Posted May 4, 20187 yr Will flashing my ECU have any affect on my warranty, service and maintenance at the dealer? My FJ09 has > 800 KM so I think I have a service coming soon. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
May 4, 20187 yr Author The fueling at low rpm is never steady. It's lumpy as heck. Up down up down up down up down. And the on/off throttle is still a bit jerky. I thought flashing smoothed things out and improved things in a lot of ways regardless of year? Aren't there other improvements to flashing my bike even if it is a 2017? If there are warranty issues for flashing....What if I used a Power Commander V instead ? If I needed warranty service, can I just remove the Power Commander V when I take it to the dealer? 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
May 4, 20187 yr Author Not a bumpy road. It's something that happens on completely flat roads. Won't a flash allow adding quick shifting? Remove speed limiter? So not many people get their 2017's flashed unless they do a modification like exhaust? Maybe I should ask in another post about people flashing their 2017's. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
May 4, 20187 yr Community Expert PC V includes what called an O2 optimizer, which tricks the ecm into staying in open loop, smoothing out the part throttle “jerkiness” some people experience. Kev’s add-on will do the same thing. Have you checked your chain tension? These are also classic symptoms of a bad tight spot in a drive chain. How many miles on your bike? “They” can’t deny warranty coverage unless they can PROVE the ecm flash caused a failure. I wouldn’t sweat it. It’s a Yamaha after all and they rarely break. -Skip
May 4, 20187 yr I agree with @skipperT the chain slack can help. I also found that taking all (or most) free play out of the throttle cable helped.. After my ECU flash I stopped thinking about it. '15 FJ-09 w/ lots of extras... Fayetteville, GA, USA
May 4, 20187 yr Author Good ideas. I will look into Kev's add-on. I can ask about the lumpy throttle and see what they say. It's not the chain and I have adjusted the throttle cables. I will pay attention to when exactly it happens. It could be a vacuum leak for all I know. Installing a Yoshimura Exhaust so I will wait until that is on and go from there in terms of flashing. I may try a locally available PCV in the meantime. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
May 4, 20187 yr since your going back to the dealership, have em help you set the APS, dropping the value from "17"( this seems to be the norm) to "13-11" depending on personal preference... its an electronic throttle... super on point compared to the reg ole cable systems... lumpy throttle- this motor loves to spin rpms... cruising around in 6th gear at 30mph is a very low rpm compared to my preference of 2nd gear at 30mph which( 1st gear is mainly ignored by me unless im at the drag strip)... 2012 wr250f - C-class 30+ age group 2015 fz-07- Hordpower Edition-80whp 2015 fj-09- Graves Exhaust w/Woolich tune by 2WDW @120whp
May 5, 20187 yr Community Expert lumpy throttle- this motor loves to spin rpms... cruising around in 6th gear at 30mph is a very low rpm compared to my preference of 2nd gear at 30mph which( 1st gear is mainly ignored by me unless im at the drag strip)... ^absolutely^ keep the rpms up and this motor feels absolutely "alive". I like to keep it above 4k during normal around town riding, and above 7k when in the "fun zone". I have frequently caught myself ripping through some back roads at 80mph and realize I'm still in 3rd gear... ***2015 Candy Red FJ-09***
May 5, 20187 yr I have a 2017 and had ECU flashed. Still surges at super low speed (5-10mph) putzing around a parking lot or something. Not sure what it's all about. It is a little annoying I guess but I think I adapted by using the clutch to smooth it out because I only notice it when I'm using one hand.
