Non-tiny LED turnsignals

Recommended Posts

Unlike, apparently, the rest of the motorcycling universe, I'm looking for a set of cool looking LED turn signals which are not significantly smaller than the stock ones, at least in terms of lit area. Virtually everything I've seen seems hell-bent on being as inconspicuous as possible and that, to my mind, is a recipe for disaster. While LEDs might be brighter, making them smaller negates any advantage. Flush mount signals, likewise, are a serious hazard because turn signals need to be seen from the front and flush mounting invariably presents a lot less to be seen by oncoming traffic.
Anyone got a suggestion?

I have this on order, I'm not sure if it will fit yet or be legal but....

I also have a set of aftermarket signals on order, to fit them you'll need a set of these signal adapters for the front and back:

They fill the fitment gaps left by the 2dbsz6x.jpg

And an LED flasher relay to bring the flashing frequency back to normal:

If you still have your knuckleguards, you can get the lights for those, which serve as both running and turn signals if you get the amber kit with turn module:

I installed those, and have a set of bright flushmounts to replace the pumpkins, and the combo serves to greatly increase signal visibility both front AND side, as the flushmounts are more visible to someone next to you in traffic and the knuckleguards provide a nice wide profile that gets the flashers away from the other front lighting.

I have a set of the tiny chinese led signals and am not happy with them. I plan to replace them with Yamaha genuine units. Not the LED plus ones, the arrow shaped ones we can get in Canada. After looking for a long time, I have come to the conclusion that there are only 2 extremes...cheap useless ones or expensive well made ones and not much in between.

The signals on the SuperT and FZ10 are really nice LED lights. But they are $50 each for the front and $75 each for the rear. I don't really want to pay $250 for replacement signals.

However my friend that rides a harley said "that sounds about right"

These are the official Yamaha ones, which they currency only sell in Europe for whatever reason and are quite pricey, but they do fit the styling nicely: http://yamabits.co.uk/yamaha-led-flashers-indicators.html

I'd link you to a picture of them on the bike, but the pics I could find are on fz09(dot)org and apparently whoever runs this forum has some weird beef with the existence of that forum such that any links to there get auto-corrected to an invalid URL.  WTF is up with that?

I am going to order through this guy on ebay. He seems to have a high quality tail tidy and good quality turn signals: http://stores.ebay.com/customizedbikeparts/_i.html?_nkw=fj09&submit=Search&_sid=3657755

I ordered from Creese1 (that guy) and installed the turn signals. They're ok. They're not tiny like photons, but they're much smaller than stock.

They really are plug and play with his connectors. His plates work just fine. The turn signals are brighter than stock incandescent bulbs BUT only from certain angles. This is true of a lot of LEDs - narrow viewing angle. On our bikes, they actually turn outwards maybe 30 degrees. The turn signal portion is actually only 4 white LEDs on the inside of the signal.

I'm going to have to ride them and get feedback of their visibility at night.

I couldnt believe that Yamaha had put full LED headlights, full led tail lights on and left those massive incandescent indicators.
