Science Biker FJ-09 Maintenance/Repair Video Mega-Thread

Hello all,

If you haven't figured it out, nsmiller on this Forum is Science_Biker on YouTube. I've been asked to condense my maintenance and repair videos into a single thread.

My name is Nathan and I'm an early career engineer finishing graduate school and working in Kansas City. I own an FJR 1300 and my wife has an FJ-09. After buying my FJR, I was excited to see that Bryan Glynn of TwoWheelObsession had posted a DIY video on just about every possible service necessary to maintain a Gen III FJR. I'm trying to produce the same type of quality content for the FJ-09. When I started I was using only my cell phone camera held in my hand, but I've started trying to up the production quality of my videos. This includes upgrading my camera majorly to a Sony A6000 with a tripod, and I'm trying to stop saying "um". I'm also getting a bit better at video editing, but I'm still far from being a master. YouTube isn't my full time job, but my goal is to make quality content that you all benefit from watching. Hopefully I'll get enough videos/views that I get a small kickbacks from YouTube to help support the time I put into my channel.

From now on all future Science Biker videos will be added to this thread instead of creating a new thread. I'd love to hear suggestions for how I can improve my videos for you all. Also if there is a particular service you want to see a video on, and it currently doesn't exist, feel free to share that too.

I anticipate that all work that is done to my wife's FJ-09 will make it to YouTube one way or another as long as we own the bike. I've never taken any of my vehicles (car or bikes) to a shop to be serviced for anything except tires. And in general I change my own m/c tires as well. So you can eventually look forward to videos such as valve clearance adjustments, chain replacements, brake pad replacement, etc.

From another Nathan who has been watching your videos ;:what you are doing will help a lot of people to do the regular maintenance so their bikes would be safer and operated right. Thanks

On the side note when you do the brake fluid flush don't ever let the brake fluid spill on any parts of your bike and have rags and brake fluid cleaner handy. Keep up the good work Nate.??

There is another video on throttle body synch. But adding a video on how to adjust accelerator position sensor to reduce snatchy throttle would help a lot of guys.
I plan to take a look (and video) that next time I have the tank off.
Coolant change video will be coming in the near future.

Hi , about valve adjustment video will you do it  ?. Thanks
Absolutely, but it will be at least a year or more likely 2 before our bike is ready to have that service. I also plan to do it on my FJR1300 (very similar) if Bryan Glynn of TWO doesn't beat me to it.

This is my friend's FJR, so normally I wouldn't post this here, but since you asked about valve clearance, maybe this will be interesting to you.

Hey all,

Its been a while since I've posted. We moved back to KC area (Peculiar, MO) and bought our first house. Going to be posting a few new DIY videos in the near future including front/wheel rear removal and tire change. Today's video is about how (and why) to replace the clutch cable if you have a 2015/16.
