CalTrans just said they're doing a major project that will require them to shut down lanes and stop traffic through the Dunsmuir/Castle Crags area. They expect up to 4 hour delays and backups of 20 miles. Lesson learned several decades ago, - travel on the weekend prior or after but NEVER during any national holiday weekend. It's actually quite cool today, barely into the 90's.
