  1. @keithu - Awesome report and photos - Thanks. And congratulations on completing 1,000 miles in 18 hours, I might try that some day. I have ridden a lot of multi-day road trips, several of them riding solo, the spot tracker sounds like a great idea although I did read a fair share of negative reviews on Amazon, your thoughts? With all of that time on the road you get the chance to reflect on the modifications you have done or what you might still need to do to make your ride more enjoyable. Anything pop up where you thought to yourself "When I get back I need to..." or "I really wish I would have..."? Thanks **EDIT** I see you already answered some of the questions just as I posted. 👍
  2. There IS a master link, there has to be, its a chain with 2 ends. It is a rivet type, NOT a clip type. I have never heard of a chain having a proprietary master link. A 525 DID x-ring chain should accept a 525 x-ring master link, that's why you can buy spares, they are interchangeable. You obviously have a chain breaking tool, do you have a chain press and riveting tool to replace the master link?
  3. Glad to hear that you made it back safe. I followed throughout the day and looking forward to the report tomorrow.👍
  4. FJ-09 Parabellum Flyscreeen This photo is in the highest position for the example of height.
  5. Agreed, several inconsistencies in the tracking. Some of that area is very remote, with no tracking for a full hour that could mean a lot of area to cover in a search.
  6. Already back in Oregon near Grants Pass, only 3 hours to go! - 👍
  7. How did you beak a chain? Do you mean you cut the masterlink to get the wheel off? Here are some options for masterlinks. Motorcycle Chains | DID Chain - EK Chain - RK Chain - ThreeD Chain | Sprocket Center Sprocket Center is dedicated to being the world's premium provider of...
  8. I recently switched to a small flyscreen and cant believe how much I enjoy it, even at 80-85 mph on the interstate.
  9. How does that touring screen feel at 90+ degrees? do you have a summer sport screen?
  10. The progress has stopped in Burney, Ca for over an hour and a half. 🤷‍♀️ I hope there isn't a flat tire or other mechanical issues. **EDIT** It looks like it only pinged 2 other times between Burney and Willow Creek. Otherwise, making great time.
  11. Those look really sturdy. I would email them and ask about production, they might be able to make a set for you, since the only thing different between the 22mm and 25mm set is the actual clamp.
  12. This might help or at least get the gears turning for a creative solution.
  13. It has been almost 4 years for me and even though it happened on one of my favorite twisty roads, I have never been back. It's kind of a superstition/ bad luck feeling for me but I have plenty of other good roads to ride.
  14. The service manual says 33ft/lb. It has been a while since I installed mine and I don't recall the instructions calling for a different torque spec. so I don't remember if I used 25 or 33 when I installed them but I used the same torque on both sides.
  15. This whole area is AMAZING, as well as almost every road connecting to this area. Rattlesnake Grade, from Enterprise, Or to Asotin, Wa is worth the effort alone. 😎👍 Google Maps
  16. @keithu - Good luck on the ride, I have been on all of those roads several times and they are all nice, even that section of I-5, in fact its extremely scenic all the way down to Redding. I haven't had the chance to ride Northern California yet this season, I am envious. Once you head North out of Willow Creek toward Happy Camp make sure to put her in A-mode and wring her neck, I'm sure you are aware of the stretch of road I am talking about. 😎👍
  17. If you bought the bike used then you can just buy the manual. Yamaha Owners Manual Book 2016 FJ-09, FJ09G 2016 FJ-09, FJ09G. Excellent for use in your garage. Do not worry about...
  18. I set mine up the exact same way and it fits me nicely. I **believe** that the 180 degree difference is 10mm forward, so coupled with the Helibars 25mm back measurement is only 15mm back from stock position.
  19. Yamaha website lists the width as 33.5" though I cannot verify the accuracy of that info. Dimensions L x W x H 85.0 in x 33.5 in x 54.1 in - 56.3 in
  20. @Lady-M - Welcome. That's awesome that you can still ride with your son and husband, get out and ENJOY!
  21. I understand your POV and completely see where you are coming from but I see it differently... In my case my bikes are for recreation and I want them to suit my wants and needs 100% - regardless of the cost. I could have bought a different bike to start with but for me that would probably be a $20-$23K BMW or Ducati + the cost of ownership and then I would still want to personalize it. In the past 30 years, I have never kept a bike stock, I could understand if I was wasting money on useless carbon fiber or billet aluminum "bling" but I have always modified them with suspension, seats, handlebars, tires etc. - functional, useful upgrades. I have never considered resale value and could care less what its worth in 8-10 years - did it put a smile on my face while I owned it?. I read a lot of forums where people argue "The bike was only $9k, why would I spend $1500-$2000 in suspension or $600 on a custom built seat?" My reply would be - regardless if its a budget bike or a high dollar premium bike, make it the best you can so you enjoy it.
  22. The Tracer is around 170# lighter and has much more agile handling. The motor feels more 'eager' than the FJR but with 1/3 less displacement it will not have the "pull your arms from their sockets" drive of the FJR, nor will it have the relaxed cruising rpm, the motor likes to rev and is very happy between 5 and 8K rpm. If you are riding with a passenger, the Tracer is smaller than the FJR and could be considered more cramped in comparison but it also has more seat to foot peg leg room. Even though it has a lot of nice features it might feel like a step down in creature comforts (especially since you are spoiled with the electric windscreen and suspension) but is perfectly capable of multi-day road trips with a few ergonomic modifications (custom seat). Most importantly, this forum community is much nicer (in my experience) than the FJR group.😎👍
  23. If your brake pedal feels "squishy" the very first thing to do is check for any air in the line, it should only take a minute or two to do a quick bleed.
