Sunde
Going to see if i can make a deal tomorrow, i'll try go get them to add in the heated grips and quickshifter, basically all i'll be lacking from the GT spec will be suspension and panniers, and those i plan to deal with as i get the funds Fingers crossed! I am very very fond of my VFR, and wont let it go if i cant make a good deal out of it, so time will tell. Mostly red ones which didn't appeal to me. Is yours the DCT version? Rob

I have always liked the big VFR, I test rode the 1200X (or Crosstourer) with DCT, VERY nice bike and for its weight the suspension was really nice and I was surprised how well it handled. Honda knows how to centralize the mass and hide the weight. 1 ***2015 Candy Red FJ-09***
Premium Member DavidS Posted January 27, 2022 Premium Member Share Posted January 27, 2022 Just my opinion, having owned the FJ09 and the Tracer, but the FJ09 versions were a lot more hooligan in nature than the Tracer is now. Longer swing arm in the GT creates stability, but makes it harder for the front wheel to lift off. I miss that, but the other side is all the standard features you get on the GT which really should have been included on the FJ09. (but obviously would have increased the cost) If I had an older FJ09, I would keep it and upgrade the bits you want. I did have to sort through this process when I had to replace my FJ09 due to my accident. I miss some bits of the old FJ09, but I'm also very happy with my Tracer 900 GT. 3

To achieve this Yamaha increased the capacity from 847cc to 889cc and the horsepower increases marginally, though in the real world you wouldn’t notice. There is a risk that European governments will implement Euro 5 only areas in cities which would be a PITA as Yamaha and bike dealers have always said that the 2019-20 models could easily meet Euro 5 standards but were never certified as it wasn’t an industry requirement. Increased peak HP in the new engine isn't noticable in daily riding but peak torque being more and coming online 1500RPM earlier in the rev range is VERY noticeable around town esp with a passenger and/or luggage. Also, the new Tracer 9s have a revised subframe with higher rated payload capacity which is worth considering between the two generations when making a purchase.
Sunde
Short update: They will pick up my VFR and MT03 660 next tuesday I will pick up the Tracer come march with a Yamaha quickshifter / heated grips / panniers installed Hyped! It seems like a great shop, so i feel relativly good about them fitting these extras properly. Should be basically plug and play with the QS/Heated grips, right? 1

It is not the DCT, i really like the transmission on the VFR especially with the slipper clutch, super slick to operate, i'd go as far as to say its probably going to be the best shifting experience i'll ever have on a motorcycle. Little side question regarding TC/heated grips on the T9 The heated grips are controlled in the software on the bike right? I wonder how it works when the grips were not installed from the factory, but plugged in later on (by the dealer) Does the bike automatically "understand" that the grips are now installed? Same deal with the quick shifter really. I keep worrying about the fact that i may get "worse" function from the quick shifter / grips because they were not put on originally. They are the Yamaha original parts... There is 0 reason to think this, right? Edited January 30, 2022 by Sunde
Great Gonzo
I’ve installed genuine Yamaha grips to my 2021 Tracer 900 and can confirm that it’s all controlled from the bikes software. works like a dream and very easy to install if you need to it yourself at a later date. gonz.

The bike is already programmed for the operation of those accessories and recognizes that those items are installed (if genuine Yamaha accessory items) -skip
Sunde
Deal is done! I will have the bike next week probably. Very pleased with how the trade went, however annoyed that my dealer was unable to fit heated grips, apparently Yamaha has prevented the purchase of these (at least in Denmark) due to a number of issues. He cant tell me when i will be able to buy them even O.o 2

I am pretty stoked haha Just got off the phone with one of the major Yamaha stores in DK (TINY store compared to what you see elsewhere but still they knew more than my tiny local shop) Apparently they'v been ordered by Yamaha DK not to sell anymore as they were deemed to be of "sup par quality" New ones of i assume better quality should be in by the end of Q1 2022 Little mystified but alas, i'd rather not go aftermarket if i can avoid it. Hmm...one would think that the OEM parts they sell separately would be the same as the ones that get installed at the factory on the GTs. Maybe Yamaha got desperate and went with a different manufacturer due to #supplychainissues Or, as mentioned above - we will all be discovering the sub-par-ness of the heated grips. 😕 Regardless, new bike day is coming!!! 🙂
