Guest dmizer
So a FI bike does not have a manual choke, but it must have an automatic one. No, an FI bike does not have nor does it need anything resembling a choke, automatic or otherwise. The ECU simply tells the injectors to add more fuel when cold. I rode a CB1300 that had knob on the side of the bike labeled "choke", but was nothing more than a fast idle switch.
jeepinoutwest
How about the a faulty temperature sensor causing the computer to not adjust the fuel metering like the choke once did? 2001 Honda Saber - sold 2003 Yamaha FZ1 - sold 2005 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2007 Yamaha Vstar 1300 - sold 2008 Kawasaki Versys - sold 2009 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2010 Yamaha Raider - sold 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 - sold 2014 Yamaha FJR - sold 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 - lemon back to dealer 2016 Yamaha FJ -
Guest dmizer
How about the a faulty temperature sensor causing the computer to not adjust the fuel metering like the choke once did? A faulty temperature sensor would trigger a code and cause lots of other problems. A temperature sensor isn't very complex, they're just variable resistor. Further, a IAT sensor or MAT sensor will likely only cause a bike to run lean or rich. They're unlikely to prevent the bike from starting occasionally. db5304
I talked to some Yamaha guys at the demo at thunder in the valley. They said I should let my dealer know about mine so they can let Yamaha know as it could be a simplenecu update. I really think its just not building full pressure on prime of the fuel pump. Not bothersome enough for me to give up the bike that long. I've been meaning tto try and grab a video. Has to be right conditions thoug.
jeepinoutwest
Dealer has had it 2 weeks today, they still can't figure it out. 15 business days out of service qualifies it as a lemon under the law here. 2001 Honda Saber - sold 2003 Yamaha FZ1 - sold 2005 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2007 Yamaha Vstar 1300 - sold 2008 Kawasaki Versys - sold 2009 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2010 Yamaha Raider - sold 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 - sold 2014 Yamaha FJR - sold 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 - lemon back to dealer 2016 Yamaha FJ -

jeepinoutwest
Update: Dealer has had my bike 27 days and they have replicated the issue and tell me for some reason the bike loses fuel pressure overnight and they can not explain why. Neither the dealer or Yamaha have a solution yet. There is certainly a problem with fuel delivery though. I know others have mentioned this same issue. It may be worth looking into further. 2001 Honda Saber - sold 2003 Yamaha FZ1 - sold 2005 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2007 Yamaha Vstar 1300 - sold 2008 Kawasaki Versys - sold 2009 Yamaha FZ6 - sold 2010 Yamaha Raider - sold 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 - sold 2014 Yamaha FJR - sold 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 - lemon back to dealer 2016 Yamaha FJ -

Wow, that sucks. Mine did it 2 times when new, but nothing further. Seems like something needs to break in before it works good. I wish you luck. Maybe time to invoke the lemon law and get something else. A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. jeepinoutwest
My bike has been returned after 37 days in the shop. They replaced the fuel pump and told me it SHOULD be all set. Time will tell. Hope all is perfect for you now. I think as in other threads, there may be an issue with the ignition switch. Seems to wear in perfectly after use, so I hope the best for you. skipperT
Based on what you have reported the shop finding out during troubleshooting, a bad check valve in the old pump was allowing the fuel pressure in the line to drop too quickly. I hope it's starting better for you now. Enjoy! Skip
