  1. I've owned a V65 Sabre, Blackbird, and ST1300. Sabre was screw and lock nut. Easy peasy. Blackbird (85k miles) and ST (65k miles) never needed adjustment whole time I owned them. I checked myself every 16k miles. This Yamaha doesn't follow Honda that way. Not sure why. Running too hot (lean), inferior metals, IDK. I'd look at the valves no later then 16k miles. If good no problem. If you wait till the recommended 26.5 k miles it will be too late. You can already have burned exhaust valves. Another thing...an engine with no clearance will be perfectly quiet. You can't listen for a valve check.
  2. You didn't put the battery in backwards did you? If you put it top up, you will cross - and +. A fairly common mistake.
  3. That sucks. miles on bike and maint. done?
  4. I love my SH23 bags. They hold more then you think. I've come out of Wally World many times going oh no, this will never fit...and it does. They're slender, look great, and don't overpower the looks of the bike. I did remove all stickers, way too much. Also, make sure you lock them or past 80 mph they open and all your stuff will leave. Air will suck them open then clean.
  5. I've wondered that even with cages. That auto braking thing, where does it draw the line??? Car, motorcycle, dog, cat, squirrel, grasshopper, gnat,??? Can't trust the tech.
  6. OK. I can tell you what I think, you can tell me what you think. You can't tell me what to think. It's that simple. This isn't the correct section to get so arguemntive. Chill.
  7. You should unwind your torque wrench to zero as soon as you are done using it for storage.
  8. How's the starting cold and hot? I'm wondering about a full TB clean, especially the idle control circuits.
  9. Good to hear it's mostly almost there. I'll have to think on what the idle problem might be.
  10. Wonder if she's with him this year. If they have to go more then a half hour away she'll never stretch out!
  11. Seems to be worse on some bikes then others. Is the seat cover tighter, pulling the nose up? Wonder if you stretch the cover there, get some slack, if the nose will drop.
  12. Same. I've got worse with age too. Wish I knew that before all the $$$ on seats with 2 bikes.
  13. Eagerly waitng for that weather to get here. Too hot last week and this week so far to ride. Got a light shower today, all that did was jack up the humidity to near 100%! YUCK!
  14. For future diagnostics, to have weird idle problems air leaks have to be down stream from the carbs/TBs. You can remove the airbox, no difference. A leaking boot on the airbox only admits dirt. Make sure sync. ports are capped and no other vac. hoses are leaking.
  15. Jeez, at that price it'll be there forever! Weren't they what $10500 brand new in 17? Seems to be a lot of used 15-18 FJ's flooding the market.
  16. Welcome! Low mileage used the way to go! Let someone else lose $4k.
  17. Glad you're back on your FJ! So what fixed your bike? I know there was something but can't remember. Couldn't find it either.
  18. Where to begin? Here in PA my current score is 1 deer with the car, 1 with the bike. The bike was CBR1100XX. 10 PM coming home from work, deer came from my left, saw me, started going back to the left so smacked my left leg. I didn't go down, thought no damage, Great! Wrong. Got home, front, middle, even tail section plastic all cracked up with deer hair stuck in it. $1k in plastic. ST1300. Vulture eating roadkill. Sees me, takes off, flys right at me! Glances off my fairing, hits me in the head, I don't go down. Had to bend fairing brackets straight again. Have had Turkeys fly just over my head a few times. Regular smorgasbord here in PA. I've got paper pics somewhere of the bike. Long before camera phones. Here's the car. Almost totalled it. Front, hood, rt fender, and both doors.
  19. Sounds like they need a 2WDW flash. Wonder if they're working on one.
