  1. I have a SHAD three box set of luggage and never had any issues well maybe a slightly front lightness sensation for the first few miles until you get used to the wee bit of extra weight over the back wheel. I travel quite light and packed for a weeks camping only added 25 kg to the back. definitely think the recommendation from Yamaha is more from the legal department than the test engineers
  2. Just about everywhere except the brakes, seats screen or handlebar/dash. Usually applied before I put it off the road for the winter and after a really really good clean. There are a couple of good U-tube videos showing the application process
  3. Hi Matthew, Coming from malta your bike is never far from the sea, could it be salt water corrosion that's causing the problem. My bike is 5 years old and apart from a mild steel bracket I made and fitted without treating the holes i drilled It isn't showing any corrosion issues. I have treated everywhere on the bike several times with ACF 50 maybe something you should try too.
  4. First modification I made to mine when I bought it was the PUIG touring screen. In agreement with all your comments, Don't particularly like the aesthetics but function is so much better. I did feel that the top heavy look of the screen had to be balanced by sticking a beak on it. I did find the big screen very uncomfortable on my last wee camping trip when the temperature got into the low to mid thirties, Just as well we don't see that happening much where I hail from.
  5. I've 20,000 miles on my original set and wasn't planning to change them until I have the bike stripped down for a valve check hopefully sometime soon. Don't think they need to be changed at 8,000 miles
  6. Life is too short to live with regrets. If your current bike isn't working for you it's time to change. Have you considered the new Honda NT with the Africa Twin engine It,s getting good reviews.
  7. Me too, I used a medium length set this summer for the first time. Fantastic performance in an easily used product. Wouldn't go back and use anything else now after having used them. Rok straps definitely Rock
  8. I have my 6th set of Avon storm 3D XM's sitting in my garage ready to be fitted next month. Have used them on my previous two bikes Yamaha 900 Diversion and Honda CBF 1000. No issues with any of the tires and both dry and wet weather performance has been faultless. The present set on the Tracer went on at 10,700 miles I knew they were getting close to the limit when I checked them last week before I went off on a weekend camping trip and are probably now just under the legal limit and need to be changed. I hit 20,000 miles during the weekend so nearly 10,000 miles from them. I won't complain about that. I have heard some feedback on another site about de-lamination of Avon tires but as I said I've had no problems.
  9. It's only money,If you can justify the extra cost to upgrade to a newer slightly better equipped bike and would like and use the stuff go for it. Bare in mind that you might not get the full $6k return for your FJ09
  10. Another interesting twist to the Topic, Electronic safety aids must be a good idea and I wouldn't argue against them. I'm now looking forward to a bike with active cruise control and lane assist and automatic emergency braking fully automatic lights and as long as it features the Honda prototype stability feature and a suitable seat belt I can relax and have a sleep on the fuel tank while the bike takes me to the twisty bits.😄 a coffee machine and alarm clock might be helpful as well.
  11. Value for Money!!! It has been interesting reading through this topic even though it has drifted away from the OP. I have had My 17 reg MT 09 Tracer for 4 years now. On the test ride I experienced the WOW factor, it felt so much better and exciting in every way from the Honda CBF1000 I had at the time that I was desperate to empty my bank account to "upgrade" and get a Tracer. When I had changed into my "Sensible Hat" rather than pay £11,000 for a new bike I went instead for a 20 month old, Low mileage pre loved example priced at £7,000 by the time I had sold My Honda it had cost me £5,400 to change my bike. If I wanted to change my bike today for a new T9 I would expect to have to give the stealership my bike and about £7,000. now as much as the new T9 might be better in many ways In My opinion and to be honest when it comes to my bike that's the only one that counts it isn't £7,000 better. You do your research you ask opinions and you make a decision that suits you best But I'll be keeping my bike for a good few years more.
  12. I had booked test rides for the Tracer, BMW XR 900 and the Triumph Tiger 850 Unfortunately for two of the dealerships I test rode the Tracer first and was convinced it was the one half way through the demo ride. Other two tests got cancelled.
  13. That is eye-watering, and is that what you expected for London? i have about 18,000 miles on mine just now and have arranged for a local repair shop to check and adjust the valve clearances ad the end of the riding season. Andy the owner of the shop is happy for me to strip as much off the bike as possible and then wheel the bike the two hundred yards round to his workshop. was quoted £150-£200 for valve check and adjust.
  14. That does look like a proper Faff, definitely easier on the previous models.
  15. Looks lovely, Just a pity you have to cover most of it with a number plate.
  16. I picked up a similar one for My Tracer a couple of years ago. Fitted easily and works well enough. It has a slight bend on the mounting plate that I don't see on the picture of your item.
  17. "Bummer, I missed out on the ride to work day because I'm retired. If I had realised I would have got up early and rode to my previous place of employment, parked at the gate and with a big smile on my face waved at all my ex colleagues as they arrived at work then made off on a lovely day ride. Maybe next year.
  18. So, with that in mind would a good quality after market chain and sprocket set fix the gronk
  19. Hi, You can change modes when you are moving but it must be done on a closed throttle. So throttle off, hit the small mode button with your right thumb and hold on tight if you go to "A" mode. Enjoyment guaranteed. Don,t know how it actually works but more important that it does.
  20. I do like the slimmed down look of your bike with the smaller screen and lack of hand guards. I was thinking of doing something similar later this year to see how the smaller screen feels. My bike is set up more for touring just now and it'll stay like that until our week's trip to Ireland in May. I had also thought about a suspension upgrade but after I set the sag and fiddled a bit with the settings i haven't had any issues with the standard setup. The clutch should be an easy fix and then you can get out properly and enjoy your bike.
  21. I'm all for personalisation and making the bike yours. One of the things I liked about the Tracer compared to my previous bikes was the low slung exhaust and how it didn't get in the way of panniers and loading the bike. My riding buddy put a black widow system on his GT 900 and it did sound awesome, Even from half a mile away through the intercoms, we always knew when he was catching us up. but he got fed up of the noise after a few weeks and reverted back to standard. Can't help with info on high level exhaust but would like to see pictures when you have the bike the way you want it.
  22. You usually just pull it into the height and angle you want. It will indent into various positions.
  23. Out on the bike for the first time this year. Only a quick blast to the MOT station for the annual inspection. Started with bike's temperature gauge showing 1 degree C that rose to an almost Balmy 6 Degree C when I got back. Bike passed inspection as expected with an advisory on the front tire close to the limit. One step closer to this seasons motorcycling Nirvana. Just got to give the Government it's road tax for this year to be all legal. (picture of last years stop for an MOT which would have looked just like today's but with a bit more rubber.
  24. Too true, I'd only had My tracer two weeks when I went on a trip with My two friends. First campsite My friend plugged a small camping air bed compressor into the socket on his 900 gt and blew the fuse. Not learning from this we plugged it into my bike and funnily enough and possibly expecting a different result blew the fuse on mine as well.
  25. I was thinking of installing something like that, tires have done over 7,000 miles so will probably getting new tires sometime this year, probably pick up angled stems then.
