  1. I pulled the cams and the two exhaust tappets on cylinder #1, I dont think the shims stayed seated on reassembly. I Re-set the shims with lubriplate to help them stay inplace again and carefully installed the tappets. Ive been using a telescopic magnet to keep the shim inline and to help slide the tappet into place. I reinstalled the cams and cct, turned the crank to TDC#1, checked the clearance again. This time the left exhaust tappet is on target but the right is still too tight for any feeler gauge. Maybe what is happening is when I pull the magnet off of the tappet the shim slides out of place? I was careful to pull it off straight but damn this job is eating up all of my free time. The cct removal/install is by far most time consuming part of this job.
  2. The reason the bolts are rusting is due to galvanic corrosion, carbon steel and aluminum dont mate well. You could replace them with stainless steel (good luck finding bolts that size in stainless) or clean them up like you did and apply a liberal coating of antisieze.
  3. Or you could take your header to a welding shop and get it repaired in less time than you've spent on this forum whining about it.
  4. YOSHIMURA FJ09 Y-SERIES FULL EXHAUST SYSTEMS QUICK SHIP! 2SC-E46D0-V0-00 YOSHIMURA FJ09 Y-SERIES FULL... If anyone is looking to buy one of these I found one located in Reno on Ebay and the seller is accepting offers. I put in a lowball offer of $600 and the seller said he would do $799 plus free US shipping. Its was installed on a display so its basiclly new. I think its a nice looking system but no shipping option to Canada so im gonna pass on this.
  5. Quick question... kind of a head scratcher on my end. I changed the exhaust shims and after I rechecked the clearance I found I now have 0mm clearance on cyclinder 1 exhaust valves and left intake valve but cylinder 2 and 3 are right on target. Im guessing the problem is the shims did not stay seated when I installed the tappets? Any ideas??🤔
  6. I use lemon pledge, its cheap and can be purchased everywhere. Spray it on and let it soak in for a minute or two. Try to clean the bug guts off after each ride instead of letting them dry on over night.
  7. All exhaust valves were tight on my 2015 @ 42000kms. Intake valves were all in spec. #1 Intake: L 0.165mm R 0.165 Exhaust: L 0.165mm R 0.216mm #2 Intake: L 0.152mm R 0.152mm Exhaust: L 0.140mm R 0.178mm #3 Intake: L 0.152mm R 0.140mm Exhaust: L 0.140mm R 0.140mm
  8. I checked my valve clearance today at 41900 kms (26K miles). Every exhaust valve is too tight. Should be between 0.0102" - 0.0118". All intake valves were in spec. #1 Intake: L 0.007" R 0.007" Exhaust: L 0.007" R 0.009" #2 Intake: L 0.006" R 0.006" Exhaust: L 0.005" R 0.007" #3 Intake: L 0.006" R 0.005" Exhaust: L 0.005" R 0.005" Also i was surprised to find Yamaha wasnt using iridium spark plugs from factory... even my bargain bin 650r Ninja came with iridium plugs stock. Now i need to take the camshafts off and reshim. Not sure where to buy shims at?? The dealer?
  9. So what did do with your TKC80s after you swapped them out? Shipped them home?
  10. Congrats! Great to see another FJ-09 make it to Tuk!😎
  11. Yeah the high beam is on in that photo, the engine was running.
  12. Thank you. This light bar is wired to the one of the spare leads under the dash so its key on power and always running.
  13. I added a CosmoMoto Accessories light bar, Custom Dynamics licence plate bolt LEDs that activate with the brakes, and rolled the odo to 40000kms
  14. Anyone else seeing photos of the "MT-10 Tracer" popping up across the web? It looks.... beefy.
  15. MT-09 – Moto Animals MOTOANIMALS.COM Im waiting patiently for Moto Animals to make a Tracer design... 🤞
  16. Im tempted to make a pilgrimage to Aerostich this year and get a custom fitted suit. Its a short 10hr ride. (12 if i dont speed).
  17. Its in the forum menu (three horizonal lines) at the bottom of the list you'll see "Member Map".
  18. Front fender extender? You have piqued my curiosity. I tried cutting my stock screen down and it was ok but the mra touring screen I'm running now is much better. I believe other people have had success with cutting down their screens. Since you're on a 2015 an ecu flash is a must, and like mentioned fix your oil plug as well. Other than that get your suspension dialed in, one of the few glaring shortcomings on this bike. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/fenda-extenda-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09 @suitedsevens One of these. They help a bit to keep road gunk off your rad and pipes. The 3M adhesive strip included sucks so I mount mine with windshield adhesive.
  19. The FJ-09 is pretty good stock. Other then changing the windscreen I'd install a front fender extender and radiator guard as bare minimum things to do. I'm a big fan of heated grips too but that depends on the temps you'll ride in. Also since yours is a 2015 you may want to address that oil pan drain plug that can be sheared off from going over a speed bump.
  20. Historical marker. The story of Old Wives Lake.
  21. John, Ive long since ran out of the blue scottoiler oil. What would you recommend as a replacement?
