ride a 08 multistrada and am looking for a change since I've had it for several years. I had a fz1 before the multi and it was a great bike and from what i've read about the fj09 sure i would like it also. I've found some 15 & 16 mdls in my area for 8 to 9k and will go with one of those. My question is are there any difference between those 2 year mdls that would justify the 1k price difference? Premium Member DavidS Posted March 24, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted March 24, 2017 I can't think of any changes between the two years except colors. And going to the 17 will cost you a lot more.
Premium Member chadman Posted March 24, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted March 24, 2017 Sorry for the obvious question, but isn't going from an MST to an FJ kinda like going from, uh, a Camry to an Accord? They're kinda the same bike, no? docsimple
you can do comaprisons on the yamaha webpage: https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/supersport-touring/models/2017/fj-09/compare/?compId=56bd7dc49020091d7ca02f12 they also have section called "New for 2017" on this page: https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/supersport-touring/models/fj-09 2015 Red FJ 09 2013 WR250R - little boy blue - sold 2012 DL650 V Strom - sold 2007 FZ6 - sold 1986 FJ600 - sold

They're kinda the same bike, no?No, multistrada is more heavy and leans towards the Touring side. The FJ is lighter and more "flickable". Are they similar? Sure, but unless it is a cruiser most bikes are "similar". Also check repair prices on a Duc vs Yamaha, you might find a difference there too. By no means am I dissing the Multistrada. Ducati makes some fine bikes. 2015 Red FJ 09 2013 WR250R - little boy blue - sold 2012 DL650 V Strom - sold 2007 FZ6 - sold 1986 FJ600 - sold
Supporting Member betoney Posted March 24, 2017 Supporting Member Share Posted March 24, 2017 Between '15 and '16 I cant think of any changes except the forward facing oil drain bolt and color. For '17 they added the assist/slipper clutch and additional traction control mode... and of course the white model! ***2015 Candy Red FJ-09***

The newer MSTs are formidable beasts, and very similar to the FJ except for, as you note, reliability. docsimple
I don't like the looks of the FZ10. Not only is it ugly that radiator is bound to get a rock, zero wind protection, limited luggage, limited gas and did I mention it's ugly? I'm sure its a blast to ride as long as you are not leaving town or riding in the rain or wanting to camp or like to ride off-road. 2015 Red FJ 09 2013 WR250R - little boy blue - sold 2012 DL650 V Strom - sold 2007 FZ6 - sold 1986 FJ600 - sold

They're kinda the same bike, no? Yes they are close to the same but i like this type of bike. The multi is a great bike but theres a few issues with these bikes. They are pledged with swelling gas tankes, mine has been replaced at lest 4 times. Ducati just used the same material till a lawsuit was settled. There's also no centerstand available. Maintiance isn't to bad, but it is quite a bit than the yamaha.
