  1. The install actually isn't too bad, the most difficult part for me was getting the wire "looped" correctly inside the new throttle housing. A word of caution, these grips get HOT... DO NOT set the heat level to 10. Try a mid range setting for lo-mid-hi of something like 3/5/7 to start and adjust up from there if needed. I have ridden in temps as low as 30F and have never needed higher that level 5. One other note, the stock handguards are useless at blocking wind on the back of your hands, personally I use hand shields from a DL-650, $60+s&h on Amazon. They offer complete protection from wind and rocks, but not intended for crash protection.
  2. I swear I'm not stalking you, @betoney But I have the identical question, as I'm also eyeing the R1 320mm rotor conversion. Those caliper spacers look nice... 12 mm I assume. May I ask where you got those, @ghostrider1127 ? No worries at all. Winter is down time for me and I am trying to get upgrades done now if possible. If this R1 rotor conversion is worth the effort its another excuse to go shopping! 8-)
  3. How do you like the R1 320mm brake conversion? It is the next mod I have planned but would like to hear real-world reviews on whether it is a significant upgrade.
  4. I bought the exact same flush mount signals and quickly realized the same thing, you cant see them, oncoming traffic will have no visual clue to your intentions. The stock signals went back on.
  5. I have to agree with you. Getting a seat custom made specifically for you completely changes your riding experience. If I ever get another bike, I will absolutely get another custom seat made.
  6. SoCal? Should be closer to 365. I have 330-340 good riding days up here in Oregon.@keithu You must be a rain rider. I am only 3 hours north of Albany and there is no way that we get close to 300 "good riding days" up here. I dont purposely ride in the rain and between November and April we get a LOT of rain.
  7. That's what I did too. I'm going to be out of town next week so I figured time to get 'er done!Since they have same day turnaround, depending on when you mail it out to them, you should have it waiting when you get back.
  8. My friend has the same screen on his FJ. I am the exact same dimensions as you and I really liked the screen.
  9. I changed the oil and filter last week when I installed the A/S clutch, today I flushed the coolant and brake fluid.
  10. Can you create the spacer with the correct lip and recess like the caliper mating surface? If it fits, sign me up. As far as bolts, I prefer socket head just like the stock bolts.
  11. Thanks, of course STG is out of stock on the spacers but as it will be a winter project I have time. Yeah, another Winter project for sure. My parts for the assist/slipper clutch just got delivered so I have that next on the to-do list after the holiday. Hopefully by the time I get the clutch installed, STG will have the spacers back in stock.
  12. I think you missed the previous 2 pages of this thread discussing larger R1 rotors, caliper spacers and longer caliper bolts. Bottom line, R1 rotors are 22mm larger, 11mm each side of the axle. The spacers move the caliper out 12mm.
  13. @2and3cylinders I was researching this some more and found a forum thread about Better Brakes that listed the caliper spacers as fitting an R6 - See here
  14. +1 on where to get the spacers, and is there another year besides the 2004-2006 R1 for rotors?? If you find a source for these spacers let me know. I was at my local Yamaha shop today talking to the lead mechanic, picking his brain about the assist/slipper clutch swap and he gave me a ton of pointers. We got to talking about brakes and I asked him about swapping the oversize rotors from the R1, he emphatically agreed that the difference in braking would be immediately noticeable. I checked ebay and found several sets from salvage companies, if I can find the correct spacers then I will get this going.
  15. Yikes, the Vesrah pads are expensive!! Twice the price of Galfer HH and EBC HH pads. Are they that much better than other premium pads to justify the cost?
  16. I cant say with 100% certainty, but I would imagine that if your current master cylinder interferes with the handguard, then the R1/R6 will as well. - Only a guess though as I took my handguards off as soon as I bought the bike.
  17. The '04-'06 R1 master cylinder (maybe R6 too??) is the Brembo model and my research tells me the bore is 16mm.
  18. +1 on where to get the spacers, and is there another year besides the 2004-2006 R1 for rotors?? I plan on installing Spiegler brake lines from STG (free shipping and they include brake fluid and cleaner) and have been running the Vesrah RJL front pads (HH+ versus OEM only GG friction rating). The RJL provided improved stopping power but IMO only SS lines and maybe the R6 17 mm master cylinder (what years will fit?) will improve power AND feel. 1. I'm not sure what year R6 MC will fit, my R1 MC is from an '06. Much better lever feel over stock. The banjo fitting is on the bottom vs. side fitting on stock MC. 2. Where did you purchase the Vesrah pads from? is HH+ too abrasive on the rotors vs HH? 3. I would be curious to hear your thoughts after fitting the Speigler lines, from what I have read, they completely bypass the rubber and hard lines on the bike. A brief summary after the install would be excellent.
  19. I have also considered upgrading to the HH pads. I already have an R1 master cylinder and I was considering getting a set of 320mm R1 rotors. I had that combo on my last bike and the one-finger braking was awesome. The rotors are pretty cheap on Ebay from a parted out bike... and its rainy winter season, I need to tweak or tinker on something.
  20. Resurrecting an old thread... does anyone know where these 12mm spacers can be purchased from? Thanks in advance.
  21. Mine is a '15 as well, I bought it as a left over less than a year ago. I assume that even though one year of its life was spent sitting in a crate, the coolant is still 2 years old and needs to be flushed regardless of mileage. (16k)
  22. Nothing beats a seat that is custom built for you. I had one built in September by Rich's Custom Seats in Kingston Washington. I have since put over 6,000 miles on it and LOVE it. I cant believe that I didn't consider it much sooner.
  23. What mileage are you at for new chain and sprockets? I'm at 16,000 miles in her first year and while the rear sprocket doesn't appear to have any hooking on any teeth, I haven't pulled the cover to check the front yet. Common sense tells me that the next few months of winter down time would be the perfect time for a replacement. I have read on here that replacing the brake lines is a complete pain in the @$$. Did you stay with stock pads or go to something more aggressive like an HH pad? For improved lever feel, I upgraded to an R1 master cylinder, not a Chinese knock-off, an actual parted out R1 on Ebay. 1 or 2 finger braking, always!
