  1. I'm looking at the pictures , I like the powder coated rims. But not painting the nose IMO makes the bike look cheap, mine is painted the same color as the tank and I like that look better. Same thing with the handgaurds , they should have painted them like my 16. But they painted the front fender and side panel where on my bike its not, which I never liked.
  2. It seems they put standard some of the things I paid for. If I remember right I paid $200 for heated grips, about $125 for kako throttle lock, seat about $200 and hard bags with the mounting bracket was $ 1000. Not sure if I would want a longer swingarm or a quickshifter. I guess a longer swingarm is better for highway riding . But back roads I'm not sure. How much more is the Tracer GT ?
  3. So what's the difference between a FJ-09 and a Tracer GT ?
  4. Still riding here in NY , my playground is 100- 150 miles north of NYC. It seems to be a fast fall, leaves seemed to have changed faster. I did about 300 miles sunday. It was about 45-50 degrees with the heated gear I had no problems. So no complaining yet !
  5. I use my Pitbull stand while the bike is on the center stand with no issues.
  6. When I was on the FZ1OA board we use to have a big rally every year down there. We stayed at Fontana Damn resort, was a great time. I think they still do it actually but the first few years there was 100 FZ1s all over the place, took ALOT of planning
  7. The best way to pick up the front end is a Pit bull front stand . It hooks in to the frame, I can take off the forks and tire no problem. I wouldn't mess with books and cinderblocks , but that's me
  8. This is part of the fun when I get a new bike , modding it to my taste. I see alot of guys putting pipes on and reflashing the ECU , I did the seat first (seat concepts) and second was the suspension . That Penske 8983 transformed the bike very nicely , I'm having a Penske 8975 built for my Suzuki from Taxxion .
  9. Took a ride out east to Montauk Point NY this summer
  10. I don't like to change the gearing at all!! Yea it might make the bike feel better down low but when you're in 5th and 6th , you might not like the change there. When I bought my Tuono the first owner lowered the gearing( I bought the bike with 900 miles.. killer deal). Yea the bike burst out of the hole nicely had great low end grunt but on the highway the bike felt like it was racing . The gas mileage really suffered, so I went back to stock and I loved it. Point of the story think about how the bike will change in ALL the gears when you change the gearing.
  11. Your thread touches me as I am a widower too. I lost my wife 11 years ago to breast cancer, I still miss her to this day... Sorry for your lost.
  12. 64 on the dragon is pretty fast for that road. The cop probably thought he was saving your life
  13. Well really it was yesterday, all I did was ride the hell out it. The FJ felt sooo good , I did about 500 miles all over farm country in NY state.
  14. I havn't done a thing to my FJ09 since I bought my new bike. I did get a new Tankbag for my birthday from my kids in april
  15. Is this handlebar recall a global thing, and if so are there VIN or engine numbers to look out for? I'm collecting my 2016 today and I wouldn't trust the dealership to identify and fix any recall issues before I take delivery! I really don't know if the handle bar recall is a global problem. I do know from your Vin # the dealer will know what recalls your bike needs..
  16. I called my dealer when I got my letter about the handle bar recall. I gave them my vin # and they said something about the cam chain. They fixed it no questions asked.
  17. Discussed this several times and if you weigh under 180 or so this mod costs about $10. Take the right fork leg off (loosen the top nut first...careful of the ABS sensor & ABS disc on the wheel). Unscrew cap and pour out somewhere between 220-250 cc's of the 5 wt fork oil (a Ratio-rite works perfect for this). Replace with the exact amount you removed with 2.5 wt oil. Snug the cap, slide the right fork back into the triples and snug it with the lower triple pinch bolt. This is a great time to raise the forks to put more weight on the front end. 5-6mm is a good compromise; use a business card with a marking on it so you can get both forks the exact height. Loosen the left top triple pinch bolt & spin the cap out til it's free. Add 15cc of fork oil to each fork leg (you can get a small graduated medicine device used for giving medicine to children for free at Walgreens/CVS, etc.)Tighten each fork cap, tighten the upper & lower pinch bolts (19 ft/lb upper, 17 ft/lb lower), slide fender into place but don't tighten bolts yet, install front wheel & torque axle but not pinch bolt, install brake calipers & torque to spec; install ABS sensor & cover. Put weight back on front wheel & bounce the front end up & down a few times using handlebars but DON'T apply the front brake. Tighten axle pinch bolt 17 ft/lb, tighten fender mounting bolts. Add 1-3 clicks of rebound and go ride. The lighter oil reduces the cheap/overly aggressive compression valving and the 15cc of oil added per for leg greatly reduces dive under braking without affecting overall ride quality. There is plenty of rebound, you don't have to worry. You could probably replace all 450+cc's of 5 wt in the right fork with 2.5 wt and still have plenty of rebound.Check your steering head bearing preload while the front wheel's off the ground. It should fall easily to either side with no drag or binding felt. Most appear to be coming from Yamaha over-tightened which drastically effects handling in a negative way! Thanks Bruce but I weighted 180 in high school , those days are over.
  18. I changed the rear shock ( Penske 8983) I had built for me at Traxxion, it works great, the bike feels nice and planted. Now I was wondering about the front end , it does have a stiff feel to it. Dare I say cheap feel to it. I would love to hear about some front end mods here ,I'm not sure I want to go the AK20 Route.. Maybe some members here have some options I don't know about ...
  19. I put tires on the bike last week and when I was at the dealer I asked about a ticking noise I have when the bike is cold.So he did a vin number check.. no recall . Then the dealer said it might be a Cam chain tensioner, he orded the part and they changed it in about a half hour. The mechanic held the old tensioner and it did move under pressure with his hand and he told me it shouldn't move as much as it did. Now when I start the bike up no ticking at all and it didn't cost me a penny.
  20. Changed the oil , washed it , did the chain and checked the tire pressure. Got her all ready for a ride upstate in Hudson Valley tomorrow
  21. What kind of heated grips are those, I got the Oxford from the dealer that is not intergrated like those.
  22. I went with Red since I already owned a grey-silver bike
