  1. Just got an email from Nels a couple days ago. He stated the foam delete is only good for 1-2 hp at near max rpm. I'm probably going to leave mine alone. I already paid for my flash, probably going to wait till riding season is over to send it in.
  2. Just did it too! Great mod! what a waste of space up there!
  3. Welcome! Congrats on the Tracer! I'm new here also. I know all about the "as I get older this bikes getting too heavy." Mine was a 2006 Honda ST1300 Great bike, just getting too heavy.
  4. There have been various makes and models through the years that called for a valve check at 600 miles. Pissed people off with a $400 bill at 600 miles. Now here we have FZ07, FZ09, FJ09, etc. that calls for no valve check till ~24k miles. So of course nobody checks till then so we don't know what happened when.
  5. Get these: 6 in. Digital Caliper 6 in. Digital Caliper $15 and MORE than accurate enough. Adjust away!
  6. I think we need to add if you tuned your ECU to the poll. Im wondering if running too lean (hot) is eroding exhaust valves and seats.
  7. apparently normal for Yamaha. I've found if your patient yoy can get more fuel in. Get it over the holes, it drops below, put in more, etc. for several cycles. can get up to half a gallon more. Dont try with a kalli. bike with a charcoal canister. also don't try if you will just park it and let it sit. Just when you're going to ride.
  8. This whole valve check thing might be marketing. It sells more bikes when you see "no valve checks needed till 24k miles. There have been many bikes that needed a valve check at the 600 mile maint. check and people complained, and less of these bikes sold. It's now looking like the clearances ARE tightening up WELL before 24k miles. During this time your warranty has expired and you have no leg to stand on. My last 2 Honda's (CBR1100XX and ST1300) had 16k as the first valve check. I checked the XX 3 times and the valves never changed in 85k miles. The ST I checked twice no change in 65k miles. All in spec. I'm wondering if there is less care on the Yamaha line and the valve clearances aren't correct from production. I also wonder if the new emissions regs. are causing lean running on the ragged edge making the valves too hot and causing all these problems. I already paid for my 2WDW ECU reflash and I will be checking my valves early. Haven't decided how early yet. Might even go with 10k miles.
  9. Just got back from a blast on the highway. 2015 FJ no bags, no hand protectors. got to 108 MPH indicated, best I could do, lots of traffic and 18 wheelers. Light steering but not shaky, twitchy, or wobbly.
  10. cool, I geuss I'm good for a ride today! Humidity is low, temps cool, got to go!
  11. When I said about the rattle, I meant did the used bike place I got it from play with the CCT to get rid of a rattle and now it's too tight and whines. I'm barely capable of posting pictures. A video...Never done it. I'm an old school mechanic not an ITT tech.
  12. It's definitely a whine noise. I am familiar with the manual APE tensioners and the whine when too tight, I just don't know if the whine I'm hearing on my bike is normal or not.
  13. Since I'm the A+ anal type and it HAS to be right I ordered an APE PRO $89.95 delivered. Still don't know if I can ride till I get it. Am I too paranoid?
  14. Not knowing the history of it, is it possible to install it wrong or adjust it wrong, maybe in an attempt to silence the rattle? In doing that can it push too hard on the chain slider?
  15. So mine seems (to me) to have the opposite problem of too loose. Only has 1100 miles. Had the recall done, on it's second tensioner per me doing VIN check. On cold start up there is a whine at the right side that only gets a little better when warm. Can the OEM CCT push too hard on the chain slider? Will it do damage? can I ride it? Do I have to park it till I order an APE manual tensioner? If so which tensioner. A lot of brands out there. No warantee from where I got it or anywhere. I want to ride!
  16. Read this whole thread, (knew about the problem, bought a 2015 FJ anyway 😜) and I'm wondering why the FZ07 has not one issue of this. Granted it started with the drain on the front but has all the other problems. It has the weakest suspension, low ground clearance, pan right up front, etc. Any ideas? I wanted to wait till winter to mod my pan and ride all fall but now I wonder. I cased my ST1300 hard on a medium curb once, just scratched the oil pan. Different design. It's a flat piece of aluminum instead of a large cast box.
  17. Try the easy, cheap things first. Always. carefully peel back the 2 rubber covers on the shift rod. Clean and relube. pull the shift lever at the same time and lube that pivot. Lube or replace clutch cable. Lube clutch lever pivot. How long since last oil change? Try a different oil? thinking... got to look at dates on posts.
  18. I think Yamaha has crazy tourqe specs for a LOT of it's bolts. BIG problem on FZ07 forum with axle nuts. First thing I do is remove that nut and grease the axle threads then tourqe to about 70 lb. ft. Never any problems. 108 is crazy even dry. Of course you will strip and gall threads. Sprocket nuts are another. I no longer just blindly take a given spec. as gospel. Some times these things are dictated by company lawyers.
  19. Wow, an oil thread. Its like I never left the FZ07 and ST1300 forums. I used various diesel oils, other oils, etc. Anything but "motorcycle oil" to save $$. This year and from now on I'm using Castrol Actevo 10-40. Cheapest place is ordered through Walmart delivered to my house for $23 a gallon. I order 2 at a time. Passes ALL specs., and shifts great.
  20. Just saw the post about the foam and putting the YTZ14S battery in there. Same battery my ST1300 had. I've got some battery in there now I've never heard of. When it dies I'll be putting in the bigger one.
  21. This has to be the smallest battery I've seen on an almost liter class bike. Even with constant Tendering, I'm not expecting a long life.
  22. mine is already gone from previous owner on 2015 I just got.
  23. So how many revisions has the CCT gone through? The bike I just bought had a CCT recall done. If it's 2 then I'm good? It's currently quiet, but then it's a 2015 with only 1100 miles.
  24. It's official, I'm now part of the tribe! Traded both bikes for a gray 2015 FJ09! I had the shop firm up the suspension before my test ride and it was great! This bike is literally brand new, 1100 miles, the ONLY blemish is a tiny mar in the plastic over the tank. Going to be hard to match that paint. I will be doing a 2WDW flash on it, but that probably will be it for now. It already has a dark tint windshield on it. Love the engine power, suspension, handling, cornering, roominess, (I put the seat at the high setting, I'm 6 ft 2 in.) and braking. This is my first ABS/TCS bike. WOW! I found some deep pea gravel and just hammered both brakes and it was impressive!
  25. That much airloss you should be able to hear it. For on the bike mix a little Dawn into a spray bottle and work your way around slowly spraying tread, sidewalls, rim, (might be pourous or cracked), and valve stem including inside. Look for the bubbles. +1 don't let that shop even set your clock. SAD.🤐
