  1. It flows a lot of air, but that air flow is much cleaner than stock. It not as clean as running with no shield but with a GPS, a radar detector, and dry eyes, I felt like I needed some kind of shield. I run it in the low position as it's a tad quieter. Getting earplugs properly seated is important for volume control. I also found this to be true when running without a shield. Helmet likely plays a role here. Pretty sure that a 5 year old Neotec is not the quietest lid out there. I also have a Madstad that does a much better job of reducing noise but it feels more like a motorcycle with the MRA. How's that for subjective?
  2. Heard about the mount on this forum. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203076846886?hash=item2f4852c526:g:F2cAAOSwSnZeyU6o It's easy to install and and it's a clever design. The plastic feels substantial, so I'm cautiously optimistic about durability. I did add some stainless steel lock washers to the two bolts that secure the mount to the sides of the screen mount assembly. Don't know that they're needed but washers are cheap Only a week and 800 miles in but so far I'm very happy with it. Puts the GPS just where I want it. Screen height is still adjustable albeit a bit awkward when you're on the move, not that I would ever do that. I'll let the pictures tell the rest. FWIW, seat is in low position with an Air Hawk, I'm 5-11, and the screen is in the low position.
  3. Motocheck, I too got a Type 110 and had the same problem. Rather than raising the lockring off the tank, I lowered the ring that attaches to the bag by inserting the drilling template between the ring and the bag. If you didn't throw that away, I think you'll find it to be a cheap solution.
  4. Thanks for that info. The Engage is smaller than I hope for but it is a fall back so it's good to know that it works on the FJ.
  5. I'm looking to upgrade my tank bag to a medium size ring mount. Both my bikes have up and back risers but it looks like the GT will be the tightest fit. Has anyone installed an EVO City tankbag on a GT with up & back handlebar risers? A related question for owners of the City tankbag; what's the width up front? The product description says the bags narrows at the front for bar clearance but offers no further detail. Thanks
  6. Wrenching is a bit intimidating to me. That said, is there a trick to loosening the banjo bolt without introducing air into the system? Thanks
  7. +1 I checked mine and there was no locktite. There is now👌 Thanks for the heads up
  8. I live near Bristol and yes, many our roads are in bad shape. Tough climate. If you did Lincoln Gap, hope you like gravel.
  9. I just tried Kurviger for 3 different destinations in VT and NY originating from my home in VT. The rides were short, i.e. 2-3 hours one way. I thought the routing ranged from only OK to pretty good, but it only took MAYBE a minute. Unsure about how I'd like it for tour planning but this feels like a nice tool for the magic glass slab.
  10. @sirepair Kudos for what looks to be well thought out and well executed. Now that you've got 3 month of use, is there anything you'd do differently? BTW, creative off-label use of that socket.
  11. I've had 4 chain driven bikes in the last decade, so I've adjusted chain slack often. The GT seems different to me though in that the slack before and after torquing the axle nut varies as much as 7 mm. That seems like a lot. Are others seeing this much variance?
  12. I see the screen OK but agree about Basecamp. It's predecessor (Map Source) was way better. I'll give Osmand and Furkot a try. Thanks for the tip
  13. Thanks. I should have read the post rather than just looking at the pictures. Some things never change. When I was 18, I got Playboy only because the articles were so good.
  14. What's the purpose of the unused hole in the silver brackets?
  15. Well played. I can only imagine your chicken strips at day's end.
  16. I confess; I have tested. Pulling out of a muddy drive and turning onto the road. Boom! The crash bar got trashed in the skid. Turn signal knocked off but was able to remount and the scratches are not obvious. Scratches on the hand grip protector and the shiny side bag is not so shiny. Engine and shift lever were untouched. The bars did their job and I ordered a replacement. As yet, I've done nothing with the bag as it serves as a reminder to not get cocky
  17. Goretex boots and pant liner, REVit rain shell over Motoport Kevlar mesh jacket, Knox OutDry gloves (not yet tested in a long heavy rain), and of course a silk scarf around my neck to seal the jacket collar
  18. I don't know how they'd do in a getoff, but my Sands are 4 or 5 years old and feel just broken in.
  19. I have a Garmin Zumo 660 (discontinued) and had an earlier model Zumo prior to that. My favorite feature is being able to construct a multi day trip in strange territory on my PC and then load onto the GPS. My quest for the twistiest road segments has sometimes landed me in places that were less than ideal, but all in all it's worked very well. Last time I looked, I couldn't find a phone app that matched the trip planning functionality of the Garmin software. Perhaps that's changed?
  20. Quite an assortment, I have one ear canal that seems small and the EARsoft Grippers seem to be a tad easier to get in for a good seal. I also use Ear Oil for lubrication sometimes
  21. Shoei Neotec. It's the only modular I've found that fits my head. Now that I've had modular, I'[ll never go back. Comes with internal sun screen and a pinlock shield. Love the former, don't like the latter. Lacks clarity. Biggest problem is the price.
