Since you are fond of 30mm internal diameter, check also bitubo ech229 pressurized cartridges.  They say are superior of ohlins nix30.

For ohlins nix30  keep in mind that the newer model fks504 is inferior than fgk237 in some internal parts and the country of manufacturing,  at least this info we have from local ohlins and yamaha.

    Thanks for your input...

The FGK 237 is discontinued unfortunately... I can't seem to find the bitubo ech229's you speak of.

EDIT: found the bitubo's. Pretty good price.... no service locations in the US that I could see.

When mine lost coolant it was a tiny hole in the hard pipes on the oil cooler. Thankfully for you it is very rare to fail there, but worth a check.

I was just reading about corrosion on the oil cooler causing them to fail and thought of this thread.  Hopefully it's not that.

Just as a point of reference, my '15 still has the original battery and starts instantly hot or cold.  I have never had to 'crank' the motor to get it to start.  If I am not going to be riding for several weeks or prolonged winter break then it has the battery tender attached.

Mine acts the same except that I am on my 2nd battery.

The important thing when getting a shock built is honest communication with the builder so they know exactly how you will be using it and can spring and valve it accordingly.  Buying a prebuilt off the shelf shock like through Revzilla will definitely be an improvement but will have a generic (although probably very good) shim stack vs an 'exact' shim stack tailored to your needs.

For the price, the Ohlins sounds like a great deal.  My brother has that same shock on his Honda 919 and it is awesome!  Do you already have fork cartridges?

I currently have some intermediate cartridges from Matt but plan on getting some Ohlins NIX-30 cartridges.

  5. Matt (forks by matt) says the Nitron is a better unit for the cost compared to the Ohlins... here's what I'm weighing. Nitron NTR1 $625, YA535 $825, NTR2 $950, NTR2 with remote preload $1175.

I'm leaning toward the YA535, due to independent rebound and compression adjustment, with remote preload. NTR1 has rebound and compression combined, NTR2 has them independent but costs extra to add remote preload.. I'm unsure if remote preload can be added to the NTR1.

    before swapping to ohlins ya535 (S46HR1C1S), I was running a nitron NTR-R3.

You still around @kemmotar? I'm curious why you swapped from the NTR-R3 to the YA535?  Looking at a YA-535 or R2 so would love your input as I am unable to find any true comparison between the two shocks.

    05/06/20 update

Installed a new sensor, very easy to do!  The check engine light is now off and so is the TC light.  HOWEVER the ABS light is still on without the check engine light and the speedo is wildly off.

ABS light will remain illuminated after starting the bike until the motorcycle is traveling at a certain speed (can't remember if its 5mph or 10mph).  This isn't what your experiencing is it?

I assume you have taken the bike out and got it up to speed since you are stating thst the speedo is wrong... in that case I'm not sure. Great input, I know....

  8. @wordsmith We would love to welcome you back to the Tracer fold... I am curious though what is making you ponder a switch back to the Tracer (again) since you recently purchased that R nineT.

As far as lowering the Tracer. The Cheapest route would be lower links (dog bone) and moving the forks in the tree concurrently.

Sounds like you are aware of the options for shocks. Perhaps the shop that fitted you k-tech knows of some options...

Installed a set, front and rear, of 12oClockLabs Programmable Advanced Animated Turn Signals. Boy are these things cool! While I was at it, installed a Blaster-X brake light, but chose NOT to integrate the turn signals into it. And if that wasn't enough, the Madstad and Engage tank bag came in the mail today as well. It was like Christmas! Now I'm just waiting on the GPS mount.

What's that little rear engine hot rod you got there?

You can buy the parts to convert one but the "touring Edition" model itself is only available in Europe as is the SP model.

Still, I don't see how they can call it a Touring Edition with a straight face when it gets such horrible fuel economy.

Agreed... I've been on rides with some MT-10s and they literally stop for gas every 75 to 100 miles (obviously the tank goes a little further).
