Supporting Member texscottyd Posted March 22, 2023 Supporting Member Share Posted March 22, 2023 This seemed worthy of a share: I just picked up a pair of Michelin Road 5s for $320 plus tax. That works out to $353.17 all-in delivered to my door in Texas. EBay has a 20% off tire promotion (use the code TIRESMC23) on top of sales prices from certain vendors. I got them from the seller oemcycles that accepted the coupon code, and it nets back to $320.15 for the pair. They aren’t the newest Road 6, but for the money I couldn’t pass them up. Happy shopping! 5
Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted March 22, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 22, 2023 For some reason. They're taking the discount after the tax so it's higher Edit PayPal reversed it properly

Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted March 22, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 22, 2023 I still bought them but... Haven't had Michelin since the three maybe Have a fresh set of T32s to go on first depending on whose buns were baked soonest to rotate stock but this seems like a good idea. Going to the Bibendum dark side! Have another set of S22s too but for the VTR

I’ve run Pilot Road 4 (loved them), Road 5 (loved them a little more), and most recently Dunlop RoadSmart III (not a fan). I was planing to do the new Road 6 as the next set, but the $$$ is a bit eye-watering… for this price, another pair of Road 5s is an easy choice.
Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted March 23, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 23, 2023 Really is good considering how much rubber has gone up in just 16 months

OldBikers
Road 5s are really good overall street tire. Had them on my FZ-01, they were great in the rain. I had about 12K miles and there was still a little life left in them, however, with the way you ride and your size expect about 8K or so from them.

Yes I push it on average appreciably harder than you but I'm a relative light-weight! LOL

Supporting Member texscottyd Posted March 23, 2023 Author Supporting Member Share Posted March 23, 2023 For whatever it’s worth, I got 5,393 miles out of my last set of Road 5s, and 7,411 miles from the Pilot Road 4s before those. In both cases they were probably past the point of needing to be replaced… If I can get 5K+ miles from a sticky set of tires, I’m happy.

TomTracer
How old are those deal tires out of curiosity? When I had 4 bikes and changed tires myself I always had sets of tires on hand, stored in a cool dry basement. I never fretted over how old they were. Some of us are really anal about that, not me. I rode pretty aggressively back then, which is less the case as I fight to not let the old man in!
