  1. Family commitments today but managed a nice 50 mile saunter to scrub in the new avon tyres in the cool of the evening. Worked as expected. Enjoyed the short bimble around local roads so still have a good 1/4 inch chicken strip on the edges so need to go back out tomorrow to be safe (or so I told the Wife.😃
  2. Dosn't the ABS system only kick in when the wheels stop rotating, If it was working properly on a dry tarmac surface and you were stopping it must be ok.
  3. Avon's are the only brand I have bought for the past 8 years or so this will be my 4th set. I honestly don't think that you get a bad set of tyres nowadays and most will certainly exceed my ability and need.
  4. Nice new Avon Storm 3D XM tyres fitted today. Have used them on the last two bikes without any issues and although it hardly ever rains in Scotland I have always found that they are good in the wet. Unfortunatly getting wheels and tyres down to the shop for fitting took longer than expected so I didn't have time to go out for a wee shot to see if I could feel any difference. Job for later in the week.
  5. I have a similar looking tent that dazzler has highlighted bought for this years summer tour but not used in anger yet Their are a number of chinese manufacturers making similar tents at reasonable prices. Mine was branded VONTEC, Dome style, good head room for a small 2 person tent, two alluminium poles, two doors and storage areas very quick to put up mine is coming in at 2.3 KG and a small pack size. Looking forward to using it middle of August As was mentioned in a previous post I took a hacksaw blade to a cut away a bit of extra plastic under the pillion seat yesterday to free up a bit of extra room to give me a bit more storage space for a small compressor and tools inder the seat. Very quick and easy mod.
  6. I got a cheap e-bay example too, good price at about £6.00 Sat in the house for a few months before I went to fit it and found that the top plate would not fit past the toe lever, had to modify with a hacksaw to allow fitting. Still worth the price
  7. I had started to make a sat nav mount to fit to the holes in question but on measuring up I felt if would further restrict easy access to the ignition switch so abandoned the idea.
  8. In aggrement with comments above, I have been running My tracer for a year now and would recomend it for its comfort for long distance work. Mine came to me with the Yamaha comfort seat and I fitted a Puig touring screen.(standard screen on early models hopeless) I am in the early planning stages for a visit to My brother in Basel 2 off 450 mile days and hopefully a few mountain passes and return and have no second thoughts about using the Tracer. Can't comment on pillion comfort but If you are considering a used bike bear in mind that the newer Tracer 900 has a longer swing arm length and may be more comfortable for a passenger. I discounted the GT model when I bought mine because I felt the standard side cases at 22 litres were too small for my requirements but this might not be an issue for you. Good luck with your intended purchase.
  9. When I returned to motorbike riding about 12 years ago I picked up a pair of Ex army combat boots issued but looking like never worn and brand new as a temporary measure intending to replace them with a motorbike specific pair within a few months. These were so comfortable I ended up riding in them for 8 years. Now I am using a pair of RST Paragon waterproof boots Ride motorbike magazine best buy recomendation.
  10. The schedule I refered to stated 35 to 45 mm slack which I always felt was too loose, the handbook from yamaha mentioned 5 to 15mm of slack which I felt was too tight, I have been keeping mine at 25 to 30 mm slack on the centre stand and then getting my mate to check slack with me sitting on bike.
  11. Pictures from E-bay of the connecters I ordered to solder to the sat nav wires
  12. I have my sat nav connected to one ot the white auxiliary feeds at the front of the bike under the display operated when the ignition switch is on. Heated grip when I fitted them were on each side of the bike a black and a grey connector if I remember correctly. I should have a picture of the fittings I used if I find it i will put it in a post.
  13. I had a quick look at the rubber fittings on my Puig screen and it looks like these bolts are nowhere tight enough. mine are much more deformed at the end. (too dull today to take a decent picture of mine) End of the rubber mounting highlighted should be much more deformed and looks like they should be too easy to pull out..
  14. We are heading up that way in a few weeks, original plan was clockwise on the NC500 but with campsite showerblocks and other facilities maybe not available we went for plan B and will use two fixed locations at Inverary and Fort William instead. Be good to get away with the bikes.
  15. The first bit of personalation I did to mine was the clear puig touring screen. It works well for me most of the time but in the rain I feel I have to stretch and sit up a bit more to let the wind blast clear my visor. The next mod was a beak to help balance the look of the bike because I felt that to my eyes at least the larger screen gave the bike a sort of top heavy look.
  16. Welcome to the Forum Paul. You have some lovely roads down your way, My two riding mates and myself spent our summer tour in Wales last August and had a fantastic weeks riding. You wount be dissapointed with the tracer and after the GSXR you will probably be in a much more comfortable riding position.
  17. Now considering suspension upgrade as well for my bike, I was happy enough with the stock set up but last Friday I had my first "aw F--K" moment with the bike on a narrow, uphill, bumpy bit of single track road. I must have been pushed easily two feet of my intended line, felt much more than that on the 8 foot wide strip of tarmac that I was on. Very interested on the outcome of thread.
  18. Welcome to the Tracer club Gaz, I have a Tech Black example with a few matt black pannels. I wasn't sure as well when I saw the bike at first but as I had just driven about 200 miles to buy it it wasn't a deal breaker. The rest of the bike more than makes up for it I'm sure you will enjoy running it.
  19. Hi Stew, Sounds like a good day out. I was down your way last Sunday. Down past Clatteringshaws loch, Newton Stewart for a sandwich lunch in a car park and along the A714 back up to Girvan then home roads were very very quiet, lovely run out.
  20. Hi Simon, welcome to the forum I run a 17 plate ordinary Tracer but here I my observations 1. I havn't had any issues or noticable free play in my setup but the cable is easily adjusted to take up excess play. Just make sure the throttle dosn't come on at full lock 2.I have felt with mine that the fueling can snatch at low speed from off to patially on a bit less in STD mode You do get used to it but flashing the ECU or addjusting the throttle position sensor can eliminate this. After the first few weeks of ownership I didn't feel the need to do this. 3.A you mentioned Lowering links are available and easily fitted that can drop the seat hight by 25mm or so this will have the same leg room but will decrease the ground clearance and you will need more effort to lift the bike on to the centre stand. When I run mine with the aftermarket shad side cases I just put up with the fact that I am going to hit them sometimes with my foot. It is a fantastic bike and if you can make it suit your requirements you should go for it.
  21. My two riding buddies and myself went for the Sena range. "Friend A" got in first with a quite expensive Shoei helmet with built in coms system While cheaper "Friend B" and myself opted for the SENA 10s Intercom. We like that we can group intercom with all three of us connected and taking part in the same conversation as we are riding.
  22. My understanding was that every thing from 2017 on had a slipper clutch as standard. My Bike was registered in April 17 but I am not sure if it came fitted with one or was an earlier model . Clutch is very light in action.
  23. Not with the Tracer but I had a similar sounding issue with the Diversion 900 I once owned. The gear shift return spring had broken. the bike would change down the gears but to change up I had to lift the foot lever let it drop to reset then on the second lift it would change up. I used it like that for a few days till the replacement arrived. Looking at the repair manual the set up looks different on the tracer but I wonder if the return spring might be stretched or broken.
