Hi BigB. Good to see you here as well. Thanks to friend of mine who got GT a year ago and partially you too I got FJ09. But about engine guards - in my opinion they protect bike very well, are heavy (which I don't mind since I have 45 HP more than on my Wee3) and seems very solid. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go for it.

I think you might be right on that but at the same time I'm wondering if all of you guys having chain issues had a chain adjusted to Yamaha specs (5-15mm free play)?!!! I very rarely clean the chain but lubricate it every 500-600km. On my 2017 V Strom 650 I have 50000km (30000miles) on original chain and it still looks and works pretty good. I personally know another V Strom owner that never cleans the chain but lubricates it on every fill up and after riding in a rain. He gets 70000-80000km (50000miles) out of the chain. No, it is not a misprint.

Did oil change and and the oil filter replacement. After that I started to finish heated grips installation but before I completed it got a big package in front of the door. Inside the box Heed engine guards, headlights guards and GPS mounting bar. Nice surprise since I was expecting it to arrive 2 days later. Without any hesitation I installed everything. Bike looking even better now and definitely more protected.

Just installed them on my 2017. Heavy duty stuff must say.

I have Vstreem sport-touring (medium height) installed with adjustable lip and it works pretty good for me.

pretty ugly if you ask me.
