  1. 10% ethanol is still 10% regardless of octane rating. I usually use premium (91 octane here) Shell, Chevron or Exxon and the pump usually advertises detergents or cleaning agents. In the cold months when I ride less and the bike sits more often, I use Non-Ethanol or E0 but its always a no-name brand fuel and there is never any mention of additives or cleaning agents, though I have no clue whether those detergents actually do anything for carbon build-up.
  2. In recent months my 2015 FJ had starting holding at 2500rpm when coming to a stop about 3-4 times during every ride but would usually drop to normal idle after 10 seconds. After reading about this procedure, I tried it this morning and went for a ride for several hours, I was happy to discover that the high idle didn't occur once today. 👍🏻
  3. Yes, KFG Motorsports was my go-to suspension shop for many years, they did phenomenal work. Sadly, it looks like I will need to go out of state now.
  4. With Norwest Suspension no longer available the choices are getting slimmer, I guess my nearest option is EDR Performance.
  5. I am in the exact same situation in Western Washington, the shop that I have used for many years has gone out of business and this year my suspension is due for servicing. - I usually get mine serviced every 20,000 miles. @oregonian -my local Yamaha shop also recommended EDR Performance, I will give them a call. I hate the thought of mailing my suspension but the place I used in the past was only about 30 minutes away, EDR performance is a 3 hour drive each away depending on Portland traffic. Another option is Norwest Suspension in Idaho. https://www.norwestsuspension.com/
  6. My buddy just got the same ‘22 model in Oregon for that price OTD. Oregon doesn’t have a state sales tax so $12,000 was the final price.
  7. While it must be torture not to be able to ride your new bike, the good news (sort of) is you have all winter ahead of you to heal up and eventually wrench on the bike a bit before the 2024 riding season.
  8. That's really interesting, I have had the Penske 8983 shock on 2 different bikes, current FJ09 and previous FZ1 and the remote wasn't offered as an option and I had both shocks custom built. That's great that they now offer that as an option, the Penske is an AWESOME shock. ***EDIT*** Looking at Penske's own website, the 8983 does NOT offer remote Preload adjustment, it has a remote canister to separate the nitrogen from the oil but the preload adjustment is manual with an adjustment tool.
  9. FWIW, the Penske and K-Tech shocks offer ride height adjustment but no remote preload adjuster while the Ohlins and Hyperpro shocks offer remote preload adjustment but no ride height adjustment. Nitron shocks are available with BOTH.
  10. Most of the popular aftermarket risers are 1" up and 1" back and the cables will fit fine but if you are expecting to add an additional 3" of height you might be pushing your luck with the stock cables.
  11. I agree with this 100%. 120hp/75lbft torque would be perfect for me in any normal everyday riding scenario that I could imagine. Every review you read or watch nowadays always reference a bike “not measuring up” to the latest super bike or “only making xxxHp” if it’s anything less than 190. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  12. Agreed, of all of the footage I have seen from EICMA, this bike seems to be generating the most buzz. I have a feeling that this new GX might steal a lot of sales from their own GT model.
  13. The GSX-S1000GT+ could have (should have) arrived with more features since it is marketed as a sport tourer but both the GT+ and GX+ have cruise control, the new GX+ does indeed have an IMU with all of the cornering/safety technology. This video goes into detail on ALL of the features on the new GX+.
  14. Not on the GT but its available on the GX+ According to the Suzuki website, both the side bags and centerstand come standard on the new GX+ Heated grips are still an optional purchase.
  15. I personally like this much better than the GT model. Better riding position and less body panels and (subjectively) nicer looking. https://www.cycleworld.com/bikes/suzuki-gsx-s1000gx-first-look/
  16. If the insurance company is willing to give you a settlement check, I see no reason to put time, effort and money into refurbishing it and still have a salvage title, take the money and leave the headache behind. If you are still injured, you have all winter to heal up and 'window shop' on the internet.
  17. I am not sure of the charging output but I use my heated vest controller via the SAE cable direct to the battery. I also use the factory heated grips and wired in accessory Denali DRL lights, Garmin GPS, battery voltmeter and USB charger without issue.
  18. With the first Gen FJ a suspension upgrade is an enormous improvement, the best money you will ever spend on the bike.
  19. Just curious, if you are wanting to upgrade the shock, why are you considering a Tracer shock? The only difference I can think of between an FJ shock and a Tracer shock is the remote preload adjuster, the spring and damping will be just as basic between the two.
  20. Are you absolutely sure that the battery came out of the bike in that orientation and didn't get flipped around? I say that because if you rotate the battery 180 degrees and then lay it over on its right side, the battery terminals will then be in the correct orientation with positive on top. There have been many post of owners here and on the FZ/MT09 forum getting it backward and bike always blows a main fuse if the terminals are reversed.
  21. Agreed, I read the NT1100 forum as well and the bike has its share of "kinks". As refined as the Africa Twin is, it also has its share of quirks and imperfections, though having owned (myself and immediate family currently own 4 Honda motorcycles) numerous Honda vehicles and products since I was a kid, 'overall' they are damn reliable.
  22. The Western portion of WA20 was closed for quite some time this year due to a massive wildfire, My brother and I rode the Eastern portion into Idaho and then continued to Missoula and Lolo Pass, very beautiful ride but unfortunately WA20 is another route that has snow closures for half of the year.
  23. Last week we had a few days of exceptional weather so I had to get one last ride on Cayuse and Chinook Passes for the season before they close due to snow. The timing was perfect as this area just got about half a foot of snow in the past 36 hours, once the passes close for the season they are snowed in until about Memorial day. I was finally able to reach 80,000 miles! If I didn't split riding time with my VFR the FJ would be at just over 95,000 miles.
  24. With the Tracer being the exception, its a shame that you can't get a "full spec" Japanese bike unless its 1,000cc or larger. I would love to see optional top-spec models available for 650-900cc bikes like Versys, V-strom, Hornet, Transalp, Z900, Tracer 700, GSX 8S etc.
