I saw other color combinations on the Brosh site. All of their "Optimal" jackets contain black but are not all black. They have red & black, gray and black, yellow and black. I am wondering if the red & black is a decent match to my red & black FJ-09. Regarding the evaporative cooling vest, I found that they don't work well with a non-vented jacket. Without air flow, mine heated up in 30 minutes and then it felt like a hot water bottle. I expect that it works better with a mesh jacket.

I chose long sleeves because that is what I like to wear under my riding jacket.

Are you looking specifically for noise-canceling earbuds, or are you interested in listening to music while riding without having to turn up the volume to drown out road noise? I prefer sound-isolating earphones to noise-canceling earphones. The Shure SE215 blocks up to 37 dB of outside noise, and they have very good audio quality. They block road noise so well that you don't need to turn up the volume very high. They come with either wires or a Bluetooth receiver. The wires loop over your ears to keep them in place, and they fit inside a helmet.

Those are famous towers or a statue in Europe and the USA. Tracer900 is now the worldwide name for the latest model of our motorcycle, is it not?

I can confirm that the FZ09 red fender is a match.

I added red wheel rim stickers to my red FJ-09. I applied them by hand and I did not get perfect circles. If you insist on perfect circles then you may need to use a tool or a guide. If you are standing back far enough to take a photo of my whole bike then it is not obvious that they aren't perfect. You have to focus on the wheel alone to notice that they aren't perfect. I do not insist on perfection in regards to bling so I am satisfied that they enhance the appearance of the bike. By the way, I added a red front fender from a 2017 FZ-09 to increase the red content. It is a perfect match to the FJ-09 red. I'll add a photo of it to my gallery soon.

I didn't bother prying up the indents. My impact wrench loosened the nut and pushed up the indents all in a fraction of a second.

I have not ordered a red fender yet because I would rather spend the money on Terry's seat. If my black fender gets any sort of damage then it will jump to the front of the line to be replaced by a red fender. I have replaced the red "fairing" on the left side of the tank because it got scratched and bent, so I am willing to replace plastic parts that are slightly damaged. My birthday is coming soon and my wife advises me not to spend money before my birthday.

Here is what you get from a simple copy and paste of the FZ09 front wheel onto the FJ09 photo... black FZ09 forks and Candy Red fender. The color match looks good to me.

I have not seen them side-by-side, but Yamaha calls both of them "Candy Red" on their respective web pages. See the specifications section on 2017 FZ-09 and 2015 FJ-09. I would expect that they would use different names if they were different shades of red, but I don't know that to be true.

You can add a candy red fender now. Get it from a 2017 FZ-09. Bike bandit has them for $116. I have come close to getting one myself.

Yup high compression, which is why it boggles my mind you cats insist on trying to save a buck a fill up...Our compression ratio is 11.5:1. Is that high enough to require high-octane fuel? I ran only high-octane in my turbocharged car because it had an effective compression ratio of 16:1 when the boost was at 15 psi. When testing 87 octane fuel in that car, the boost could be up to 8 psi without detonating. The effective compression ratio was about 12:1 at 8 psi. Our FJ-09 falls within that ratio. I usually pump 91 octane into my FJ-09, but I don't sweat it if I can save 50 cents per gallon for 87 octane or if 91 is not available. Some places that I rode in Oregon only had 87.

Ooh... I think 6HP might be pretty generous... but the angry intake growl (10 placebo HP) is worth the mod.I recall being told that it was a 4hp gain at the peak and 6hp in the midrange. But I don't see that much midrange gain in the published dyno chart. It looks more like 3hp. That is for the combination of their tuning AND removing the foam. The peak gain is a solid 4hp at the wheel.

Removing the foam under the gas tank allows for more airflow to the intake. 2WDW measured a 6hp gain in the midrange after removing the foam. :thumbsup: That is what I was told while I was waiting for my ECU to be flashed.

I have another data point in case it interests anyone. I just wore out a rear Metzeler Roadtec 01 after 7200 miles. In comparison, I got 8500 miles out of the original Dunlop and I got 11,500 out of the Michelin PR4. Next up is the Dunlop Roadsmart 3.

I say that Cycle News exaggerated the vibrations. The only problem that I have with vibration is that the mirrors vibrate after you install the mirror extenders. They didn't vibrate without the extenders. It is not a big deal because I can see other vehicles even though I can't read the license plate. Without the extenders I could see only my elbows. I have never had a problem with foot-peg vibration. I had tingling hands when I first started riding my FJ09. The grip puppies cured that. I removed them recently and I don't get the tingling any more. I bought better gloves in the meantime so that may have helped.

My recent chain and front sprocket combination is much noisier than the original chain and sprocket. The chain is a DID 525 VX Pro-street X'ring. The sprocket is a JTF#1591, 16 tooth. I purchased both from sprocket center. The sprocket does not have the OEM rubber damping. Next time I'll get the OEM-style damped sprocket. Has anyone else had a noisy replacement for the chain and sprocket?

2015 FJ-09 bought new in June 2015. I am not very picky with maintenance. I change the oil every 4000 miles with Shell Rotella T6. I apparently don't lube the chain enough, as I have replaced the chain and front sprocket twice. I replaced the brake fluid and the coolant on schedule. I replaced the cam chain tensioner with the APE manual tensioner. I have ignored all of the other lube items in the maintenance schedule because they seem to be excessive, but I'll probably lube the swingarm bearings next winter. As far as riding style: I don't consider myself to be very aggressive because I have never taken a performance riding course and never went to a track day. I enjoy full-on acceleration and lofting the front wheel frequently, but am glad when the TCS pulls it back down. The only times that I get to triple digit speeds are when I pass another vehicle, and I only need to pass one car to go from 60mph to triples. I use the FJ for commuting, day trips, and two or three day trips when I load it up with camping gear.

Got the valve clearances checked and spark plugs replaced. No shims were needed as the clearances were still within specs at 24600 miles. I also decided to bite on Dunlop's $75 tire rebate and ordered a set of Roadsmart III from Rocky Mountain MC. The cost is $298 for two tires. The $75 rebate comes later. Then I committed myself to changing and balancing my own tires for the next several years by purchasing a set of Motion Pro tire tools from Revzilla. This by Motorcyclist Garage shows the tools and how to use them.

The S.E. part of the state is fairly desolate, but the N.E. part of the state has some truly phenomenal scenery and amazing riding. I spend a LOT of time riding that corner of the state. If you start in John Day, you will find great riding in every direction. Bruce Hansen raves about NE and North-Central Oregon in his book. He rides a big heavy touring bike, but he still likes twisties. He likes open roads where he can see around the corners, which explains his preference for NE Oregon.
