nhchris
Anyone know the purpose of the horizontal line markings on my new Road 5s? I wonder if they provide an objective measure of chicken strips and provide a goal for us all to strive for. "Hey dude I hit the middle line today!!!" chitown
I though that's what the directional arrows were for on Roads
Supporting Member texscottyd Posted July 26, 2019 Supporting Member Share Posted July 26, 2019 Now you have me wondering... I don’t remember seeing those on my Road 5s. Will have to check it out when I get home.
Supporting Member texscottyd Posted July 27, 2019 Supporting Member Share Posted July 27, 2019 Confirmed. I had never noticed those three lines before... my ‘fun gauge’ has been how much of the Michelin Man gets worn away. 1
Premium Member superfist Posted July 27, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted July 27, 2019 I never noticed it either. There looks to be plenty of room for more fun on this tire. So... I was also curious as to the actual purpose of these lines, so I scoured the internet. Including the Michelin website and couldn't find anything. My assumption is that they're lean angle indicators. Their customer contact said they were open 8a-8p Eastern time, Monday - Saturday, so I called their number and their offices were closed (noon Saturday). So I left an e-mail message through the contact point on their website with the question... we'll see if they answer. Michelin MICHELIN Road 5 Tire Tires | Michelin USA ... Their hours are a lie! With the Roads you get an itty bitty chicken arrow to go with the sidewall arrow

Premium Member superfist Posted August 6, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted August 6, 2019 Well, I got an answer from Michelin customer service and the answer is that the lines are cosmetic and don't indicate anything at all. I still prefer to refer to it as a fun gauge. 2

Well they just took the fun out of it didn't they? 2 1 Ain't no fun when the rabbit gets the gun!
vincep
I do not think the word "cosmetic" has any relationship with "tire". Will the likelihood of the tire getting a date improve with the three lines? At a minimum they need to add lipstick!
