tomfromon
Probably it's too early to check on insurance costs however I understand that the FZ 09 is considered a super sport to some carriers i.e. R1 level and wondering if they'll peg the FJ differently? mjh937
Just curious and please forgive me if I offend you, but how much are you paying to insure your Ducati?
gabefzr6
Always shop around for bike insurance no matter what you have been quoted in the past. So far, I've run the numbers through two companies. I didn't have a VIN number yet so these may not be totally accurate. Company A quoted $860. Company B quoted $320. 2008 Street Triple G 2015 FJ-

xcsp
Thinking the FJ will be classified the same as an FZ. When I checked to see what an FZ would cost to insure it was about the same as my FJR, which the purchase price is quite a bit more than an FZ-09. redfjniner
I dropped Comp and Collision coverage on my FZ-09 and the cost was about the same as my 05 FJR, with those coverages. I rode the FJR 19,000 miles last year vs. the FZ at 5,500. I think the FJ will be less than the FZ. I hope. The insurance guy went home at 12 noon, 10 min. before I got to the office on Wed. Will let you know tomorrow, if he is in. Ken, Candy Ass L.D.R. Geico classifies them differently. $350 a year full coverage with pretty high limits for the FJ. FZ was priced at $1500 a year, same coverage. xcsp
TT, that would be cool if the rate is less. Just need to keep the pictures off the 'net of test riders doing wheelies so the ins. companies don't get the wrong idea!!
redfjniner
xcsp: Good luck on them not doing wheelies. I have been waiting for a week now, to get my quote from Allstate. They have no idea. dndfindley
My insurance, Farm Bureau, sets rates based on the total cost of the motorcycle, not what type it is. The higher the price tag - the higher the premium. I paid the same for a sportbike as I paid for my wife's maxi scooter as both cost about the same. FigJam-OhNine
This will obviously vary drastically by province/state, but I have the highest discount level from ICBC in British Columbia, and got private insurance for half of it. Total cost for the year was almost $1300! More than my Mazdaspeed 3. If I didn't qualify for private insurance, to do it all through ICBC was closer to $2000. If you don't have your safe drivers discounts, I can't even imagine how much it would be to insure this thing up here. Also, the insurance rep said it's not about the category of bike, but all about the CC's in BC. Anything above 750cc is gonna cost ya. My Ninja 300, by comparison, was about $800. mark
I live in Texas and use Dairyland County Mutual. It by far the cheapest I have found here. I had just paid on 11/22 for a year on my FZ-09 full coverage with 500 deductable. I traded in the FZ for the FJ on 12/22 after having the FZ 13 months. I just transfered the insurance when I traded. Today I got a check in the mail for 49.30 . With Dairyland the FZ was considered a Sport and the FJ they call Touring.. Some times insurance is weird. With the same company I paid less for a 24,000 HD Electra Glide Ultra Limited than I did for a 7000 FZ. The HD was about the same as my FJ. With this company they class them as sport , Touring, etc to get the rate. And by the way I did enjoy the FZ and liked it a lot but like the FJ much better. redfjniner
Finally got a quote form my Allstate agent. Totally wacko. Looking at 50k/100k/25K, $500 deductible, Comp & collision, 5000 medical. 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 $1129 2015 Yamaha FJR1300 AE $835 2015 Yamaha FZ-09 $852 2015 BMW F800GT $419 WACKO. I could almost buy the BMW in cost saving over 10 years. WACKO. Motorcycle costing $6000 more pay $300 less. WACKO. Hooligan bike same size motor and still costing $300 less. WACKO. I have to now go shopping. Went to Geico: 100k/300k/25k, 100D comp, 1000D collision, 2000 medical, 2000 accessory. Two bikes, 05 FJR1300abs+15 FJ-09abs $839. Assume FJ at 438 and FJR at 400. Mean while I checked the price at Geico for that BMW F800GT and it came in at $582. Good idea to shop around as Allstate was cheaper on that one. Checked Progressive: it was $832, with FJ at 438. xcsp
I'll have to check & see what insurance will cost prior to pulling the trigger on an FJ, my FJR runs me less than $400 with 250k/500k/100k lia., under & uninsured, roadside assist. & acc. coverage so this should prove to be interesting.
