  1. @estell I have the first edition of that book. If one were to move to the area looking for suggestions on "where to start", this book offers some great ideas. Highly recommended.
  2. Sorry for laughing, but when I read that I envisioned skeeter and bubba wrenching on "ol' blue", while its up on blocks in the front yard. Fixing their car-bu-ray-tor with bailing wire and fresh chewed bubba-licious bubble gum. Um - never mind... sometimes I just think funny thoughts.
  3. I can second this. Keyword is west. Eastern Oregon is seriously desolate. The S.E. part of the state is fairly desolate, but the N.E. part of the state has some truly phenomenal scenery and amazing riding. I spend a LOT of time riding that corner of the state. If you start in John Day, you will find great riding in every direction.
  4. If you can get away from the I-5 corridor (some of the most horrific traffic in the nation), there is truly some spectacular riding and jaw-dropping scenery in the Pacific Northwest - To include Washington, Oregon, Idaho as well as Canada.
  5. I hit 20K this morning while on a 2-Day road trip. I have had the bike almost a year and a half. In the first year of ownership I hit 16k, I hope to get close to 30k this year.
  6. I took a vacation day and went for a 2-Day, 800 mile road trip to the North Cascades Highway. Diablo Lake, 84 degrees. Just before heading over North Cascades Pass 20 minutes later I got stuck in a torrential down pour as I got near the summit at 5,500ft and the temperature had dropped from 84 to 46 degrees! Its all part of the adventure, the payoff was worth it. On the other side of the pass in Omak, it was 92 degrees!
  7. It’s a 2 amp fuse, if you tried to use an air compressor, I guarantee you blew the fuse. If using a compressor, connect it direct to the battery terminals.
  8. I highly recommend removing and greasing the swing arm pivot and linkage. I serviced mine at the one year mark (16k mileage) and they were in dire need of grease. Removing the swing arm might seem like a daunting task but it is very easy on this bike. I have done it twice and can now have the wheel and swing arm removed and replaced in about 30 minutes.
  9. MUCH better. I agree with @raggededge. Hold the front brake and press down as hard as you can and see how close they get to the fender.
  10. So, is the red dial at the top for rebound adjustment? If so, how is it accessed when the shock is mounted?
  11. The last week of June, a buddy and I are embarking on an 8-day ride to include a loop through Southern/Central Utah, Western Colorado and Northern New Mexico and Arizona. - Its going to be HOT! I already have vented gear, but that only does so much, I was thinking about buying an evaporative cooling vest for the trip. Has anyone used one? are there differences between brands? any hints or tips on using them efficiently/correctly? Thanks guys
  12. Since you asked... Honestly, I think the bar across the front end looks hideous. It looks completely out of place.
  13. The wheels look great, do you think the plasti-dip is durable enough to withstand a tire change or does it simply peel right off?
  14. @ridebmx. I think it looks fantastic, GREAT JOB, I would love to hear a bit more on the proceedure and products used. I have been looking for a relatively cheap and non-permanent option to change the color on mine.
  15. Im hoping the white robot suit is an optional accessory in the Yamaha catalog when the bike is released. 8-)
  16. I just checked the Yamaha website and my local Yamaha dealer is having a demo days in June. No Tracer or GT, no Niken either, - maybe next year. ** Friday - Saturday - TIME: 10:00AM to 5:00PM ** Come out and Demo any of these bikes: Venture, Eluder, Bolt FJR1300, Tenere MT-10, MT-09, MT-07 XSR900, XSR700, FJ-09 R6, R3
  17. Plus the beefed up frame which is unique only to this bike and the much wider cowling/ bodywork. Thats about what I was guesstimating. FJ +100 lbs.
  18. It sounds like you enjoy it every bit as much as I do. For only $230 and about an hour down time, it’s a very worthwhile improvement.
  19. You cant beat a free set of tires, especially the Angel GT's! Very Nice!
  20. I have great rain gear except the boots. I stayed dry minus the soaked feet. And first time riding in wet weather. It was interesting....Oh, I have rain gear as well, but I HATE riding in the rain. Limited visibility, limited stopping distance, limited traction, limited corner speed and lean angles... and then the bike is filthy covered in road wash and debris. I don’t commute, I ride only for fun. If it’s pouring rain, I’ll stay at home and watch Netflix.
  21. Well, what do you think? Curious to hear your opinion on the new forks.
  22. Betoney... Is there a confirmation as to why there are two diagnostic levels: 14 and 15? Redundant for safety, or different because there are two sensors in the APS sensor. I started at 14:17 and 15:16 And ended up at 14:14 and 15:12 I honestly have no idea why it’s set up the way that it is. You should notice a nice smooth transition during on/off throttle now
  23. The first thing I would do before the trip is get a revised clutch cable to replace your original, then I would mount some sort of off road tire. I have spoken to many who have made the trip to Alaska and rule #1 is to expect the unexpected, sudden crazy weather, poor condition roads or mud sections, stores without supplies/fuel etc. There are lots of great blogs with survival tips for those attempting this trip.
  24. I've always "offered" it (nee Advanced) but recommend is a different matter. Must have been a misunderstanding on my part when I ordered. I thought I got Advanced. Not a big deal, the forks work fantastic, I just thought that the lower bolt compression adjuster was the ONLY method available.
