  1. now THAT is some serious protection
  2. w00t; nailed another one Welcome !
  3. What, no skid plate congrats!! Looks like it's shaping up nicely. Sounds like you're in for a great riding season.
  4. you might have to loosen the plastic screws a bit?
  5. Following a great review & recommendation from someone on this forum, I chose an RKA bag with no regrets...other than I could have ordered a slightly larger bag!
  6. My o-rings were pretty much toasted when I bought the bike (used); the stock chains seem to fall apart quickly. RK or D.I.D. are great. Do yourself a favour and grab a rivet tool for the connecting link. They're not expensive, and they're FAR safer than the clip connecting links. O-rings are good enough for our bikes. X-rings are nice, but probably a bit overkill for the majority of our riding conditions. Seems to me the wiper action of the X would be better suited for off-road, but I suppose that's subjective. In theory, the X ring has less contact surface with the chain plate(s), so there would be a bit less friction. https://o-ring.info/en/downloads/material-datasheets/x-ring-vs-o-ring/ ...and sprockets.
  7. Welcome, friend!! I think you speak for us all with that exuberance for the engine
  8. IIRC they're a 60/40 on/offroad or something. Seemed like an odd choice for the FJ. I can only imagine the dealership just had them laying around and it was simply convenient to mount them. That's sick that the side cases fit!! Seems like the planets really lined up for you on this Honda
  9. I'm curious as to how those Conti's will wear. My FJ came with the same tires, and they wore terribly. The rear took a puncture all too quickly, and the front cupped and feathered in odd patterns. I'm sure it was mostly the rider, but after moving to Road 5's it's been smooth sailing. And smooth wear. I'd bet they're more appropriate for a heavier bike such as that gleaming V4.
  10. Congrats!! That helps take the sting out of it
  11. eh, seems minor? You can probably straighten that out with a decent pair of pliers, then buff out any marring. Sucks! Hopefully you didn't catch an ankle under the bike or anything.
  12. A roll of gasket material is cheap, and there'd be enough there to last a very long time.
  13. Welcome! You picked an amazing bike. Lots of great info here; lurk on!!
  14. When I moved from BC to AB in the early 90's, it was exactly the other way around. AB was way expensive, and BC was cheap. Wasn't unusual back then to see a LOT of BC plates parked around AB...you know...belonging there, but 'sold' to a relative for $1. And that relative just happens to be visiting AB every day...driving them to work, driving them home... ...and now Dad is seriously contemplating selling me 3 bikes for $1 each...
  15. Oh they still do, and hard. My dad was quoted $800 for one-way insurance for 6 months. Clean driving record. He's looking at over $2400 for collision etc. ICBC is in BIG trouble.
  16. That might be subjective. I've got what the dealership told me is the '3rd generation' CCT installed as a recall, and it's never been a problem in 10k+ kms except for a wee bit of rattle now and then that always clears up, however I think there are several folks here running manual tensioners with an equal trouble-free experience.
  17. I cheaped out and opted out of collision. Year one was $110. Last year $140-ish.
  18. This is reason # 45967 I have a telescopic magnet on hand at all times
  19. That's awesome. Not quite a barn find, but almost as good. You could always tune up the BMW and sell it for a profit...
  20. It's an anti-theft device. It prevents someone with a coat hanger wire from flipping the lever that unlocks the seat.
  21. ...aaaaand add one more farkle to the list...
