  1. I wrapped golf club lead tape around the grips. May add more. Really though, the pavement causes much vibration if you pay attention. Anyway, really happy with the Tracer.
  2. I rode similar routes on my F800GT, but not as enjoyable. KC to Williston, ND, to Glacier, to Yellowstone, to Tetons, to Hells Canyon, and back. A riding companion turned to a arsehole which ruined the trip and the buzz of the GT was awful. Convinced that is what made 2 headlight bulbs shoot craps. Got my $ out of it though thanks to Jerry at Bentonville BMW (now OOB sadly. The best dealership EVER imo). I knew better but spent $$ trying to make it what I knew it wasn't! Never works no matter how much you throw at it, and I know that! Got close to 700K in my 64 yrs of riding. Still going strong on my new Tracer 900GT. Like it as much as 2 of my 3 BMW's, and several other bikes. Ride what you got, but be safe!!
  3. The more I ride my '20 GT the more I like it. Got 300 mi in yesterday in blustery wind. Just took off locally with no plan thru the Flint Hills. Handling is great, response too. So far avg mpg is 49.7. Before I order a seat I'm going to rework the rider with some memory foam. Dont think I can make it worse! I bought a Skwoosh seat pad which helped a lot yesterday. Search Skwoosh for info. The return policy is pay shipping back no questions asked. US made.
  4. Any thing more than trace amounts fine metal shavings on a new bike is excessive. I'd insist the dealer note same in my bike record, and put it in writing to them.
  5. After scrolling the thumb wheel to what you want to reset, the light push makes that item flash. Then a firm press will zero that item out and you can scroll to the display item you want. Works for me anyway.
  6. I have never seen visible slivers of metal in oil on any bike I've ever owned. Trace amounts of fine metal fuzz on a drain plug magnet, yes.
  7. Silicon spray is what my dealer used, and I can easily adj grips whike moving but dont intend to. Got enough distractions without adding to the list.
  8. My experience was in the early 90's when they were messing around with cars. So, that likely was a factor. You had a good experience more recently and that's a good more current story.
  9. Worst seat I ever had was a Corbin ordered when I purchased a new R1100RT BMW. They had zero interest in working with me on it. The best was a CBailey the made free for me. I bought a used Russell Day Long and Bailey was just getting into the seat business. I suggested on a web site that those of us who had different seats we didn't really like could on an honor system swap those seats to try other makes. Bailey contacted me volunteering to take the Russell in exchange for a rider/pillion custom seat made free. They paid for shipping the Russell, and within 2 days of me sending my info sent me a custom seat combo. It wasn't quite right, I told them so and in 2 days I had a remake that was fantastic fit. They paid for return shipping. I rode many 500 - 900+ days on that seat. I forgot all about Terry Adcox, good reputation and apparently good workmanship with options. Thanks for the post! CBailey has gone out of the seat business sticking to airplane window products I think.
  10. I'll try to remember to ask my dealer 2morrow when my bike gets breakin service what they suggest for those 2 switches lube. Talked to the tech who performed my service today. He shot the wheel with silicone spray. Worked great afterward, in fact I could access the heated grips and easily soft push the thumb wheel to change temps even while in motion. The firm push was easier and the soft push was too. Will check it over the next couple of days to see if short lived solution but so far so good. Don't think anything exotic is needed. FWIW.
  11. Over Easter I got my 600 mile break-in done, it was all dry miles. I opened the saddlebags and found lots of insect parts inside both bags, so there has to be quite a gap in the clamshell mating surface to the back box. There is no gasket or rubber seal in the mating surfaces. I looked at to parts fiche schematics on -line and neither shows and detail, just the complete saddlebag. In rain those bags would leak like a sieve. I usually pack my stuff in zip lock or roll top water proof bags even though all the OEM saddlebags I have owned had seals in the mating surfaces and zero moisture in side the bags. Question is do any of you with OEM saddlebags have any seal material in the lid/body mating surfaces? Can't imagine there shouldn't be.
  12. Shizzle, I am one who gets the bike he wants just because. It really isn't anybodys business. Really cant care less if they it justified or not. Approval or permission NOT required.
  13. If the bike has loaded side cases, a top box, and passenger it may become tail heavy ? Just my guess. Unintentional wheelies.
  14. Harbor Freight has some fairly thin depth hard lockable waterproof cases that might work. They look like Pelican boxes. You'd have to figure out how to attach it. FWIW, hope this helps.
  15. Have about 350 miles in this weekend, hope to get to first service break-in mileage tomorrow. Had some trouble getting the grip heaters on today but finally got through that ok. When home I go the F owners manual out and while looking for something else came across early page in section 4 that describes thumb wheel use! I scanned that page early on but went brain dead when I needed it. Hate to say it but it must be a man thing. That wheel still is not easy to use but when used with the touch described it does what it should. Anyway, D'oh!
  16. Got the grip heaters to work. Watched the video from the earlier reply and I found another YouTube tutorial with my display screen. My hearing loss combined with a heavy Scottish accent made it hard to discern but the clicking through the scroll wheel and showing what display changes helped a lot. I was definitely blacksmith forceful trying to enter whatever I changed. Now my gentle cherub like touch works great. Still won't do it while in motion. Thanks for all the responses fellow inmates!   17. I don't see why so many temp settings in each of what is low/med/high, when a simple button push for 'on", "low", "med", "hi", "off" would be adequate. Thx for your reply.
  18. Today was my 1sr ride on the Tracer so I'm just getting acquainted. Controls are far more electronic vs the more mechanical I'm used to. Once I get things set I likely wont change settings much or often. I've ridden 100's of K miles looking forward to the '20 GT trips. Thx for your reply.
  19. That scroll wheel is a pita, and I agree with janky! I wondered if I was not delicate enough to register clicks at the right time. Your reply is helpful, as was the first reply, thanks very much. I'll fool around with it tomorrow. Trying to adjust the grip heaters while riding is very distracting, such things I try very hard to avoid while riding! Thanks again!
  20. Thanks for the video. My Tracer is a 2020 and the display differs from the video (only one display screen) as does the menu selector, a thumb wheel on the right side switch cluster. When I was on my ride this morning, bike stopped but running no matter what I did with the menu wheel the "off" never switched to "on" no matter if the background color was black or white. Tomorrow I will see if that changes when the bike is in gear and moving. Nowhere in the owners manual is on/off mentioned, which seems like a pretty important omission! I have seen lots of install videos but never thought to fast forward near the end as you said. D'oh! Appreciate your help! Ride Safely!
  21. Its easy to adjust temp level settings, not sure why so many are of use. The grip icon always shows off, although the background switches between black and white What am I missing!?!!!
  22. What about turbulence, better or worse from stock?
