First impression on new ride

Recommended Posts

Hello all, as I mentioned the other day on my first
post on this forum, I purchased a new 2017 FJ-09.
Well the weekend is officially over, and I was lucky
enough to log about 140 miles on my new ride, and
I can honestly say the windshield is absolutely
Worthless!!!!!!! The noise is unbearable. So this
is where I'm asking some of you for your help in
recommending a windshield that is extremely shorter
In design. I'm looking for something just big enough
to cover the instrument panel, and that's it! I'm
looking for a nice quality that fits the way it's
suppose to fit, and not interfere with the hand guards.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

PS: My last ride was a Harley Switchback, and
I sure was missing my hard saddlebags this
past weekend. I'm literally counting down the
days until my local Yamaha dealer calls, and
informs me my new bags are instock and waiting
to be picked up.

What about the wind noise, will this new screen be considerably quieter ?

Everything will depend on you:  Your torso height, arm length and windshield preferences.  I have a long torso and very short legs and only want the air blocked off the center of my torso.  I don't want to be behind a big screen that blocks it all (much too hot hear in summer).  So for me,  short and narrow are ideal.  I added the deflector to split the wind blast off the top.  Now some hits the helmet and some goes over the top.Good luck

I have 2 now. The MRA for local rides here in the summer of SOFLA and a Ermax "high screen for trips.

I did a short evaluation of the Ermax in "what have you done to your FJ" thread....

Great company. I invited them to join the forum as a vendor but not interested. I think they were afraid I was gona ask them to give us discounts.

I agree that the stock screen is awful. If I wanted a shorty, I might try to cut down the stock screen. It's not like there's going to be a market for original screens...

As far as the bags go...have you considered getting the Yamaha mounting hardware and then getting some used FJR cases? Bigger, cheaper. Or you could get Shad (which I have) or Givi, which would give you more options, added functionality, and perhaps be cheaper.

Haha. Indeed they are great, too bad they declined.

Side note, they do have a policy that if somebody orders 3 or more shields they get some percentage off (15% or something??). Might be a group buy opportunity in it.
