Premium Member keithu Posted November 12, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted November 12, 2017 Is it just me or does that chicken with sunglasses look sort of like a red FJ-09? Not sure I can unsee this.
Premium Member 2and3cylinders Posted November 12, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted November 12, 2017 I have the OEM heated grips and below 55 down to 40F I wear my Cortech Hydro Gt gloves that are waterproof and have pretty decent armor, as well as my WnS Gen4 heated jacket liner with their single Heat-Troller. Below 40 I wear Grabber toe warmers between my Smart-wool socks and a very thin Cool-Max over-sock in my TCX X-Tour (Italian 1st Edition) Gortex boots, and then wear my WnS Ultimate Touring heated gloves (which have knuckle armor and a double-leather reinforced palm to which I added a Nomex-backed aluminum palm sliders over) and their Dual Heat-Troller. My cold weather suit (good up to about 80F) is the Aerostich Transit 2 GorePro leather two-piece 120-degree zip-together waterproof and solar reflective suit (now unobtainum in most human sizes though I also wear my Aerostitch Roadcrafter 2-piece suit in cold and hot weather) with a Cool-Max type long sleeve 1/2 zipper-to-neck base-layer shirt (I wear even when it's in the 90's) and Cool-Max type semi-compression seamless long-leg undershorts (again, also worn in hot weather) with one of several types and thicknesses of bicycle type tights over the undershorts. With this apparel and gear I can manage all-day rides down to where ice is developing on the roadway (and salt), and then I call it quits. BTW, I have the KTM handguards. eeetea
Handle Bar Muffs are the way to go. You can wear regular gloves and still stay warm. The secret is to make sure there is no air gaps anywhere and to buy a type with " fur" linings. This slows the air movement in muff and the Tucano ones have a fur cuff too. Far Far far better than heated grips... BUT with heated grips it's like a sauna On my GS I also had a gaucho too... 10 hours in damp 3 degrees (Centigrade) is easily doable in comfort. Honda SS50, Kawasaki Z200, Honda 400/4, Yamaha TDM900, Yamaha XT660Z Tenere, KTM 990 Adventure, BMW R1200GS, Mr Stevens, and my favourite of all: Yamaha MT-09 Tracer...a bit like FJ-09 only properly named :¬P
LaFartessa
2and3, is that light smoke screen a V-Stream on a MadStad mount? I'm interested in what you think of the 'wing' you installed on top. I like the mid-sized V-Stream for everything except superslab droning; then the wind roar gets to be a bit much, hence my question. TIA
kimmie
I use FIVE winter gloves.....but I am a girl They are pretty good - they aren't Goretex but they have gone through some of the worst weather I've ridden in and they have been great! Happy shopping. Kimmie......the lady who likes to take little detours

TIA My late spring, summer, early fall short screen is actually a Chinese opaque black acrylic available for about $25 on eBay, as is my OEM size clear double bubble. Premium Member wessie Posted December 15, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted December 15, 2017 Richa have gloves that often win best buy awards - I have these https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/69186 - bought for £40 secondhand. Used them to ride 80 miles to my sister's in -2C with heated grips. At 5C they are toasty. For long distances I would use muffs if it is going to be wet or quite cold. I hate putting cold, wet gloves back on after a fuel stop. This signature is left blank as the poster writes enough pretentious bollocks as it is. Since I’m in the USA they would be expensive and... are they really water proof? I have tested them several times and Ride magazine runs some of the most thorough consumer tests we have and they rate them. sprocket
I would suggest a combination of Oxford heated grips and waterproof and perhaps lightly insulated gloves. You need the waterproofing to stop the flow of cold air.
morkys
All these suggestions look great. I think to start with I need something to keep me from getting cold hands on cool mornings on the highway. Gloves without venting would do it. 2017 FJ-09 - Yoshimura Y-series Exhaust / MRA Sport Screen / Evotech Rad Guard & Fork Sliders / Custom LED Rear Tail Light / Lowering Links / Mirror Extenders / Low Seat / Tail Tidy / Shogun Swingarm Sliders - Touring mods > Madstad 20" screen (on standby) / SHAD SH36 Hard Cases / SW-Motech Rear Alu-rack - Mods not yet installed > Fender Extender - Mods on the way > MT09 Adventure Pegs / Sargent seats / Knuckle Guard leds / Speedtech Photon Flush Mount LED signals / SW Motech Frame Sliders
