  1. 2018 Yamaha Tracer GT first ride at pace, fully loaded with luggage - Dave Moss Tuning Premium Article Excerpt. To read the full article please Subscribe...
  2. Dave Moss has done a couple of interesting articles on the GT suspension. he was running one on one of his trips to New Zealand, if your interested there well worth a read.
  3. Yes very easy to mount on the hand guard bolt.
  4. I fitted an led bar under the nose as I don’t like the look of the aux lights either side, also small bullet lights on the hand guards that are very discreet. unfortunately this photo has the strip light switched off but you can see it and I can confirm it is very bright and effective. Mike
  5. how heavy are you, I suspect the standard spring suits somebody in the 65- 70 kilo range.
  6. This article from BSD may be of interest Yamaha MT-09 Tracer ECU remap – a horrible mess as standard and properly transformed! - BSD Performance We rode this Tracer in standard form and it was horrible. It’s... Now before we start with the ECU remap we just want to say one thing; anybody buying a full Akrapavic system for one of these is wasting their money. With the baffle in it kills the bike dead, losing 30bhp. The bike was running poorly and massively rich so we stopped work to have a rethink. And what we found is a de-catted standard pipe gives the best results for minimum spend. Sent from my iPad
  7. I your looking for a Genuine Yamaha touring screen in the UK give me a shout.I have one that only did a couple of miles as I preferred the short MRA one. Mike
  8. I have the standard and comfort seat and yes the comfort is better but not brilliant. I got an air hawk to try and used it on my last trip and found it made a big difference but takes a bit of getting used to and playing with the air pressure. Anyway yesterday I was out for the day and decided to remove the air hawk and just run the Yamaha comfort seat and after about 60 miles I wishing I had left it on. I’m planning on getting a gel pad and fitting it into the standard seat to see how that works out when I get round to it I will report back.
  9. Sat Nav tracer 900 GT - Google Photos 9 new photos added to shared album If you have a look at the photo in this link and look closely you can see the feed tube behind the gear linkage and quickshifter sensor. fitting the reservoir in the space between the frame and the side panel meant I did not have to cut any parts away and left me with more space in the rear for other stuff like compressor and puncture repair kit. Mike
  10. I fitted one in the small space on the left hand side between the frame and the side panel. Fits and works a treat, I put a wee fit of foam under it to increase the angle. Mike
  11. Having had my gps on the handlebars and above the dash I have to say above the dash is by far the better location for me. your eyes are in line with it rather than having to look down and if you need reading glasses then it’s also much easier to see. It was after riding a BMW GS that convinced me to mount it above the DASH. At the End of the day it’s what suits the individual best.
  12. Steve I fabricated my own bracket to mount the GPS above the TFT dash and It’s fine for vibration. But watch out as the TFT display can interfere with the satnav and cause it to lose the satellite signal. see my post sat nav mount sorted. Mike
  13. Can’t say I have really noticed the whine, I ride with ear plugs and any noise I have heard I just accepted was part of the tracer experience. However regarding your gps it’s the tft display that’s interfering with it, see my post sat nav mount sorted and the link to some photographs of how I have resolved the issue. Mike
  14. The dash does not generate any significant amount of heat so no worries there, and when I’m running the bike it will also have the additional wind cooling. I thought about grounding directly to battery negative but when I tried it, it had no effect, maybe be better once I upgrade it to copper shielding.
  15. Test ride today and sat nav was spot on the whole time, watched the satellite strength display during the ride and I always maintained a healthy signal. Looking into electromagnetic shielding materials it seems copper is the best choice so I have ordered a roll of copper tape to play with, looked at the RFID material and I think it could be a good option when you need flexibility.
  16. Yes it’s the satellite information page on the gps that I have been using and yes the satellites drop of in signal strength and number as you get near the tracer dash. The dash must be generating a significant amount of electromagnetic energy. I removed the dash and wrapped it in aluminium tape then black tape so it looked ok, then moved the gps so it was sitting a bit higher and further forward on the bike. A lot of the interference seems to emanate from the front of the dash so moving it towards the windshield helped a bit. I now seem to have adequate satellite reception but I have still to take the bike out for a run, I will report back on how well it has worked.
  17. I have the tracer GT with the electronic dash see my photo in previous post. I have also had a sat nav for several years with no issues but the dash on the GT is definitely interfering with it. If I watch the satellite signal strength with the bike electrics switched of I have a nice strong signals, then by just switching on the electrics and not starting the bike I can see the signals from the satellites dropping off. As Imove the sat nav away from the dash the satellite signals return and then disappear as Imove it back. I have been shielding the satnav using some aluminium foil tape and moved the gps away a bit and I am now managing to get it showing reasonable satellite signals. I had a garmin 550 which I mounted on the tracer and it was playing up so I assumed it had finally given up so I purchased a new garmin zumo 346, but it looks like the issue was the GT dash. The 346 would work if mounted on the handlebars but it is still affected when you look at the satellite signal levels.
  18. Well after my first ltrip with the sat nav mounted above the display I have discovered a problem. The tracer display is interfering with the sat nav and causing it to lose the signal. I have been experimenting with some aluminium foil shielding and raised the gps a bit with some promising results. I noticed that even with the satnav on the handlebars it is still affected by the tracer display but not to the same degree. I have a Garmin 346, not sure if other units would be affected the same way.
  19. If you remove the screen and its mount then strip the adjustable mount down you will see there are 3 sliders that it runs on. Remove those screws and you will find an o ring inside each one that is used to set the amount of friction when you slide it up and down. I fitted a thicker o ring to the bottom slider on mine after I modified the mount for my gps to fit above the display, it is now very stiff and stays were I set it with out the original locking mechanism see my post satnav mount sorted. This May help
  20. The clock is so I can easily tell the time, I find the onboard clock extremely difficult to read as it’s rather small, It’s a shame Yamaha could not have supplied a better display setup like the BMW or Triumph but it’s all down to price at the end of the day. 10 years ago I could probably have read it ok but I now need glasses for reading close up, this was also one of the reasons I moved the sat nav from the bars, the time difference is just Because I have not reset the main display to BST Regarding the mod it was not difficult if you can fabricate in steel. I used stainless 3 mm for strength and so I could tap holes for the screen mountings. You could probably do it by modifying the original yamaha steel bracket with a welded or bolted on extension, but I just chose to replace it with a custom bracket. It did take quite a few hours by the time I measured things up and fabricated the bracket with repeated trial fitting. I also bought a new plastic screen bracket part 4 in the attached link in case it did not work and had to revert back to original setup, this had to be cut to allow the sat nav to sit neatly above the main display without sticking out. WINDSCREEN MTT850 TRACER 2018 900 MOTO Yamaha motorcycle # YAMAHA - Genuine Spare Parts Catalogue WWW.BIKE-PARTS-YAM.COM If anybody is needing more info feel free to get in touch The plastic screen bracket is a ridiculous price for what it is but what can you do.
  21. No it will still adjust you just slide it up and down no locking mechanism. I changed one of the o rings in the friction part of the mechanism so it’s much stiffer and will stay where you put it. personally I kept the mechanism in one position all the time anyway.
  22. Fabricated a new stainless steel bracket to replace the screen mounting bracket and modified plastic screen mounting . Screen height adjustment which I don’t use is now done by just sliding screen up and down, I had to remove the locking mechanism to get Sat Nav in . I replaced one of the orings in the slider mechanism so it is much tighter and will stay were you set it. GPS is much better above speedo especially with my ageing vision. I bought a new plastic bracket to use in case it all went wrong but it’s worked out really well. see link below for more p Sat Nav tracer 900 GT - Google Photos PHOTOS.APP.GOO.GL 6 new photos added to shared album hoto
  23. Hi I have the Yamaha touring screen and the short MRA sport screen. Having tried them both I’m going to run with the short screen for day to day running, it’s much better than the standard screen as it has you in clean air. The Yamaha touring screen is also better than stock but I need it in the maximum position. It creates a negative pressure area behind it that I noticed and is not as good looking on the bike as the short MRA one but on longer tours when the weather could be bad I think it will be a bonus.
