What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?

Recommended Posts

What about when you get off the bike?  I use the side stand as I dismount then usually put it on the center stand.
I don't.  I always get off and hold the bars and front brake.  That said, it might be marginally safer to put the sidestand down before I hop off the seat.
But even then, the larger pad on the sidestand would be of little use to me.

This is what I do when putting my bike in the garage.  Amazing how much room a bike takes up when it's on its side stand.  Usually I use the sidestand out of habit from riding my 06 yamaha Vstar 650 but I am liking the center stand a little more every time I use it.

Brand new 2016 FJ09 - zero mileage
- Factory heated grips
- Grip Puppies (gonna love these things!)
- Custom Vibranator installation (machined to work with KTM handguards)
- FJR clutch side switchblock (for factory-like plug n'play throttle-by-wire Mccruise cruise control system)
- Eastern Beaver three (switched) circuit fuse panel (for Corbin seat heater, electrified tank bag, ?)
- Custom Black anodized rear foot pegs
- Custom Black anodized euro MT-09 Adventure rider foot pegs (similar to Super Tenere)
- Yamaha rear carrier
- Shad mounting plate (customized to bolt directly to plate-less Yamaha rear carrier)
- Shad 48L topcase (with backrest)
- T-Rex frame sliders (customized/machined gen2 FZ1 units from my old bike to fit the FJ09)
- Corbin seat (with customized harness to connect to Eastern Beaver accessory fuse panel)
- Motodynamic integrated tail light (removed stock fender and signals)
- Motodynamic front flush turn signals
- Givi D2122S windscreen
- "De-pinstriped" side graphics (ugly red pinstripes had to go!)
- Custom UV resistant, two step, bright dipped black re-anodized Ride-it CNC levers (have an extra set to sell)

That's a impressive list!  And to do all that with 0 miles - wow!  Just reassemble and leave it in your dining room as beautiful moto-art!  :D

Seriously though - since money appears to be no object on this , one of the best things you could do is pull the ECU when you get the tank off and ship it to 2WD.  It make the triple perfect to match the rest of your bike.

Already ahead of you. :) My ECU is on it's way to be flashed.

Brand new 2016 FJ09 - zero mileage I've been stripping the bike down over the last several days, and started some installs.  Exhaust is removed, as well as the suspension.  Mivv full system going in soon, and the front suspension was disassembled, 'de-golded', and is on it's way to Forks by Matt for some customization.

So far I've installed:

- Factory heated grips
- Grip Puppies (gonna love these things!)
- Custom Vibranator installation (machined to work with KTM handguards)
- FJR clutch side switchblock (for factory-like plug n'play throttle-by-wire Mccruise cruise control system)

- "De-pinstriped" side graphics (ugly red pinstripes had to go!)
- Custom UV resistant, two step, bright dipped black re-anodized Ride-it CNC levers (have an extra set to sell)

I'll start a build thread soon and detail most of the work.  Been too busy...

Mark.

Just a suggestion, unless you are stuck in the snow until middle of spring, why not ride it like it is so you will know how much you improved it? I actually love the gold and especially the red stripes with the black, but am curious what the fully murdered F-Jay will look like. YMMV. I assume you like all black?
Nice mods, but I don't think you will need the steering damper after the suspension mods unless you track it. That is the only place where mine needs it after my suspension mods, going down the front straight at big willow, speed shifting at 120mph. Slight wobble, but controllable if you lean forward and shift smooth.

We just had an ice storm this past week here in Toronto, so winter is still here unfortunately. I do this to all my bikes - research what the factory cheaped out on (or engineered poorly) and tackle it right away. I'm 230lbs and ride 2up often, so upgrading the suspension is a given. I like to hear my bike (and drivers on the road to hear it), so exhaust is a must. Etc. etc. There's nothing on my mod list that I wouldn't eventually want on it, so while it's apart I may as well avoid future downtime and do it all now. Maybe I'll briefly swap bikes with someone who left theirs stock at some point to see how it compares, but I don't really care how bad it is stock. I've read enough complaints on the forums to know what to address without even riding it. With some riding I'm sure there will be other things I'll want to improve.

The steering damper came off my old bike, and I like the added stability while slab riding, so I may as well install it. Although I refuse to pay $190 USD for the GPR FJ mounts, and will fabricate my own.

Yup, I love black bikes. I specifically bought a new 2010 FZ1 in 2011 for the black model, and ordered a black 2016 FJ before they were released. I thought the gold forks on the FZ1 would grow on me, but nope, my disdain only grew. Of all the mods so far, the black anodized fork tubes are my favourite.

I have the SW Motech foot enlarger on my FZ-07. I have the Adventuretech foot enlarger on my FJ-09.http://www.adventuretech.biz/yamaha-side-stand-foot.html

The motech foot has a very rough bottom and catches the floor easily. Moving your bike even slightly forward causes the kickstand to be pushed back. I came close to dropping the bike when this happened the first time. Now I am paranoid.
The adventuretech foot allows the foot to slide and behave just like a plain kickstand foot. Oh and it is almost $30 cheaper.
How thick are the feet under the side stand?  In upgrading the suspension I have raised my bike and it leans over farther on the side stand.  It would be nice to gain some stand length.  The Adventuretech site only has photos from the top.
Yeah the motech is at least twice as thick as the adventurtech. This helped a lot with my FZ-07 when I put an Ohlins on the back which raised the bike.

I was all set to buy one of these sidestand foot enlargers, as it seems like a no-brainer type of upgrade, and then I realized, I almost never use the sidestand.
I wonder how many FJ-09 riders use the centerstand, almost exclusively?  It pops up on the centerstand with ease, and it seems to be the safer, more convenient option to me.
The only time I use the center stand is when it is in the garage. Seems like most places I go is either uneven ground and or dirt which is not safe for the center stand, hence the foot enlarger.

I agree on the usefulness of the larger foot.  But I'm short enough that I have to use the side stand to dismount.

Rode out to Raccoon Lake here in central Indiana today. The temp hit a whopping 60 degrees today. So I decided to try out my new ProTaper EVO Adventure high bars and man what a nice difference on my bad shoulder. I was able to squeeze in a few hours before the hurt set in.

Glad to hear you're back riding. Been there, done that and it's a nice ride, especially for being March.

I use the center stand very often because that's how I need to park the bike. I don't have a lot of space in my apartment parking lot. The side stand is more stable though.
