  1. Looks like a lovely bike but I wonder if it'll have the same problem as the Ninja 1000SX in that insurance companies will treat it as a litre bike: the insurance was something like $1100/year with my $300K limits and comprehensive + collision. I pay $260/year for the same insurance on the '21 T9GT. Also I've come to really love the centre stand and the versatility of the CP3 engine. I don't believe the Ninja 1000SX can take a center stand as it lacks any mounting points. I really hope the Suzuki will work with insurance companies to have the S1000GT properly classified; super interested in if it'll take a centre stand.
  2. Ok, so I whipped out my service manual for the 2015 model and it appears you are right and I shouldn't listen to random internet people who probably spend more time on forums arguing about oil weights than actually riding or working on their bikes. That's a statement I take issue with though, Victory motorcycles past after 2010 used helical cut gears as well as Indian motorcycles. Harley Davidson has used helical cut gears since the introduction of the 6-speed Twin-cam 96.
  3. I definitely had gear whine on my 2015 in 6th gear, IIRC it is the only straight cut gear on the bike. 1-5 are slanted. I will say I think it got better over time as I owned the bike.
  4. I have their Wave boots that are now discontinued. I also have a pair of the Forma Adventure Low Boots; I believe the tall versions are the best selling moto boot in the world. They get much less use than my Stylmartins as they are much more technical, but they are great at what they are made for.
  5. I'm a big fan of Stylmartin's catalogue, I own a pair of the their Wave boots and is one of the few products I own that I have nothing bad to say about. Break in was also surprisingly short for how rigid they are.
  6. Sorry for disappearing. Started a new position and have been traveling for work so haven't had a chance to get much time with the Yamaha touring windscreen until recently. In my opinion it's a straight up winter/cold season windscreen only. The widest part of the windscreen by a large margin is the middle as it spans outward, and the bottom is roughly 2-3x wider than stock. It lines up with the handguards well and zero air hits me. I was wearing a mesh jacket and was roasting in 80F even at highway speeds. Definitely will be on my bike from November to March, otherwise stock + $20 eBay spoiler is still king.
  7. With the global silicon shortage and the '21 model being the major revision I doubt anything is going to change with that requires electronic hardware components. Probably different colors/paint. If anything I bet a software update such as allowing inverting of the display colors or something along those lines as a small but meaningful improvement.
  8. My 2nd bike was an NC700X, it was not "exciting" but I miss averaging 81MPG and the frunk was infinitely useful. Rode it from NW Ohio to NC a couple of times and it never missed a beat. I do hope that the tank under the seat becomes a more common trend so the front space can be used for other things like storage. I think the Indian FTR1200 has an under-seat gas tank too? Frunks are awesome!
  9. Yes, TCS2 cuts power which feels like a flat spot under hard acceleration. TCS1 will allow you to give it the beans without interference. No vibrations like you're describing. Did you do an oil change at 600mi?
  10. The OEM touring windscreen for the 900 and the 9 GT are different part #s and have different measurements, probably to accommodate the different handguards. Not a big difference, but the decreased width of the Tracer 9 part is probably so the handguards clear at full steering lock. Calling in and ordering it from the dealer saved me some money over buying online; $176 and some change after tax. I will post my impressions once received.
  11. I installed mine today: what a garbage product. Applied the large left-screen piece and it was nothing but air bubbles, and the adhesive is so strong that it's impossible to adjust after application and trying to rub the bubbles out just creates a permanent wrinkle. Decided to install the smaller trim pieces and see what the results would be; same. Then I read the instructions... wet install with a soap solution. Oh. Made myself a 50/50 Simple Green & water solution, ripped off the misapplied set, cleaned surface, sprayed solution, applied new set per the instructions exactly. Perfection. Didn't think I was going to get humbled by a screen protector install on a Saturday 🙃 even worse looking back to see that @rlambke19 mentioned doing a wet install on a post that I missed in this thread. The small piece(s) that go above the main displays that show neutral lights and cruise control are really hard to get the air/water bubbles out due to limited space. The plastic is also really soft, it reminds me of (and probably is) the old style plastic self-healing screen protectors for phones. Solid product, 9.5/10.
  12. Thanks! I had read through that earlier in the week and most of the discussion revolves around adding an actual lock to the bike either on the footpeg bolts, handlebar, or license plate bracket. It is a wonderful resource for someone who is interested in that. There was one person who got the Helmetlok carabiner which is where I got the idea from. I'm more interested in a separate security cable -or- chain + lock for the little bit of extra versatility. I'll probably end up doing the bike attachment at a later date though; at which point hopefully Yamaha will have an OEM part that can be rekeyed to the ignition
  13. 2021 T9GT doesn't come with a helmet lock so I'm in the market for one, I'm leaning towards: https://amzn.to/3yYoVsO I dig the rubber tubing and 4 digit combination, most locks only have 3. It also looks like it should have enough cable to run through my jacket sleeve and helmet at the same time to lock both to the bike. I could also just buy the lock on its own and spring for a thicker cable. Of course there's also the idea of buying a security cable and generic rubberized padlock so I'm not fiddling with a combination at night. Does anyone have suggestions or anecdotes?
  14. EarPeace, they also filter out specific frequencies based on the cores/filters that you insert. I run them with the medium insert and can still hear people talking just fine. The double-flange works best for me in regards to comfort; can wear all day. This is going to be a very subjective thing: I tried three-flanged designs and they hurt bad. Foam tips work well for me for about 1.5hrs then they get a hotspot.
  15. I use this screen spoiler from eBay and it helps a lot with turbulence, adjust for your riding posture. I'm 180cm (almost 5'11) and it helps a lot. It was even better than the Puig touring screen. SW-Motech has a set of sliders for the bike and a rear luggage rack. Givi is still in "article in manufacturing" status for most things. Shad also has their 3P side case mounts and rear rack available. Check those out if you don't wanna wait for OEM stuff.
  16. Well I did link the Canadian site as the US site didn't have the model up yet, US page uses imperial: https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/motorcycles/sportster-s.html
  17. It reminds me of an anime bike with those chonky tires, not a bad thing. I do dig the bronze cylinder heads!
  18. 2021 Sportster S | Harley-Davidson Canada $17,999 USD MSRP for a bike that doesn't have passenger room or luggage capability, single disc brake, 11.8L fuel tank (3 Gal), and large tires. Also is reportedly down approx 30HP from the Pan-America. I like Harleys for the most part, had an '84 FXR that was an absolute joy to ride. Done most of my overseas touring on a '06 Fat Boy when I visit family as that's the second bike in their garage. But I think this needed to be around the $12K mark IMO; I'm not sure who this bike is for? It's up on price and down on features, the Indian Scout starts at $11,899 too. So $4K-5K for cruise control and a fancy screen?
  19. He's making a joke that he's combining 1L of dino-oil with 2L of full synthetic shown in picture which comes out to be "semi-synthetic".
  20. Holy hell, anecdotally I've always thought that Maxima's SynBlend ran the best in my 2015 FJ09 and I just blew it off as me being crazy, thank you for the vindication. Maybe I'll try MOTUL's 5100 semi-synth next change for farts and giggles. Not sure about "normal" full synthetics but I've noticed the CP3 absolutely shreds 100% ester based oils: I've tried 2 MOTUL oils (7100 & 300v), and Maxima's Extra4 and it all of them have performed beautifully but then sheared down a rating within 1000mi. I know the 300v & Extra4 are all advertised as racing oils and are meant to be ran hard at the track then changed out, so I suppose they're doing what they're designed for; so I think there's some truth in your "just another thing from racing world" speculation.
  21. The more I read about other peoples' experience with the T9GT the more I'm convinced the bike was made for people 5'9" and shorter I think the stock windscreen sucks, yet people here are posting that it's wonderful and mentioning they're between 5'7" and 5'9". I think the gauges are hard to use because I have to look down to see them, and again people who are 5'9" or shorter are saying they're great. I'm closer to 5'11" than I am 5'10"; 180cm. It's crazy how different the experience is on the same bike. Next big advance in motorcycle technology: tiltable/adjustable gauges?
  22. The gauges are very down low and at a weird angle; I have to take my eyes off the road to look at it. It suffers from glare a lot more than the old FJ09 screen and isn't as bright and mines turned up to the max. The font is very legible and clean though.
  23. I fit the PUIG touring windscreen for the '18-20 900 GT models on my T9GT today; the handguards hit at full lock when its at the uppermost position, but just barely. Could just shave like 5mm off the sides with a Dremel and it'd be ok. Did a quick 40mi loop and I think I prefer stock + eBay spoiler so I'll be returning the PUIG. The PUIG is more effective at diverting wind away and makes the entire ride more quiet but I seem to get a concentrated wind blast right on my forehead, I think it's the "v" shape of the top edge of the screen. It's a shame because the PUIG on my '15 FJ09 was perfect and the company has great service. The eBay spoiler has got to be the best money I've ever spent on a motorcycle, it's wonderfully effective and I've just carried it over from bike to bike.
  24. It's from the organization that regulates and oversees the implementation of the JASO standard for motorcycles: JALOS (Japan Lubricating Oil Society). The link I provided is a direct link to the organization's list of JASO MA, MB, and MA2 filed oils from their own website. The list is published on the first of each month. The disconnect here is oil manufacturers claiming their oil is JASO MA/MA2 rated but not actually filing and submitting registration to JALOS and letting them conduct their tests. Only oil that has proven to meet JASO specs can have the JASO box on the bottle with the registration # so that you can look it up and its specs. See example from a bottle from an oil that is actually on the official list - in this case Motul: The picture above is out of date (T903:2011) as JALOS updates the spec every 5 years to remain up-to-date with motorcycle tech so we are currently on T903:2021. But you can look up this exact oil on Motul's website and check the technical data sheet to see that it is currently registered as M033MOT165 that appears on the JALOS list which is recent as of July 1st 2021. It is on line 670. I'm not saying oils like Rotella aren't formulated to JASO specs and meet the requirements, but we don't actually know that they meet JASO MA specs; we can only take Shell's word that they are testing to ensure performance to spec. Shell has other oils on the list: so either they haven't submitted Rotella since the last spec update, or they did and it didn't pass. I like Rotella T6 myself and have used it every winter for the past 3 bikes I've owned, but I question the ethics of oil manufacturers being able to list their product as meeting a spec when they won't even submit their oil to the governing body of the said spec to guarantee that it in fact... meets the spec. Here's a good article that can explain with more details if interested. On another note it looks like Castrol submitted a bunch of their oils to JALOS last month, as of June they only had 1 oil on the list and it looks like they now have 9.
