Luma46
On my previous two bikes (Africa Twin, BMW 1200RT) and some before that, I used to mount the bike by stepping on left foot peg and thus easily swinging my right leg over the bike. I am 72, so my body flexibility is not any more what it used to be. Looking at the side stand and foot peg attachement on GT, I am not sure if either are sturdy enough to use this method. Couldn't see any comment on this in manual. Any consensus here on this mounting method?
BBB
Some people have reported that its fine to mount the FJ, and therefore presumably the 900GT in the way you describe. Probably not advisable with lots of luggage mounted though. Red 2015 Tracer, UK spec (well, it was until I started messing with it...)
magnatic
I'm "inseam challenged" so the dealer informed me that the "stirrup method" is the best way for me to mount the bike. I've purchased a side stand footprint enlarger to increase stability during the mount. bowlin01
I've had my GT since May 2018 and I've always mounted it in the way you describe, only had one mishap when my foot slipped off of the metal footpeg in really wet conditions. (Must get around to fitting the rubber topped ones).
Premium Member motopumps Posted February 18, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted February 18, 2019 I too have always mounted my ADV and touring bikes by stepping on the left peg first. Never had an issue with the side stand on any of the bikes. I have been riding since 1979... Rob
fjrpittsburgh
Turning the front wheel all the way to the right makes the Tracer GT easier to mount.
edgarjessop12
Thank god it is not only me, I am 72 and struggle a bit. Hahaha.
salemons
Same issue. I'm only 69 but my flexibility is already decreasing. Must be aging early.
racer
I'm right there with you guys, 72 and have two titanium hips replacements. Never had a problem mounting this way, however, a few AT owners report bending the side stand using this procedure. Racer
