  1. This is interesting as I have the stock Tracer 9 screen and I am 5'9". I find that this screen gives me more wind protection than all the other screens I've used on several bikes. Almost all the wind noise is generated by my helmet, if I tilt my head down a bit the noise fades away. I have my screen in about the middle position which seems to work the best. I tried the MRA spoiler but it made a lot of buffeting in most positions. The best screen I had was on a Windjammer fairing and it was huge, sort of like a GoldWing.
  2. A few of us meet at the Starbucks during the week, usually Tuesdays or Wednesdays. We're mostly retired or own businesses that allow time away. I'm just north of you in Buena Park. It's no longer LSD but now JBPdS-LSD, I know it's weird but I can remember when it was Outer Drive before becoming LSD. I have a 2021 Tracer 9 GT
  3. Yep, it's the plains states, we get wind all the time.
  4. I got battered by crosswinds on I-10 in SCal on a HD Street Glide. The extra 250 pounds of bike helped keep the HOG centered but it was sketchy due to the bar mounted fairing (batwing). My 2012 FZ-1 was easily blown about by cross winds and you just get used to it and lean a bit into the wind. Come to think of it all my bikes acted the same in cross winds.
  5. I use Veridan moldable ear plugs and work better than any foamies. Just follow the instructions and enjoy your music without wind noise.
  6. A good modular helmet is the Nolan 100-5. It is ECE certified to ride in the Jet position (chin bar up and locked). You get minimum sail effect due to the elliptical mechanism that keeps the chin bar close to the shell. The ventilation is adequate. It is relatively quiet for a modular, quieter than my AGV full face. Two drawbacks are it's a bit heavy with the medium weighing in at 3.8 pounds and that you need to either cut the neck portion to fit a non-adhesive comm unit. The price is pretty good at around $400.
  7. This is David piping in. I have the 2021 Tracer 9 GT coming off a 2012 FZ-1 with 45,000 miles on it. So far I have 2,500 miles on it including a trip to the Winona area. I do live in Chicago along the lakefront. I really like the GT as it fits nicely with my riding style. I did spend a week and 1,000 miles on a 2019 Tracer 900 GT in Spain and France and liked it. The new one is a few ticks nicer in my opinion. The only add ons I'm looking for is the top case mount, Top case (39L), frame sliders, radiator shield. I replaced the horn already with a higher pitched one. The tires, Bridgestone T32, are excellent, the best I ever had as OEM. I like the stock screen as I am 5'9" and it gives me good wind coverage. What really sold me on the 2021 is the 6 axis IMU. Speaking of Highland House, I used to appear there occasionally from 1976 to 1979 when I had my Suzuki GS 750.
  8. I just did a 300 mile ride yesterday over varying roads from twisties (what little we have in northern Illinois) to towns and slab on my 2021 Tracer 9 GT. I have the stock screen in the high position and I'm 5'10". Only the top of my helmet has dead bugs on it and the visor remained clean, I guess that means the air flow works for me. I had no problems hearing my SENA at 80+mph. I am impressed.
  9. Don't worry so much about the top case, just pack it lightly. The side cases keep the weight low and are fine. I have ridden the Alps and the Pyrenees with Edelweiss Motorcycle tours and most of their rentals have all three cases except the mid size Ducatis. I rode the 2019 Tracer 900 GT in the Pyrenees and felt no ill effect from the top case.
  10. My only issues are a lack of accessories for the T9GT. Overall it is a good bike and an adequate replacement for my FZ-1 Gen2. I like the split gauges and use the right one to show items of interest but not crucial stuff. Though I do find the tach a bit difficult to read but I usually rev by sound anyway.
  11. The seat height in the low position is lower than on my old 2012 FZ1 but feels higher due to the seat width. I have a 32" inseam and can just flat foot both feet.
  12. Agreed. I like mine and the fact that you can "customize" the right screen and the two lines on the left is a good feature. I'm 5'9" and have no problem reading the gauges.
  13. OK time for me to pitch in after finishing a 900 mile ride in the twisties of western Wisconsin. Here are my observations: Windscreen; it works and really keeps the sound level down compared to my old Zero Gravity touring screen on my FZ1. I was able to clearly hear my SENA's music at a lower volume at 80mph. Buffeting is tolerable. The coverage is so good that I could ride with my Nolan's visor on the up position to cool down. The screen doesn't allow a lot of air to hit the helmet's vents. Seat: I'm 5'9" and can reach the ground with both feet but barely. It is a wide seat but very comfortable. QS: I have a hard time overcoming my muscle memory but when I did it is pure awesome compared to the 900 GT. Exhaust: I expected it to be quieter but it isn't very obtrusive and after a while got use to the droning. Fuel mileage: I truly got 49mpg or more, the average was 48.3mpg for the whole trip including a lot pof second gear twisty action. Overall I am very pleased with the 9 GT over my FZ1.
  14. I find that the screen is doing too good of a job as to what I am used to. In the lowest position I get very little ventilation in my helmet chin vent, the top vent works fine. I am 5'9" and the seat is in the low position. With my previous bike, FZ1 Gen2, and a Zero Gravity touring screen I could barely hear music at 70mph +, with the new bike I had to turn down the music due lack of wind noise at 80mph. Remember these are not Gold Wings or HD highway monsters.
  15. I have 340 miles on my T9GT and the brakes feel fine, not the greatest but OK, I did adjust the lever position which helped the feel.
  16. I have the new 2021 GT since Saturday and found the windscreen to be so much better than the one on my 2012 FZ1, now that screen sucked. After trying many other screens I settled on the Zero Gravity touring screen as the best compromise. That being said I found the screen on the T9GT so much better, quieter, and almost no buffeting. I'm 5"9" and 168 pounds.
  17. I told Jim that I ride at my own pace and on a new bike I take it easy as I learn how it handles. Besides I tend not to double or triple the posted speed limits and never ride very fast on unknown blind turns. Other than that, the T9GT handled exceptionally well. I usually ride on Michelin tires but these Bridgestone Battlax T32 tires are confidence inspiring. Do I miss my old FZ1, Nope.
  18. In my opinion, all motorcycles (and bicycles) are invisible to cagers regardless of lighting. Best is to assume you are invisible and ride accordingly. Yesterday was fun and I like this 9GT much more than my old FZ1. It's the same weight (according to Yamaha) but feels lighter. My only minor complaint is that the seat is too wide for my skinny butt. Dash visibility in direct sunlight leaves something to be desired even on max brightness. I couldn't really feel any difference from Ride Mode 1 or 2 but perhaps after "break in" and at higher rpms it should show some difference. The active suspension works rather well but it can't predict bumps ahead. The windscreen is nice and does give this 5'9" person wind protection at 80mph (bike is still in break in). I didn't expect decel popping on a stock exhaust but it is kind of mellow.
  19. There are 4 ride modes on the Tracer 9. 1 is the most performance, 2 is milder, 3 is even more mild and 4 is "rain" mode where about 50% of the engine power is cut off. This was the worst rain storm that I ever rode in. Key thing is to stay calm and not to twist the throttle too hard, leave at least 3 or 4 seconds between you and the vehicle in front. My Tourmaster Transition 4 jacket and Venture pants were overwhelmed by the intensity of the rain. The front wheel spray was enough to creep past my pants and fill up my A* boots (squish, squish). I was at the 2015 Indy MotoGP and the rain held off until the end of the race and then it came down hard. I was traveling back to Bloomington and taking the backroads but I did see a couple HDs that crashed, they tried to warn me but it seems that there was diesel fuel on the road washed up by the rain which caused them to lose control. Other than that it was uneventful.
  20. Picked up my Liquid Metal GT today in the Chicago area. Rode home in a pouring rain but the bike handled well. About the seat. it is very comfy but wide compared to my FZ1, I can still flat foot both legs but it's a bit of a stretch as I have a 30" inseam. They have a red one and after seeing both colors in the flesh I'm glad I got the Liq Met. It's snappier looking in my opinion than the red.
  21. Supposedly the one I bought is being shipped today to Chicago area. It's the Liquid Metal color.
  22. The dealer that I ordered the Tracer 9 GT from was very helpful and searched the internet for part I want to add. It was a pleasure to work with them, too bad they are like 30+ miles from home and don't have pick up and delivery (Grrr). They called me and said that the bike should arrive in May rather than July. Yay!!! Regardless I have an excellent mechanic only 5 miles away and accessible by public transportation.
  23. Soon I plan to be exchanging my 2012 FZ1 for a new 2021 Tracer 9 GT.
  24. I was informed yesterday that the 2021 Tracer 9 GT I ordered may be in in May rather than July. I will be trading in my FZ1 because the offer was close to what I could sell it for but without the hassles.
  25. I just placed a deposit on the new 2021 in Liquid Metal and was informed that the shop is expecting delivery in July of 2021, I'm either selling or trading in my 2012 FZ-1.
