  1. Yes that's the exactly the reason I had the road pilots on my versys 650.here in the Northeast and Canada where I ride you will be riding in the wet. And I never had any drama with the michelins in the rain. Riding Nova Scotia in the rain a month ago on the stock tires, hit a pothole and felt the whole bike hydroplane. Not to say it couldn't have happened with the michelins, but their wet performance is supposedly their forte, and they're dry grip is plenty good enough for me.
  2. Nolan n 44 After wearing one of these when you put a regular full face helmet back on it's like looking through the porthole .
  3. Planning to replace them with the Michelin road pilot fives which is what I had on my last bike . It is a little bizarre that Yamaha only recommends one specific tire for the bike. It makes you wonder if all the other must do 's in the manual say are equally ludicrous . I have to say though as OEM tires that come on a bike they're much better than any others I've had on new bikes .
  4. The owners manual says that after extensive testing only use The Dunlop,is it possible that is right?why would they say that?
  5. with the added benefit of deterring would be thieves - they would eyeball the bike with the flapping trash bag seat and figure what P.O.S
  6. just got back from a 1500 mile trip to nova scotia and it was as comfortable a seat as i have ever had. didn't like the tractor seat looks but that's easier to take than pain in the rear. one thing i found out, and i am not sure if this is true of all seats, don't remember ever having to deal with this ( as in normal day to day i don't leave bike out in the rain) with other bikes / seats - if the seat gets rained on over night it leaks through the seams in seat so that even when dry the next day your ass gets wet all day long. i guess the solution is packing a bike cover, but that is just one more thing eating up space in luggage.
  7. it is one downfall to putting the large givi windscreen on, since you are almost all out of the wind you can really hear the sixth gear whine over engine noise. it seems like you always give up something when you gain something else.
  8. I had same problem as randy m. ordered two different kinds and both needed modification to work to beware. one of them made it so the sensor for cruise control wasn't depressed enough to allow cruise to work. they must not have actual tracers in china yet
  9. i had seen references to auxiliary connector, so i need to track that down. and for some reason i hadn't done what i usually do, which is check you tube, figured bike too new for much info. i have had regular garmins plugged in to the 12v dc receptacle. but the new givi windshield i put on blocks the receptacle space enough that the massive plug that comes with garmins won't fit ( and i hate having the huge ball of zip tied wire that the 6' cable becomes ), and having done a lot of research ( and installing ) on types of cables and plugs, the gps' still randomly shut off. bugie's note about that jack being limited to 2A is interesting, because i have a 12v plug that displays amperage output, and it usually reads around 3.9. i will definitely look at 4-41 in manual
  10. want to install a hardwired zumo to bike.want to route wires behind bodywork. manual only gives directions for removing the front lower wings. manuals these days seem to say take to the dealer for about everything. i have broken body panels on other bikes by pulling out when should go back first, etc. . you can't tell by feel whether or not it just needs to be popped out, or needs a lateral first. is there a good service manual for the new tracer out there?
  11. i installed the givi 2139 which i like but juggling all the hardware for installation required tiny fingers and much tape to hold together while assembling. diabolical. however for a windshield the size of the givi, necessary. as you say, yamaha's own touring windshield was stressing out the stock mount, and that was much smaller
  12. wondering if instead of heli bars or some such, has anybody used a different set of bars that would bring grips closer?
  13. just sold my versys 650 for the 900 gt. but only because i could, not because i needed to. my versys was 2012, which didn't have ABS, not sure why the new ones don't where you are. and ABS was a big deal for me. all the extra electric gizmos like cruise control, etc, etc. are great. and, as i discovered during the break in period, below 5000 rpm, which is a high as you need to go, it doesn't feel that different than the versys - plenty of power but not hyper fast. so it is a relatively easy, tame bike at that rev range. on the street, if you are making a pass that requires all 115 bhp, you probably shouldn't be making the pass anyway. suspension is definitely an upgrade on the 900 gt. but having said all that the versys is amazingly close for way less money , probably the best bang for your buck out there.
  14. i believe the manual says not for shifting first and second gears. i have a different experience with mine. while i am sure you can bang it through under heavy throttle, i do a quick roll off of throttle as i shift, the same as when using clutch. but i have found that the shifts are actually much smoother with less clunking that shifting with clutch. shifts from third on up doing it this way the shifts are so smooth it almost feels like an automatic
  15. i installed a givi 2139. i am 6' and at the high setting it does put me out of the wind on the highway. but just barely over my helmet with seat at low height. so at 6' 6'' you will be getting at visor which wouldn't be good. the givi is borderline ridiculous looking at it's size, can't imagine what something bigger would look like. at you height you might be better with a smaller screen and get the wind at your chest. anything above that but below top of helmet will cause buffeting at highway speeds ,which the worst scenario
  16. just installed the givi 2139 touring windscreen on tracer 900 gt and a couple of warnings. while quality of acrylic heavy and good, as usual, there are a couple of things you should know. because of the size givi felt that additional bracing needed, and you have to buy a bracket kit at over a $100. probably does need, as yamaha's factory touring screen which is smaller, did seem to tax the sliding bracket. but the bracket blocks the use of the 12 volt socket, for garmin chargers anyway. and the one hand adjustment is gone - you have to loosen two screw handles before you can move, so forget on the fly. and maybe it's just me, but to install the screen on all this you have to somehow place 4 layers of washers and brackets, etc. behind screen which is not even finger space size, and thread fastening screws through all of this with out dropping all the little pieces. i think i could rebuild an engine in less time and frustration. oh, and - the knob adjusting screws were twice as long as they should be ( you have to cut off ), and the kit was missing rubber washers ( trip to the hardware store ). since my driveway sheet of ice won't be able to try out for a while
  17. thanks, i am going to give new grips a try. i don't ride in below freezing temps anyway, and in the 30's i don't have grips turned up all they way anyway
  18. has anybody ridden some distance through the rain ? wondering if the sidecases are waterproof?
  19. have done a couple of 350 mile days, and the bar / peg vibrations were no problem. even though you feel it, the frequency or whatever doesn't seem to bother hands or feet. i still might have put on softer grips but i assume that it would insulate the heated grips
  20. AT 5' 9" The touring screen would be perfect. at 6' the top 2" of helmet in the wind which as noisy as no windscreen ( though it is way better than stock ). if i duck down just a little bit it goes all quiet. question on mra screen- i has always seemed to me that having that black hardware holding the little top screen would be a visual annoyance ?
  21. the pegs don't bother me either. and my wife says much roomier than the versys 650. thought i might drop the footpegs an inch when somebody makes a kit for it as they did the versys, but was surprised to drag my toes on pavement a couple of corners so maybe not. i was worried that with lengthened swing arm the bike wouldn't be quite as agile as the versys, but handling is as quick and maybe more stable when leaned over. also like the stock tires fine, what came on versys new were scary. the shape of these stock tires different but you go right to the edge of them with no drama.
  22. mine is on backorder until end of september
  23. just curious - replaced my footpegs with ebay rubber ones . had to cut off the rivet on left side, why would they install two different ways ?
