  1. I need some advice... My 6 year old OEM Yuasa YTZ-10S batt is no longer holding an adequate charge to start the C3. Lights and horn work but relay chatters when starter is pressed. So, I guess I need a new batt. BUT a replacement Yuasa is $190!! Have any of you kids used a different brand batt that you would recommend?
  2. Occam’s razor indicates a cap replacement is in order. (that cap looks tired)
  3. I installed the Custom LED Blaster X on my 2016 FJ and love it. Totally plug n Play and works with stock turn signal bulbs (if you order an optional wiring piece). Took 10 minutes to pop in and is very programmable and way brighter than stock tail light. I assume Cruz would disengage at the initial illumination of the light (current flow) no matter what pattern is selected. Check to be sure.
  4. So here is my question... If we are going to adjust pre-load up n down to get what "feels right" when riding, why bother to initially set pre-load for 45mm of sag? Is the sag setting a motorcyclist myth or what?
  5. My riding buddy just replaced his 1200 RT with a R 1250 RT. it is big but he reports it has noticeably more power and pull and is very fast. We ride a lot of twisty two-lanes together and his 1200 always handled well. It was fast, smooth and had great brakes. He expects as much and more from the 1250. I've ridden both and they are a lot more refined for long-haul touring than my little FJ, plus two-up is totally nice on the big BMers. Can't go wrong. He paid around $20k last month for a 2020 1250 with 5k miles on it. His 1200 is for sale for $8k
  6. What’s the mileage on your odometer?
  7. Am I correct in thinking that the optimum fuel air / fuel ratio is 14 to 1? If so will this recal procedure set the MPU to that value? Just curious....
  8. 2and3 makes a good point above. And while we’re at it, do you have life insurance? Cause if you are too injured to need health ins it would be nice for your family to be able to pay off the house and replace your income to age 66! Not to be morbid or anything…. 😉
  9. I remember those ST tech days. They were frequent and well attended. Great you are now getting them going for our Yamaha family. thanks!
  10. I'll echo what's said above. It takes only a slightly injurious event to end up with a huge medical bill. Motorcycling is for most of us the MOST risky thing we do. In addition, since Covid cage drivers seem more distracted, aggressive, speed-prone and intolerant than before, upping the anti for all us riders. Get some type of coverage. Cobra is crazy expensive so I'd look elsewhere for catastrophic or the Democrat alternative (thanks Barach!). Since you are sooo close to retirement why risk a financial setback now? You're runway to leisure is short.
  11. Let the fun begin!!! After a long break from riding I seem to forget how fast my FJ is. Yesterday I was entering the interstate up a long curved ramp and was doing 100 in 5th by the time I merged into traffic. These bike are CRAZY! Be careful the first few weeks.
  12. Yup. I'm looking forward tp Americade in Like George NY in June.
  13. Just an idea... After I switched to a 17-tooth sprocket up front I noticed an instant gain in mileage without any lost performance. For increasing touring range it's an easy and quick mod to try.
  14. Great and welcome back! We've missed you folks to our north. The new screen looks cool and I love the tint.
  15. And what was your impression of the Dave Moss tuning changes on this ride? Did you notice any differences since the last time you rode these gems?
  16. Just curious: Do any of you folks live in a locale where motorcycles must undergo regular emission testing using a tail pipe probe? And if so does that prevent you from messing around with intake and exhaust systems?
  17. Great photos @maximo, thanks. You are lighter than I so I guess your settings might not be right for me. Also, street tuning is a lot different than track tuning. You mentioned he set you up for comfort, which makes sense. Most of us do not brake and accelerate at 90% on the street. Best $60 you ever spent. I wish he would visit New England sometime!
  18. What did he charge for his time and in person service?
  19. It is now thoroughly broken in. Ride it in joy my friend.
  20. Can you please give me the details on the backrest? It looks nice and my gal would love one. DIY or commercial?
  21. I talk to myself before starting off: "Ride smart, stay aware, don't get angry, keep ego in check, you're not in a hurry, they'll kill you and not mean too."
  22. I enjoy coming up on a pack of Harleys, doing a mass-pass on them, and disappearing around the next corner at a good lean angle. What fun we have on our little bikes.
  23. Occasionally a Lunar Rover will pass you going the other way...
  24. I have in my possession a SECRET Yamaha document that details the real function of that rubber arrow thingy: It is in fact a Seat Resonance Reduction Damper (SRRD) It is designed to shift the frequency of the many and various vibrations emitted by the C3 triple they progress up the frame into the seat. This is done to to reduce the well documented problem of Buzzy Butt experience by most owners / riders. Discard this important safety device at your own risk (Note: Doing so might void the warranty in year 6.)
