  1. I can't help you with the top box, but the Shad 3P mount should not interfere with the OEM top box rack. The Yamaha top box rack uses the grab rail mounting points, while the Shad side case mounts use the side case mounts.
  2. Not really. The factory adjuster blocks are made from case hardened swiss cheese. I know I'm only one of dozens of forum members here who've mangled the OEM blocks.
  3. Bump. Do the SW-Motech crash bars interfere with bodywork removal at all? I've about had it with the terrible Hepco-Becker bars on my FJ-09 and the SW-Motech bars are under consideration.
  4. I don't know what those are in piotrek's post, but IMO you're ready for the Gilles Tooling adjusters:
  5. Yeah it's a lot of documentation, but their docs are excellent. They are extremely detailed and accurate. I work on multi-million dollar industrial equipment and I wish our documentation was half as good as what you get from MCCruise.

    Signs of life

Nice pics. I used to ride that way periodically in the mid-90s when I commuted between Manteca and Moffett Field, but I don't recall ever seeing the doorway to Narnia.
  7. Oregon doesn't have as many tar snakes as other places, but in the winter our best roads get covered in a slurry of wet rotting leaves and pine needles. You can ride in the tire tracks cleared by cars and trucks, but if your motorcycle gets onto the slimy morass in a curve it's AMF.
  8. Yeah, we watched part of the first quarter, got bored, and switched on a movie instead.
  9. I don't want to violate the NFL's trademark. I believe "the big game" is also legally acceptable nomenclature.
  10. I'm Mel Brooks in that clip.
  11. I always have enough fuel.
  12. Exactly. There's a superb owl thing going on, stores are crazy.
  13. My wife asked me to run to the grocery store for some cheese, tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, and green peppers. Being the dutiful spouse I am always happy to oblige. And since the Day Rides forum has been so dead lately I thought I'd snap a couple of photos on my way to the store. Here you go:
  14. I've rented a bike on a work trip to LA, but not San Diego. I think I've been to RB ~12 times over the last ten years, but only once have I been there over a weekend where a bike rental might be worthwhile. And in that case (January last year) my wife flew down for the weekend so we could celebrate our anniversary and do touristy stuff. The last time we were in San Diego together was 30 years prior and she was picking me up from a ship at North Island.
  15. I frequently travel to Rancho Bernardo for work, but unfortunately I'm always in a rental car. One of these days I want to bring the bike down. Lovely area!
  16. Looks like a great trip! If you have to make a wrong turn somewhere, accidentally riding up CA-108 is not a bad place to do it.
  17. I took a quick ride to test my new Sena 5s. I had an SMH5 that died just out of warranty, and that left a sour taste for the brand. But the guy at my local shop talked me into it. I took a 10 mile ride around the periphery of town on some farm roads. The 5s HD speakers are a massive improvement. It also helps that my new Shoei Neotec 2 is a lot quieter than my previous Scorpion Exo-GT3000. The SMH5 speakers were virtually useless above 60 mph, but the 5s was clear up to 85 mph, even at half volume. The FM tuner is nice, too. I was just going to fill a growler after a day of yard work, but the Sena test was a good excuse to take the scenic route.
  18. You're probably better off with the utility trailer anyway. I rented a U-Haul motorcycle trailer once and it was awful to tow. I pulled it behind a Nissan Maxima. The trailer was terribly short and basically invisible if it was empty, making it extremely difficult to back up. If you get one of the U-Haul utility trailers with built-in ramp it's very easy to load and tow. I loaded one of these with a K100RS and a bunch of household goods, and pulled it 500 miles behind an 80hp Geo Tracker with no trouble.
  19. I should, but I already had a great NYE ride. I really need to finish excavating for my new patio project. And the dog will need a bath.
  20. I had a perfect little ride up through Oregon's wine and hops country today, and met @huck and @Salish900 at See See for a nice chat and some coffee. It was a great day for a ride.
  21. My son really wanted to get into JET when he graduated, but he ended going into Teach for America instead. So he spent a couple of years as a middle school teacher in Memphis; that's almost as nice as Japan, right? 🤔
  22. Too bad, next time! I might have a work assignment in France this year if the EU ever allows us in. I've never been to France so I really hope it works out.
  23. Bump. We're officially On for this Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 12:00 noon. Location: See See Newberg 101 East 1st St. Newberg, OR 97124 The weather forecast says there's a 50% chance of rain, but temps will be in the mid to upper 40s so there's no chance of ice. Put on your rain gear and meet up with some forum members to send this godforsaken year off in style.
