  1. That's a fact. All my aux fuel plumbing had to be routed externally, there simply weren't any holes under the seat big enough to shove a 3/8" fuel line through. The plumbing is well protected by the luggage frame, but still not beautiful. For wiring I ended up routing a lot of stuff under the long low panels on the side of the tank.
  2. Clean install, as always. I don't know exactly how the seats sit on the Gen 2 Tracer, but on the Gen 1 FJ-09 the aft zip tie in this photo is real close to where the pillion seat sits on the frame. Anyone else reading this should pay heed to where the seat bumpers sit to make sure they don't pinch any wires or zip ties.
  3. Intrigued. Can you easily see the mirrors in your peripheral vision, or do you have to do a more purposeful glance? I have the same Barkbuster guards so it would be easy for me to install the same mirrors.
  4. They don't have the spring I want in stock (270-290#) so it has to be ordered. The springs are lovingly formed into the proper shape by buxom maidens working in a small cottage in rural Sweden. Such things cannot be hurried.
  5. Nice. Looks like PNW somewhere? With temps in the 70s here in Oregon I had to leave work early this afternoon for an "appointment" with my FJ-09, too. It was an excellent therapy session.
  6. Unfortunately you're probably stuck with wearing boots that aren't motorcycle specific, such as Red Wings. My son wears 17 4E and footwear is always a problem. He was a soccer player in HS and from age 12-17 his shoe size kept up with his age. Soccer cleats are simply not made above size 15, so when he hit 16 he started wearing football cleats. He wears Red Wings for work (plumber) so I know they're available in larger sizes. It looks like Danners are also available up to size 16.
  7. Update: Something I don't like about this Neotec 2 is that the chin bar is somewhat difficult to latch closed. I find that I really have to slam it closed pretty hard or else it doesn't latch closed. With my old Scorpion and HJC modulars the chin bar latched closed with a relatively soft touch. Anyone else notice this? It actually seems to be getting worse on mine and I'm considering a warranty claim.
  8. I ordered it with the remote preload adjuster. Unfortunately they had to custom order my spring so the shock ETA is June.
  9. The main thing you'll notice if the TBs are out of sync is more vibration, especially in the handlebars. Since you just got the bike you probably don't have a good frame of reference for what's smooth and what isn't, but this is a good clue in the future. I think the factory schedule calls for a TB sync at the first service in the US and Canada, but it's generally not necessary at that point. I'm sure they put it in there as a revenue opportunity for their dealer network. Notice that it's not called for in Europe, even though it's exactly the same bike.
  10. I installed SW Motech crash guards, to replace the terrible Hepco-Becker guards I had before. I can actually get the bodywork off with these in place, so maybe I'll stop bitching about the fairing puzzle quite so much. Bonus: It should be a little easier to attach accessories to these. Did I mention the Hepco-Becker guards suck? Don't buy them.
  11. Interesting to see how much license fees vary by state, province, and country. Who knew Mississippi was more expensive than Belgium?
  12. I'm not the OP, but the Iron Butt Association Archive of Wisdom is a wealth of excellent information: IBA - World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders The Iron Butt Association is dedicated to safe, long-distance... One of my personal favorites is #16: "After getting gasoline (a mini rest-stop in itself), it takes just as long to suit-up to ride across the street to eat as it does to ride twenty miles down the road and then eat. The result is two mini rest-stops for the price of one." I follow this practice whether the total ride is 200 miles or 2000. It works wonders at managing fatigue.
  13. Congratulations! It looks like you did a loop of the North Island, I imagine it was a beautiful ride.
  14. I renewed my registration today, $78 for two years, which means I'm coming up on six years of FJ-09 ownership. I know this may seem cheap to some of you, but it wasn't all that long ago it was just $12 for two years! If only my salary had increased at that pace during the last 20 years.
  15. Yep, anti-seize should do it. The copper becomes the cathode and protects the steel axle from galvanic corrosion. Anyone who gets the titanium axle nut will want to be equally diligent with the anti-seize compound.
  16. No sign of corrosion on the axle? Titanium is more anodic than any of the alloys typically used in an axle, so galvanic corrosion of the axle might occur.
  17. The Gilles adjuster isn't terribly expensive, $101 here: Gilles AXB Chain Adjuster for the Yamaha FZ-09/MT-09, FJ-09 Tracer 900, XSR900, FJ-07 Tracer 700, and Tenere 700 Gilles AXB Chain Adjuster for the Yamaha FZ-09/MT-09, FJ-09... This is way cheaper than the Lightech adjusters, and it can't fail in the way that Lightech and the various Chinesium knockoffs are prone to do. The Gilles adjuster is quality kit, and easy to adjust. All I'm lacking now is that fancy titanium axle nut. 😁
  18. I doubt there would be any measurable improvement to air quality achieved by emissions testing for motorcycles. Motorcycles account for about 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the USA. I heard Pennsylvania was actually considered dropping emissions testing for cars because the failure rate on modern cars is so low that the expense and inconvenience to car owners wasn't justified. Unfortunately, once a state has emissions or safety inspection laws in place it's nearly impossible to get rid of them. Inspection stations are usually private repair shops, and they lobby hard to keep these cash cow laws in place. Furthermore, if the auto industry shifts to electric as anticipated, the whole concept of emissions testing will be obsolete in ~20 years.
  19. I was going to say I always dismount as soon as I pull over. I keep my registration and insurance card under the seat so I'd need to get off the bike anyway. But then it occurred to me I haven't been pulled over on a motorcycle in almost 20 years now. Clean livin', I guess. 🤔 I shouldn't have said anything, now I'm sure to get pulled over the next time I ride.
  20. I plugged it into the TB sync test port on the left side throttle body. There's a little rubber cap that you should remove and save in case you ever decide to de-install the V System. This spot was recommended for the FJ-09 on ScottOiler's website, and I expect the Tracer should be exactly the same.
  21. A custom seat was one of the first mods I made to my FJ-09. I had Mr. Ed's build me a seat, mainly because the shop is less than a mile from my house. It's still by far the best mod I've done. If you find the Comfort seat isn't good enough, I'd re-sell it and have custom seats made using the stock pans.
  22. The more important question is why would I want to? 😆 In any case, I think I've come back from the edge of the cliff and will probably keep the FJ-09 for a couple more years. It's dialed in and does what I want.
  23. I'm about to pull the trigger on an Öhlins STX46 shock. With gear I weigh 250-260lbs, so it would seem logical to order one for 250-270lbs. But I always have my saddlebags mounted on the bike, and my aux fuel system adds 30lbs to the rear of the bike when full. So I'm wondering if I should order a shock for 270-290lbs. Thoughts? I'm somewhat ignorant when it comes to suspension setup, I just know when it feels right and when it doesn't. gh
  24. I used to scrape the OEM pegs pretty regularly, until I switched to FJR pegs with shorter feelers. I haven't touched those down yet and probably never will.
  25. Not a bad thought, but I'm already one click from max at both ends. My fat ass was already grinding the centerstand with anything less. Maybe this is the final motivation I need to invest in some Swedish evening accessories.
