phpaul
I swung by 3 used car dealers today and gave them my requirements. Nobody had anything on the lot or in inventory, but they took notes and my cell number and will let me know if anything comes up. I have seen several likely candidates on Craigslist but they're all half a state away. Spending a day to go look at something and finding out they lied, OR liking it and then figuring out how to get it home is going to be a lot of work and I'm in no particular hurry so we'll let things simmer for a while and see what floats to the top.

It’s a new 2024 that I took delivery of at the end of December. I had a very specific set of options I was looking for, so I special ordered it back in October. More money than I probably should have spent on a car, but in this age of $80K pickup trucks, it almost seems like a bargain. It’s an incredibly engaging & entertaining car to drive, and I haven’t regretted a single minute of owning it.

While the V8 & manual pairing definitely limits your options, there are plenty of viable choices out there in the used market. As with anything, the challenge is finding the right combination of nice and affordable… Mustang GTs in particular seem to be either very nice or beat to death, with not much in the middle. Mustang GT, Camaro SS, Challenger R/T or ScatPack all fit the bill. If you want something a little more comfy, look for a Pontiac GTO (2006 model with the 6.0 motor), a Pontiac G8 GT (very hard to find with a 6-speed), a Chevrolet SS, or a Cadillac CTS-V. BMW did various V8 & manual combinations, but I haven’t really kept up with the viable import options. Good luck, and I hope you find what you’re looking for! Enjoy the ride. I looked up the price, out of curiosity, for one of those beauties and immediately called for the defibrillator! 🤑 😲 Congrats on the new purchase - very nice. 👍 1
Brian
Try a Corvette. Have had my C6 for 17 years. But I have gone from hopping in and out in my 40's... to falling onto the seat and rolling myself out in my 60's. Hell getting old!

LOL, I have a Hyundai Veloster and my 70 and 80 year old friends all have issues getting in and out of it. Me, I just lead with my butt fall onto the seat and bring my legs in. Turned 74 this year. After decades of planning and saving, I’m closing in on 60, and realizing that NOW is the time to start enjoying the things that we’ve rightfully earned over the course of our careers. I’m not a proponent of generational wealth (presumably since my wife & I didn’t come from that background), and our kids have been given educations and every opportunity to be productive and self-sufficient. At this point, we’re selfishly (and unapologetically) living for ourselves… #DieWithZero
Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted April 24 Premium Member Share Posted April 24 Confucius started the social covenant between parent and offspring that mandated children should be raised from day 1 so when the parents retire the children without question will take care of the parents in a style better than they were accustomed to. He said "Sow your seeds early in the season in neat rows so by early fall you may reap the bounty of your cultivation." SWMBO and I are already enjoying this practice even though we say we're not retired. And the kids don't know.
phpaul
Got that Vette bought. Exactly as advertised, 20,435 miles on the clock, immaculate inside and out. Some very minor paint issues by the driver's side headlight which he mentioned when we were texting back and forth. Test drive was brief due to lack of gas and rain (he said he was pretty sure that's the first time it had ever been rained on...) but ran good, clutch was good, shifted well and no squeaks or rattles even on a rough dirt road on the way to pavement. Got insurance and tags taken care of, going back Saturday to pick it up. 3 4
