  1. In Washington, PA. Good brisket sandwich.
  2. I tried the EarPeace, silicone ear plugs last ride. With the quietest inserts and Sena's thin speakers I was able to hear the intercom just fine. The plugs were comfortable all day. Thanks for the tip, jthayer09!
  3. For 32 years I've worn foam disposables such as Howard Leight Laser Lights. I find the Howard Leight Max to be even quieter. Tried silicone and custom molded silicone and didn't like either. I've recently become interested in silicone again, as I see some new designs, like those suggested above, that might work better. Been using Plugfones with the intercom. I just switched to speakers.

  5. Welcome, Ray! Have fun farkling and enjoy the bike.
  6. When I put a wider foot plate on the sidestand the problem was solved. Now I place my heel on the foot plate and push the sidestand down and out.
  7. It's early in the season for that kind of mileage, speaking only for myself. I felt great doing it, but was worn out later that evening.
  8. Rode 400 curvy miles in sunny southern Ohio today. Stopped for lunch at the Reedsville Locks and Dam on the Ohio River. Watched a tanker barge go through the locks and rode on downstream to find three breakaway barges attracting several amateur photo journalists.
  9. OK, restart - photograph your motorcycle at a dam.
  10. I think whatever makes you happy and keeps your chain clean is good. I started using gear oil almost 20 years ago when I bought an SV650 and the owner's manual called for it. When I replaced my chain on the FJ the info with the new chain also called for gear oil. I clean the chain with Muc Off (having previously used kerosene) then wipe on gear oil with a rag. As soon as it is on I wipe off as much as I can and I have never had a problem with flinging the oil. It is only there to prevent rust on the chain plates. When traveling I carry the Muc Off and a small can of Bel Ray Blue (it cleans off nicely), but honestly, I think the lube is not as necessary as the cleaning.
  11. 250 miles on a sunny day in Ohio. In the background is the Dresden Suspension Bridge. Built in 1914 it is an eyebar-chain design similar to the famous Silver Bridge which collapsed in 1967. This one was replaced and by-passed in 1988. It's a good spot to take a break and watch the river flow.
  12. I don't have a suggestion. I just checked my 2015, but I see nothing like this on mine. It's the first I've heard of it.

    Dungeon Ride

Absolutely. But it is just a tiny room with thick stone walls. Nothing to see. It must have had a door or gate, but not now. I wonder how many little brothers got locked in by their siblings before they took the door off? I think it was simply a lock-up. No horror movie furniture. 😉

    Dungeon Ride

I got out with some friends today. We rode 260 or so miles in chilly temperatures. I took them to a spot I had forgotten next to a familiar gas station in Malta, OH. This was the site of a mid-19th century county "dungeon." Many bad jokes ensued. The bell is from an old school.
  15. "Effin Hoofrats!" Someone had to say it. 😉
  16. Next challenge - your bike in front of a roadside smiley.
  17. "...next target - a statue or other outdoor artwork featuring a motorcycle." Portsmouth, Ohio flood wall mural commemorating the Portsmouth Motorcycle Club - Today was a beautiful day to ride, and even though I cursed the names of Garmin and Sena all day, I still had fun.
  18. Muppet from the side, Cylon from the front. +1 on not buying the first model year of HD or Ducati or KTM or my Toyobaru, etc...
  19. I have the Puig dark smoke. About twice a year I crest a hill blind because I can't see through the screen. So far it hasn't bothered me enough to change it. The air flow works for me.
  20. Today I patted the seat and whispered, "Fifty-three degrees next Wednesday." I hope that forecast comes true.
  21. Since hotels are not on my list of safe places at this time, I cannot trailer south for the weekend and ride. So this is my answer - drive a fun car with your motorcycle pals, circle the cars, roll down the windows and have a picnic. I went out alone yesterday and maybe I will again next weekend when the snow has stopped.
  22. Mine is very similar. The wheel spins more as you described than any of the 9 previous bikes I've owned. Pushing it around in the garage requires the transmission be shifted to neutral. On the road, at stop signs, in parking lots, etc... I don't notice any problem.
  23. I feel for ya. I've run out of fuel twice at 190 miles (306 km). Once I had failed to fill up after the previous ride and didn't make it to the nearest station before running out. The other time I just neglected to look at the mileage until it was too late. I carry two liters of emergency fuel with me now.
  24. Since seats and windscreens are matters of personal comfort, and everyone's needs, ergonomics and tastes are a bit different I expect to change them. I haven't ridden any bike for long with stock seat and screen since the 90's. As for the suspension, it's cheap to keep the bike cheap. Some people will like it the way it is. I opted for the upgrade, because better suspension has never disappointed.
  25. My R1150R wasn't an ADV bike either, but I could see the center line in the water so I went for it. No one followed and I had to turn back. 😉
