Unused bolt holes?

on my 2018 tracer 900, the handle bar top clamps are longer to the front of the bike then they need to be. There is also a threaded bolt hole on each one..... 

What are these for. There must be a reason. 

Is this where the OEM yamaha GPS bracket mounts???

Honestly, I've no idea.  But they're actually quite useful for attaching controls/switches/mounts and such.

Someone once conjectured the same top clamps were used on other models for a specific purpose that escapes me now.  Beddy Bye time...

I had started to make a sat nav mount to fit to the holes in question but on measuring up I felt if would further restrict easy access to the ignition switch so abandoned the idea.

u can always flip it 180 deg around.

That's exactly what I did, I made a bracket for the power on LED for the MCCruise and another for the TPMS unit with rubber mount.
