I like to know what's behind me. Sometimes I'm not the fastest thing on the road and if I was I'd want to check behind for cops. Since the mirrors mostly showed my elbows I knew I needed to change something.

But I also sometimes do bicycle race referee or escort work and for that you really need mirrors.

Maybe the people who don't have a problem with the stock mirrors move their heads to the side when looking in the mirror?
If your body style is such that you can see behind you with the stock mirrors, congratulations. Some of us can't, and the mirror extensions are a great modification. If you can see fine, consider yourself lucky, and move on!

I was replying to someone else's specific question. I'm also a relatively large guy, 5' 9" and 210 lb, and see fine with the stock mirrors. I'm glad the extensions are available and work for you, whatever works best, use it. Please however, do not tell me to "move on," when I express my experiences and thoughts.

Wasn't responding to your quote, just the overall thread questioning the value of a modification that many folks find very useful. No offense intended.....

I foresee mirror extenders in my future. No matter how I adjust them the first 1/3 of the mirror is taken up by my arm/shoulder. With a little head tilt I can see behind me just fine. Broad shoulders and a Road crafter 3 don't help.

I road a ZX14r the other day (fantastic bike) and was stunned by how much better the mirrors were.

I also agree with the above advice about getting the best gear you can afford. Better to stretch to afford safety gear than stretch to afford the bike.

I can't emphasise enough how many issues have been cured with my suspension upgrade.
1  Handling is amazing now
2  Speed wobble is completely gone
3  Very dificult to touch down the oil pan or exhaust
4  Seat is more comfortable

Cool! Thanks for the posts. I hadn't even really thought of getting mirror extenders. I've got a few ideas for windscreens and seats, now it's time to convince the wife to let me do it.

IMO one is no easier than the other but in wedded bliss to the same human female for only 36 years (a blink of an eye to a Vulcan) with whom together we increased the the estrogen level in our little family by 4 fold.
