  1. Montgomery Cycle Center??? I have a 1981 Yamaha QT50 still that my dad bought new there for my sister for college. That never panned out, but I rode the snot out of it, and I converted it recently to a 60CC, different gearing, etc. Still runs great today. Where's maximNikenGT?? 🤣
  2. Here is Norm's contact info and part of the e-mail he sent me. I didn't want to put it out without his permission. Send an email to Norm Kern. nkern@kernvideo.com, subject: Union Bolt Modification. "I currently only have one union bolt left. I need to order about 20 at a time to avoid getting killed on shipping. If the parts house doesn't have that many in stock, there can be a delay and with COVID, who knows. We'll see!"
  3. What tire pressures are you running? I've got 42 rear and took the front from 36 to 42 and it got much lighter. going to drop it down and try 38. OEM tires.
  4. Raise it to 5mm, try it, take it to 10mm. Mine is at 10mm, remember my wheelbase/swingarm is shorter than yours.
  5. Fix for leaking oil filters - Yamaha FJR Forum : Yamaha FJR Owners Forums If you want to use aftermarket oil filters, you need this modification... MY reason is for a one time mod. I can use any filter I want. Plus I have 4 Bosch 3300 filters left from my previous bikes. I understand the FB thing, I'm using my wife's to look at it.
  6. Sorry, that's all Norm gave me. He said he doesn't need the income, just making these for enthusiasts. Could become a member at the FJR1300 forum.
  7. Weight masks bad fuelling. The FJ is very light and very powerful for being that light weight.
  8. Just received and installed my modded union bolt today. Easy to do and now the Bosch 3300 tightens correctly. I'm happy!
  9. Should be able to get out and ride, won't have to stop and use the bathroom.🤣 I may be wrong, range to empty was on my ST1300. Old habits, I did ride that thing for 12 years.
  10. I'm saying no unified braking, yes on tip over sensor..it's right at the rear gas tank bolts, yes on estimated travel range. And thank you from your 12 hour throne.
  11. Do the oil drain bolt mod. very important. Read the whole garage section and do those mods.
  12. Once my bikes went to FI, I never had a problem. Carb. bikes, ESPECIALLY singles, I could have problems in a couple weeks. E0 and Startron worked for me in them.
  13. And it all gets thrown out the window when the lawyers get involved. That axle bolt will be fine at 60, maybe even 40 lb. ft.
  14. Welcome! I think you're the closest to me yet. I'm near Halifax, just got my 2015 Sept 9th. Only had 1k miles on it. I tripled that already. I recommend the Ebay rubber covered foot pegs. They are wider and longer. Mirror extenders also. Got to cut the divider in the tray under the seat. Updated clutch cable. I put softer grips on. Mine came with a V Stream sport windshield so I don't know if it's good or not. I always wear earplugs so noise isn't a problem. I'm doing an ECU flash, handlebars, TB sync., and changing all fluids over the winter. The seat....It does wear on the rear. Check the thread on leveling the seat, I did it and it and an Airhawk and I'm decently good. I thought I got mine late in the season. Snow will be flying soon.
  15. My bike came used with a V Stream Sport.....I got nothing.
  16. Michelin move production to Thailand??? This is UNSAT for one of or the most expensive tire out there.
  17. Welcome! I'm in PA also. I used to ride when it's that cold, the older I get the warmer it has to be. For the noise, Do you use earplugs?
  18. Looks like an attempt at lowers to keep wind off the legs. Maybe the looks will grow on me. Some bikes have been like that in the past for me.
  19. Another vote for Dupont Chain Saver. Can buy it a Walmart. I spray it on heavy right after a ride, before it's parked for the night. At least every tank of gas. I don't even wipe it off. I don't clean at all, the lube does it. We'll see if I get 20K miles for the OEM chain instead of the 10 most have got here.
  20. This is what I'd do. Remove the tire and all weights, balance the bare rim and find the heavy spot. It's never been at the valve stem for me. Mark that spot with a Sharpie on the inside of the rim, it will never change. Hopefully you can still see the light spot paint mark on the tire. Line that up with the heavy spot on the rim and balance and see what you get. I'm having a hard time coming up with an amount that is too much weight but the front # will be less than the rear. 70 grams is a lot for a front. 110 grams is too much for either wheel.
  21. I LIKE it. Can you elaborate on the valve checks/adjustments? What they were each time?
  22. For Bosch, Purolator, and some others see this thread. My cut down union bolt is being delivered. My bosch 3300 filters currently work and seal but barely. They bottom out on that bolt. Can't beat RockAuto for price on oil filters.
  23. wow! are you sure his tire lever isn't in there? Per the manual there is a limit on the amount of weight you can run on a rim. Might be in my ST1300 manual, now gone. I think it was 60 grams per wheel. That tire shouldn't have left the factory.
  24. I'm posting this here since many have had problems in the past but it's posted in various areas of the forum. If you want to mount any filter from this list: https://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterXRef.html You have to do this mod due to the changes that have been made recently (5 years) to a lot of these filters. Norm is on the FJR forum and has given me permission to post this here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10206955071372861&type=3 He modifies union bolts and sells them for $30 delivered so all filters can be used. 27 mm socket (or 1 1/16) is all you need. Updated contact info: Send an email to Norm Kern. nkern@kernvideo.com, subject: Union Bolt Modification.
  25. Late to this. It is the Bosch 3300. I've got a few left, I was using them on my ST1300 and FZ-07. Fit the FJ-09 now too!👍 I will say that chart is really old, and even though the fitment is correct, the quality of some filters isn't what it used to be. Walmarts Super Tech has changed and is no longer good. Purolator had also changed, they are one that also threads on, then bottoms and leaks. Unless they changed them again. Oil filters are ever evolving, usually going downhill in quality, to save a buck.😠
