  1. @piotrek I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the post about SH23 bags. I already have SH36 set but they are so wide I only use them for longer trips. The SH23 were on offer for £99 delivered so I got some today and will probably leave them on the bike all the time. The only downside I can see is the plastic upper end of the 3P mounts needs swapping between SH36 and SH23, but as these are only held on by one screw each side it doesn’t seem so bad. Measurements: from outermost part of front vertical section to edge of case is 19.4cm from outermost part of horizontal mount section to edge of case is 22cm
  2. I removed the cigarrette lighter plug and replaced it with a dual USB socket which has a voltmeter read out between the sockets. I also swapped sides as it made sense for running the USB cable back to my tank bag. The USB socket was very slightly bigger than the hole, but short work with a half-round file made it wide enough to slot in. Then just swap the wires over. USB cables seem to fit tighter so they don't vibrate out. The voltmeter readout is very dim and can only really be seen at night, but the socket was very cheap on fleabay. Something like this one
  3. Yikes! There are loads of tiny tyre compressors that hook onto your battery and weigh bugger all.
  4. I agree @duhs10. I ordered and fitted one after your review and it's staying on all summer.
  5. You will need to drill the fat end off the pin going through the original footpeg. Electric drill and a large drill bit required. Very quick to do, so perhaps you can borrow a drill?
  6. Looks good @wordsmith. What's the purpose of the relay in the circuit? Do just the additional LEDs flash or the OEM brake lights as well? Do you have the circuit diagram you could post?
  7. I fitted this very cheap Chinese screen from ebay for the summer http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Bubble-Motor-Windshield-WindScreen-For-Yamaha-MT-09-MT-09-Tracer-15-16-BK/401175762937?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Most posts in here (quite rightly) focus on where the air flow hits your helmet, turbulence and noise. But, for me the most amazing effect is psychological. The bike now feels like a little hooligan: darty, sure footed, flickable (teenage is another word that pops to mind). It's been such a change in character from when I had my tall Puig Touring screen fitted for winter, when the bike felt like a touring, grown-up kind of bike. Perhaps it's just the effect of good weather? Anyone else notice a difference in character between screens?
  8. After reading this thread I ordered this type. https://northwestmotorcyclesdirect.com/Oxford-LidLock-Helmet-Lock?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc%20merchant&utm_campaign=Oxford%20LidLock%20Helmet%20Lock I have a Schuberth C3 helmet which has a ratchet type strap and the T bar that came with the lock is too wide for the ratchet. I'll have to grind the edges to make it fit. The cable is plastic, so totally insecure. And, it came with no instructions at all on how to reset the code. I've figured it out now, but I'm not sure I would recommend the lock in general.
  9. Did you also get the handguard relocation bits with the screen? They catch otherwise.
  10. Good news! Have you written a summary of what the final parameters were anywhere and perhaps a "how to" now that you've worked it all out for others to follow? it would be great if you haven't already.
  11. Crash, why are your wires behind the handlebar risers? Shouldn't they be in front of them?
  12. I still have it, but bought a different version that doesn't have the piece over the top, it traps the sides with big washers. My problems with the version like yours were most probably my own fault. The small allen bolts came lose often, so I over tightened them, which caused the middle section to bow upwards, so I tightened some more and stripped the threads. I planned on replacing the centre section with a thicker piece at some point, but it's way down the to-do list.
  13. Piotrek, I bought the same side stand piece and it stripped the threads on the two bolts in the middle, that are used to stop the assembly wobbling. I would suggest not over tightening.
  14. It look like pure coolant additive has a higher freezing point so doesn't protect you from winter temperatures, has a less efficient heat transfer ability so doesn't protect as well from high summer temperatures and doesn't keep particulate anti-corrosion factors in suspension so they settle out and collect in the cooling system. If the article is correct, three pretty good reasons to mix with water. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1989-03-02/topic/8903030329_1_antifreeze-coolant-ethylene-glycol-pure
  15. I tried bending but the stripe was too thick and creased on the inner part of the curve. So I simply overlapped at the join and trimmed so the joint has the same width. Do you really have 15km? That's a lot of stripes!
  16. RTV is room temperature vulcanisation, or more simply a mastic that goes off by itself without need for a curing agent. Motor factors will sell them as instant gasket or simply sealant.
  17. "Incidents" happen all the time and are seldom predictable. I was out this weekend and watched from behind as a rider at traffic lights misjudged the camber of the road and the loose surface when putting his foot down. He only just avoided dropping the bike. Even a stationary drop of the bike will scratch the handguards and mirrors, but it gets more annoying if you damage the engine covers. Thinking about low speed spills I went for sliders on front and rear axles to try and minimise fork and frame damage, plus these are quite cheap. I then went for SW Motech engine guards as I wanted something that looked as unobtrusive as possible. As for a high speed spill: you're in the lap of the gods and I worry much more about myself than the bike.
  18. Inspired by duhs10 orange pinstripes, I dug out some red versions I already had and did the SH36 side cases and the bike. Nice quick job.
  19. Maybe I'm just an optimist but I see this recall as Yamaha being good manufacturers. They may have had one reported failure, looked at the possible cause and decided that although the original design was absolutely fine ( as lets face it, no one on this forum has had problems), there was a way to improve it further. It must be a costly exercise to issue a recall, in terms of mechanic hours, parts and postage. I appreciate them looking out for potential issues and fixing them for free.
  20. I love this euphemism for growing a beer gut ??
  21. Awesome helmet. The Sena 10-U also fits inside the helmet so nothing sticks out.
