  1. Bone stock 2016 FJ09. Except for the custom saddle, heated hand grips, electric cruiser control, GPS, Madstad shield, Shad cases, Denali highway lights, case guard, forward foot pegs, lowering link, rebuilt front suspension, customized rear lights, Delkevic exhaust, K&N air filter, Barkbuster hand guards, Rizoma handlebars with Helibars set backs BMW style hplug in for my electric vest, dual USB ports, ram mounts for my phone, GPS, camera and countdown timer, magnetic Tank bag, hi-way blaster horn, Woodcrafters front axle and rear sliders, Custom hydration system. 1.6 bar radiator cap. Retro-reflective strips everywhere! Extra rear and brake lights. 17/43 gearing with gold DID X-Chain. Mirror extenders and DRL's. Next is a auxiliary fuel cell. I just haven't got up the nerve to drill a bulkhead hole in my fuel tank. But I will before my next IBA run. Looking at a SS3000 or SS4000 and maybe a SS5000 if the motorcycle Gods are favorable to me.
  2. Been riding since 1977. Been Teaching MC Safety for 15 years. I commute daily and still do IBA rides. Finished a SS2000 Gold and a BBG1500 in State Montana ride this summer. Would have done a SS3000 Gold to but the radiator cap failed on me and the bike was running way too hot for comfort. I plan on riding and teaching as long as possible. Don't ride as fast as I use to but ride smarter. I hope to be able to stay two up well into my late 70's and maybe 80's. But we'll see. Theres still a lot of riding to do and I'm still planning on IBA rides every year. Next one will be a SS3000 or 4000 or even a 5000 if I feel good enough after the first 3000 miles in three days.
  3. The more conspicuous you can make yourself the better you will be. The idea is to be seen. I bought a used pair of fronts (yes the pumpkins) and swapped them with the rears so I have a running light and a turn signal in the back as well as the front. Just jumped the third rail (wire) to the front turn signals. Simple as hell and makes for a better rear end presence. Also have a cheap Ebay LED running and brake light on the edge of my Shad tail truck mount AND a small set of hyper lights for brakes. AND on top of all that extra retroreflective peel and sticks on my saddle bags and various other locations on the bike.
  4. I never use heavy gear oil. Way too messy. As the others said replace the chain and sprockets with a new sprocket nut as well. Once the front is off throughly clean the area to see if there is a leak. I suspect not. I've been using this stuff for years. Clear and clean. https://www.amazon.com/DuPont-Teflon-Chain-Saver-Self-Cleaning-Lubricant/dp/B001B0VDC2?th=1
  5. It doesn’t sound like a Honda! 🤣 no db reads yet.
  6. I started with a 9” full system because it looked badass. It was Badass loud! Way too freaking loud! Even with ear plugs it was annoyingly loud. The 14” can is still badass looking, has a really nice authoritative sound and has reduced both weight and more importantly the heat that was killing me. If anyone wants a cheap 9” can I’ve got one!
  7. That's certainly not a factory hose clamp you have there, Replace the fluid, hoses AND the cap as well.
  8. Ok, who the heck here uses mode "B" and why? There than the very first day of riding I do not.
  9. Most of my Exhaust clearances where .10 , .12 at 20k. Don't wait for 26K. In a word. BAD.
  10. I seriously doubt you skipped a tooth if as you say the bike is running "fine". With that said when you do your valve adjust it is a simple thing to check.
  11. I lowered mine and then lowered the front into the triple tree 1/2”. It’s fine. Yes you are closer to the ground in corners. Yes it is a bit more difficult to center stand. But I can flat foot it at stops and to me that’s worth any trade off in clearance.
  12. There is an option for the14”. You can always call them directly as well
  13. Replaced the stock with a 14” Delkevic. Couldn’t be happier.
  14. Did my valve check and adjust at 24k. Probably too long await as all exhaust valve shims needed to be swapped out and only 1 intake was on the border. Replaced all at max clearance allowable. I’ll check/adjust at 40k the next time.
  15. Up date on my radiator overflow issue. After waiting almost one month for a new radiator cap, it was the cap. Problem solved. temps cooler and no more draining the overflow tank and refilling the radiator with my mity-vac!
  16. 1546 miles in 23:07 and 2021 miles in 35:54. and 2600+ overall in less than 48. For the most part the bike was off long enough to gas up and go.
  17. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. So far I believe I did not have all the air evacuated from the system and running it so hard, well.... I will again "Burp" the bike this weekend. But so far since being home and commuting everyday there hasn't been an issue. But the temps have not been over 180 on the bike. Again, Thanks!
  18. Coolant is Engine Ice ready mix. No coolant in the oil or white smoke. The bike is running fine. This was a hard run for over 2600 miles of which over 2000 was done within 36 hours. I probably had some air in the system and never ran hot enough until this trip. I'll try burping it again. But so far in two days commute no issues, no leaking, but temps have been under 180.
  19. Completed a major service on my 2016 FJ09 at about 23,000 miles (including a coolant change. I now have over 27,000 on the bike with before my IBA BBG1500/SS2000 Gold ride attempt (made both) I had no issues until yesterday during a very long ride home from Haugan, Montana. The bike started puking coolant and the engine check light came on while the overflow tank was full. When I got home the temp gauge read 260 degrees (HOT!) and the fan was on. Checking it out this morning the over flow tank is again full but the radiator was low about 7 ounces. I refilled, fired up the bike, at 221 degrees the fan came on and it started puking coolant again from the overflow, about 4 ounces or so. I waited for the bike to cool down, opened the radiator cap, again low. I topped it off with about the same amount and fired it back up. This time no overflow and again the fan can on at 221 degrees. My question is why did it start to overflow after putting on almost 2000 miles before my BBG/SS2000G attempt? and not manifest a overflow leak before this long ride? Any thoughts? Air in the system?
  20. 1000 mile days!!! 😏😏😁 Best of luck with your Italian stallion! Painting with a broad brush, but most riders don’t know jack shit about the mechanics, let alone the electrical on their bikes. The best forum for detailed information that I’ve ever known was the concours owners group.
