  1. I agree and had a similar reaction when seeing this in the manual. I don't understand how the length could make a difference to the way the switch reacts. For that reason I have not even measured yet if I'm still within spec. I'm happy with the changed lever height and the QS works fine. Nevertheless, if I were having the OP's problems with the QS I would still (at least temporarily) set everything as Yamaha wants it before looking at other possible causes for the defect. To me that is the logical first step. Secondly there must be a reason for them to have those specs. And the reports on the usability of the QS are all over the map on this forum.   2. Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately the Bike Maintenance Lab app is not available on iOS. I was already using fuelly.com to track my mileage and had not noticed the option to add maintenance as well. I was looking for something more automated though if I could find it. I have a coding background so while looking into that excel sheet I discovered a more evolved version on a Honda forum. I will modify that for the Tracer and share it when I'm ready. It's real easy to enter data and it keeps track of the official yamaha schedule in combination with the previous maintenance to give exact times and ODO's where the next job is supposed to be done.
  3. I'm getting a ECU flash done. I've done my research and have settled on a Dutch tuner with a great reputation that uses Woolich software (which is supposed to be the best). I'm looking for smoother throttle control and am less interested in lifting the top speed limits or even adding HP. There are a lot of options in the flash so I figured I'd check with the community if there are any specific options that you would recommend to change, wished you had changed or the reverse; things you wished you had left alone. I would like to be able to activate the cruise control at any speed, also low ones. It's great to roll around a parking lot and focus an dipping deep and turning sharp at a set speed without having to hold the throttle. The tuner does not have it in his standard flash and wasn't sure if it could be done. If anyone has this in a Woolich flash please let me know so I can confirm that it is possible.

  5. 46 here. I've been riding for 9 years. Having at times experienced the life of a "rock star", I am already so lucky to have had my dream job but if I could have chosen another dream career it would have been rally pilot. So I made a very conscious decision when I was younger to wait until I was 40 to ride motorcycles because I have a sketchy history with cars and would probably have become a statistic. I just love to feel alive by feeling one with a fast moving machine. I am a lot more sensible now but that joy has never left me. I wonder if this is how many of us feel here. I cannot imagine a lot of people riding the Tracer easy and slow. πŸ˜€
  6. This is the first bike on which I do all servicing myself and I'm still looking for an efficient way to keep track of what I've done. A real book or an excel sheet are valid options but I've been messing with an app that also tells you about the next services etc. The app is called bikeminder (iOS) and has service schedules for all kinds of vehicles but unfortunately the Tracer is not in there and it's not really all that great. Does anyone know of an app or even web-based tool that contains the actual service schedule for our bikes? (2019 GT Europe) If not other tips are also welcome.

  8. The possibility to start the bike in A mode is on many lists as a good reason to get an ECU flash. My 2019 GT always starts up in A if that is where I left it. Is this where I find out that this ECU might have been messed with by a previous owner? Or is it just the newer models that can do this?

  10. Totally. I only talked to him for a few minutes so let's hope that he does sometimes also lets it rip under controlled circumstances. The North of Belgium is extremely densely populated though and city and village centers have 30 km/h speed limits with most of the roads around 50 or 70 and there's cars everywhere. I mostly ride for fun and know where I can let the CP3 breathe but I do understand that some people just use it as a mode of transportation and shift accordingly. And you can't blame an instructor for keeping to the speed limits. They can probably lose there job if they get multiple convictions for speeding. High RPM and hard acceleration always work well with the QS but there are ways to have fun with it in low speed situations as well. Riding with one hand for example. πŸ˜‰ "Slow and gentle" is not right. "Determined but unhurried" is better. I don't know, I should probably make a video as there is a lot of different ways to do this even though it's such a simple action.
  11. I put it higher and it seems to have made the QS better. Haven't measured it yet but also messed around with it some more during a spirited ride today and while it always has worked well on high RPM's for me, I can get pretty consistent good QS shifts anywhere now. Still working on 1st to 2nd. One thing to add, slow is not really the right word... It is slower than a clutch shift but It's more that I keep my toe up for a moment instead of immediately releasing the lever back down. The QS seems to like that on mine. YMMV.
  12. indeed but it's their job to teach the safest way possible to ride so I guess it's not that weird. this is really interesting. I had adjusted the height of the gear lever a few times and settled on 10 mm higher than stock. So according to this there is just a very limited range. I will check if I'm still in it. Let me know if it works. I used it the same as you before but now I can use it in city traffic as well if I want to.

  14. Interesting. What happens when you do it slow? I met this riding instructor that also owns a 2019 Tracer and he said he never shifts without QS, even from 1st. His "trick" was to always shift at 4000 RPM. Trying that and finding that it doesn't work for me caused me to experiment with other things and finding the slow QS works a lot better on lower revs. On high revs a firm/quick movement works well.
  15. I just found out that the quickshifter works a lot better for me if I push the gear lever up slowly. I'm used to shifting quickly without the QS and never tried to do it differently with the QS. It seems that the electronics need a little more time to unload the engine than I've been giving. I've been using it in balls to the wall acceleration but found that I could shift smoother without the QS. But it works great in all gears if I do it slower. Maybe this can help someone in the same situation.
  16. it is often reported to be louder in 3rd and 6th gear but I don't have that on my 2019 GT. I can hear the whine (like the reverse gear of a car) on all gears but it is not overly loud. On some days more than others though... It is my opinion that there is probably a big spectrum of how this sound manifests itself, but people often think that it's the same as on their bike. I have read reports of it being really annoying in 6th gear and people have sold their bikes because of it. I don't want to discourage you but I have never seen a solution and recently wrote a post about this which has a nice video explaining the triple whine in detail.

  18. Do you mean that small spring on the outside of the clutch case? Why specifically there? I have some ACF50 laying around but have not gotten around to using it. Figured it would be for next winter.
  19. Thank you, I did this today and it went fine. Didn't see a lower radiator bolt though? It's more like a hinge on mine so I just tipped it forward. I did take it apart twice because I couldn't believe that this was how it is supposed to be bolted back together (the offset on the left one) but it is also like that in the manual diagram. If anyone can confirm I can sleep easy. The throttle body sync seemed impossible at first as there was a lot of stuff in the way of the left vacuum plug. Access was blocked from all sides. This was not in @Wintersdark 's tutorial or any of the video's that I watched. I tried to get those small hoses off but they seemed glued on so I gave up, not wanting to risk tearing them. I finally unhooked the fuel line and that metal bracket instead and somehow managed to get the plug off and the hose on, still blind but at least with the space to just get some needle-nosed pliers in there. I used a size 8 spanner to get the plug back on.
  20. Easy as pie on the 2nd and 3rd but I spent an hour trying to get to the left rubber plug and had to give up. It's impossible without some very long very slim needle nose pliers and even then I don't see how I will be able to get the carb tool hose on, access is blocked from all sides. I again watched all video's I could find and it looks like my 2019 GT has different parts than yours. I suspect it could be a EU thing. I started to remove stuff that was in the way but the small rubber hoses seem glued to the connectors. I didn't dare pull any harder because they were stretching and seemed about to snap. No need for those metal fasteners, that is for sure. Tips are welcome (heat perhaps?) My plan for now is to disconnect that fuel line and remove the metal bracket tomorrow and hopefully that way I can get to it.

  22. Totally agree. I also owned a 5 series bmw and loved it but yes, what attracts me to bikes is also that sense of being one with the machine. Another benefit: with fine-tuned senses you can immediately pick up when something is not right. But then... see the OP. πŸ˜‰
  23. No doubt. But the opposite is also real. Some mechanics just assume that people are imagining things when they are not. This has been my experience at least. I agree. This should be the go-to advise for this complaint but it’s not often given. I just found this very informative video about the subject. It actually mentions what I suggested in the OP as well: Less oil might equal more whine. I can see the type of oil also being an influence.
