  1. Took my bike in for maintenance interval and had my mechanic rode my bike around the block but he said he didn't observe anything out of the norm. I'm not sure if he was able to reproduce the issue though since it doesn't happen all the time.
  2. I've been looking to do a weekend trip down to Baja Mexico from the Orange County area at some point later this year for a change of scenery. I've seen a lot of videos on Youtube of people riding past beautiful looking bays that are further down south or require lots of off-roading to get to but since I'm riding a Tracer 9 GT and limited to 2 days to get there and back, my options are a bit more limited. Ideally, I'd use the first day to head out somewhere and stay the night then spend the following day doing some mild exploring and then ride back home. Has anyone tripped around North Baja and can comment on good places to ride and visit?
  3. I'm jealous, that looks super fun!
  4. Just got a little 12v USB car adapter for my Tracer 9 GT, which I'm plugging into the power outlet on the left of the dash but over the course of an hour ride, it managed to slip itself halfway out of the socket due to bike vibrations. Anyone have any tricks to keep it wedged in tight?
  5. Foam all the way. I've tried custom ones from the audiologist and they would never fit tight and putting on or taking off my helmet would sometimes pull them out. For foam, I've tried Howard Leight Laser Lites and generic ones from the hardware store but I recently tried Hearos and they blow the others out of the water. They are made of softer and more squishy material so they are way more comfortable and they don't seem to wedge themselves out over time like the others.
  6. Totally agree but I ride a lot of freeway and am looking to cut out as much fatigue and wind noise as possible. My tinnitus has been getting pretty bad so hoping to get a windscreen with a good balance of wind protection and aesthetics. Yea, it doesn't get too frosty where I am but the wind noise is killing me these days so I'm trying to find a solution to cut down on the wind blast. I haven't tried the clip on windscreens yet but I do a lot of video recording from my GoPro and I want the view to be as clean looking as possible. Ideally I'd get the MadStad but then the shape looks a bit funky 😀.
  7. Can I ask how tall you are? You've sold me on "zero air hits me" 😁
  8. Now that's a trip! Always a sucker for good nature-y roads and scenery.
  9. I'm in the OC so a bit far! I was recently referred a good shop here, which I'll probably be checking out at some point in the next few months.
  10. On that same note, is the Yamaha touring windscreen the same for 2019-2020 Tracer 900 and Tracer GT? They have the same product page (https://shopyamaha.com/product/details/tracer-900-touring-windshield?dealernumber=), albeit with different product IDs but wasn't sure if they were identical as sometimes only the IDs are different. 11. I installed mine last weekend and it went better than expected. 100% on making sure you document the whole process with pictures/videos as necessary and organizing parts into separate containers. The only problem I had was when trying to put things back together. The 3 plastic push rivets that hold the seat plastic trim to the bracket on the gas tank...one of them broke and the other two were somehow too large to fit back into the hole...no idea how they were installed. I'm pretty sure I didn't accidentally swap them with other push rivets too. Anyway, I ended up ordering new ones off Partzilla and am still waiting for them to deliver.
  12. It had ~3300 miles when I got it and it's at ~3700 now. I'm trying to convince myself it's nothing but I'm going to take it in just to get peace of mind.
  13. I think I might have found the issue. After searching on Google, I came across this post on an FZ-09 forum - https://www.fz09.org/threads/yamaha-fz-mt-09-clutch-buzz-noise-vibrations-how-i-repair-it.49449/. Apparently, the rubber dampeners in the clutch basket can get worn out and cause some play and the symptoms sound exactly like mine. Gotta open up the to verify though.
  14. As a follow-up, the vibration came back 😆. I'll probably go check it out with a mechanic when I do my next service.
  15. Well, my earlier googling failed me as I just found out you could buy official manuals from https://www.yamahapubs.com/.
  16. @KrustyKush Thanks for that. I'm assuming that's coming from the service manual? The owners manual has a section about adjusting the handlebar position but then it says to contact your dealer to adjust it 🙄. I've looked online for a service manual and the only hits that come up are physical copies from China or a spanish digital version that a guy in Poland is selling on Ebay. Might take a chance on the spanish copy since it's only $12 and I figure I'll at least be able to make out the torque specs 😁.
  17. Noticed one of the 4 handlebar bolts on my 2021 Tracer 9 GT was coming undone. Does anyone know the torque spec for these bolts are?
  18. Well, I found out through Reddit that this happens when you're in the lower powered modes. Setting the Tracer onto drive mode 1 seemed to help immensely. The vibration doesn't go away but it is much less pronounced. Hope this helps out a future bike-chondriac!
  19. Hi Ya'll, I recently purchased a used 2021 Tracer 9 GT (< 4k miles) and am noticing an odd little issue with the bike. Every time that I take off from a stopped position, there is a slight vibration feeling whenever I release the clutch during take-off. It seems to happen right at or after the clutch hits the friction zone and there is this brief vibration that I can feel through the bike. I can't seem to replicate this any time other than during take off. It feels a bit off coming from my previous bike (Kawasaki Z650) so I'm wondering if anyone knows what might be causing this? The weird thing is that I recently rented a 2021 Yamaha XSR900, which exhibited the same behavior though to a lesser degree. Maybe this is a just a Yamaha thing that is benign?
  20. Thanks for the tips DavidS. My main concern is the plate installation as it seems like multiple pieces of the bike need to be taken off in order to leave enough room for a wrench to screw in the 3 mounting plate screws. As a newbie wrencher, the task seems intimidating but I'll see once the parts arrive.
  21. Same here. I don't know what it is with the T9GT but I just cannot seem to get a quick and instant take off. Clutch engagement feels very weak and then there's a weird vibration before fully releasing the clutch lever.
  22. @vic Thanks for sharing your experience, the bike is looking good! Would you be able to share a picture of the instructions if you have them by any chance? I just ordered the mounting plate for a Yamaha Tmax scooter, which supposedly fits a Tracer 9 GT but it would be nice to see what the official instructions look like and any torque specs if they are listed as well. From the videos I've seen on Youtube already, it does seem like a frustratingly complex process for something that should've been designed to take <5 minutes.
  23. @tclhb Greetings from a fellow OC-er! Thanks for the tip on Webike - still debating whether to pull the trigger but I'm a bit intimidated by the installation process especially as a newbie wrencher. I saw a Greek Youtuber's installation process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ujxcdzM3No), which involved taking off multiple plastics and overall it looked pretty complicated. Was your experience pretty much the same?
