What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
peteinpa replied to yamaham's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
Glad you got out! Does a world of good for mental well being! Just be careful. I won't tell anybody. I get 90 octane E0 as much as I can. Really makes a difference in power and fuel economy. -
Terrible, sad to hear this. Personal decision on whether to ride again. Don't dwell on it now, concentrate on getting better, rehab, and PT.

Just be careful braking. Most strain on arms to shoulders. -

Tempted to paint my FJ red. Just can't be choosy when buying used. Would lower the value though. -
Perfect. Keeps the inspection window nice and clean too!

Yeah, The few ounces of coolant in the oil required to raise the level ARE NOT enough to cause the whole sump to look like a milkshake. Those of you who think you know everything are annoying to those of us that do. JK of course.🙂

Tracer 900 GT vs Tracer 9 GT + consistency theory
peteinpa replied to petshark's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
In all my riding I never had the chance to hop on a different, identical bike. Would be interesting. closest I got was I had a 650 Nighthawk and I traded with a Nighthawk S. I'm closing in on 10k miles on my 2015 FJ09. OEM pads still all around. Just got back from a ride and purposly paid attention to the rear brake. I wouldn't want it more agressive. Clean, dry, textured, pavement and it engages ABS easily. Wouldn't want wet, cold, slick pavement. If you're at low miles, start using that rear more aggressively. It might not have broke in yet. Try removing the pads and sand them, clean the rotor, and break in again. Front brakes are great too. Best I've had yet. -
Forgot about the oil cooler. I'd wait till bike is fully cooled, put on centerstand and remove radiator cap. Check the level there and look for oil contamination there

$3300!😮 You win!

I can't believe my 2015 is perfect in comparison. Took an ECU flash and my adjusting the APS to get there. Rumor has it along with some 30 models, the Gold Wing is extinct all due to emissions regs strangulation.

small magnetic tank bag?? Never had a toll road transponder, never will.
-
Wait a second. In your other post about leaking water pump you said you pulled it and replaced it. Can you do that without changing ANY seals??? Might be where coolant is getting into the oil. How's the coolant bottle level??
-
Get a long zip tie and take an oil sample from the oil fill hole and smell it. You'll know. I check used cars all the time this way, but they have a dip stick. If you pull the plugs look for a super clean one. There is your coolant leak (head gasket). I seriously doubt you have either problem. I suspect the oil doesn't always settle the same at every shut down. EDIT: would help to know where you live (for ambient temp.) How long you ride, etc.

Doesn't happen often here, I'm the local. Ever notice it's NEVER a mini van. While still on the hiway approaching my exit I judge vehicles ahead of me. If I don't like them I pass, even in my car. If not I'll be stuck behind them for 15 miles up and down the mountain with little chance to pass as they go 30 in a 50 mph.

To remove that play while on the center stand put bike in gear and rotate tire to pull chain tight. My way, place round shank screw driver in bottom, rear sprocket/chain interface, roll tire forward till tight.

Handlebars filled with angry hornets?
peteinpa replied to pokey074's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
I got my 15 used with no hand guards, with light aluminum bar ends. Now I'm not bothered by vibes on any bike, this one either. The bend of the bar bothered me. I got a different bar, shortened it, tapped the ends and put on HEAVY bar ends. No problems. I did do a TB sync also. -
Unless your suspension is so loose that the rear sags on the sidestand there is no difference.
-
Seen it. I'm on daily looking, not sure why. Facebook sees more traffic for cheaper/older bikes.
-
The handlebar end weights have to be heavy to work. TB sync can help. Change gearing to lower RPM?

In all my travels I still haven't done this.🤞 No experience in fixing. Sorry. I will say this is the result of the quest for lightness.

Jumpy throttle cable at 30,000 miles
peteinpa replied to bwringer's topic in FJ-09 Known issues and solutions
Been through this: Dri Slide was the only lube that worked for me and I have two of the luber tools and lots of different lubes. I had my throttle body out for the mod to the spring. I still don't know if the cable can be changed with it installed. The frame is RIGHT THERE. Take pics of the routing of the old cable, You must do it exactly the same, especially the relation between the other cable, or there will be trouble. Verify it against the manual also. Mine is also near the end of it's travel. I was surprised there is no adjustment at the TB end. All my Hondas had this. -
What coolant did you go with? was it a concentrate or ready to use? Got to run it to full warm without the cap, then lightly rev the bike to burp it.

I use the Dupont chain lube, get it at Walmart. This stuff is clean, no fling off. At every fuel up at the end of the day (warm chain) I put an old pizza box against the wheel behind the chain and blast away. No mess, get it on the O-rings. 2 minutes tops. 8500 miles so far on OEM chain. 1 adjustment since origional one from too tight when I got it used at 1k miles.
