Calling the welding experts amongst you! So i have just received my new Akrapovic S-Y9R8-HEGEHT exhaust and whilst checking the headers I noticed there is a lot of discolouration around the exhaust header weld points. Is this normal or indicative of weak/bad welds?
-
I see you have a lot of clearance when dragging the pegs (awesome pic). I am finding that when I drag the pegs I am actually dragging the centre stand too. Have you done any mods to raise the centre stand (like cutting down the rubber)?

I just ordered an akrapovic instead. If you mask it off it will most likely show. Since scorpion insist on using the red ring they can enjoy continuing to sell to black and red bikes only

aftermarket Akrapovic exhaust vs OEM Yamaha Akrapovic
bugie replied to bugie's topic in FJ-09 Exhaust
Yeah i thought the warranty might be an issue although i suspect that the fact it will be a non-dealer installation in itself will make warranty claims a bit problematic -
Had contacted my local dealer about the Akrapovic exhaust for my GT and got quoted 1600 euros for it. Spoke to the local agent for Akrapovic and got quoted 875 euros. Pretty much a no brainer so I put a deposit down on the aftermarket Akrapovic. Is this common with other dealers in other countries? My understanding is that the only real difference is that the OEM one has a laser inscription vs a sticker. Are there any other differences? Lastly, I opted to go for the optional catalytic converter but was wondering what you lot have done? Did you go for the Catyltic convertor or not? And are there any performance differences between the cat vs non-cat installation? Chris

@texscottyd - It was only 2 months old at the time -
What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
bugie replied to yamaham's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
@captfire22 - Thank you for the pics!! I think the indicators will end up being hidden by the saddle bags with this tail tidy -

@captfire22- Could you please take a photo of the tail tidy from the side. If you also have hard side cases on could you also take a pic with these on please? I am curious to see if the indicators remain visible with the hard case on? -

@TracerDoc - here you go. You simply slide the OEM metal clips off and replace with the screws highlighted -

I have the powerbronze beak on my Tracer GT. You need to remove the old fasteners to install it. Lines on the side of the beak don't match perfectly with the lines of the 2018 tracer though. I think they cheekily marketed it for the GT without redesigning it so I personally wouldn't buy the powerbronze one for the '18 model -
My bike whistles at speed! What could it be?
bugie replied to undecider's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
Try ducking your head down next to the tank so you are out of the wind and see if it stops the noise. The Tracer seems to direct window at the top of the visor opening no matter what windscreen you use (unless you went for a shower door version). I get a whine/whistle when i come off the accelerator but that is all. I do get a hell of a lot of wind noise in the helmet though -
Make sure the bike is idling at the correct speed. My old GSR600 used to do this when i pull in the clutch when the idle was too low

I have an '18 GT. I meant different as in it fits differently and NOT it won't fit. Other owners will be better placed to help you out but posting a pic would help
-
I suggest you post pics of the brackets and bags you got as I recently learnt that depending on the year, the bracket mounting is slightly different
-
That is true! It takes a little getting used to and at first you may find yourself over accelerating, but it'll be fine when you get used to it. The advantage is the wider grips mean that accelerating/deaccelerating requires very little twist of the wrist. The additional wider grips also mean that the pressure on the wrist is distributed across a wider area so makes it a lot more comfortable.

I have done this and while you can feel the heated grips on 10, there is still a noticable decrease in their effectiveness
-
I think the Tracer is very apt in sport riding and have no problem scraping the pegs on the Tracer. I believe in terms of sport touring the Tracer is more focused on the Sport front than Touring.
-
It is indeed a Matte blue
-
Completely forgot about that option so no i haven't (living in the Mediterranean it hasn't been any issue though )
-
The heated grips can still be felt on setting 2 and 3 but there is a noticeable decrease in their effectiveness.

I have just installed grip puppies on my GT and was very pleasantly surprised at how well it dampens the vibrations on the Tracer! http://www.grip-puppy.co.uk/

My understanding was the FJ-09 was the US name and the Tracer was the name in the rest of the world. So you guys seem to have finally gotten in line with the rest of the world 😂 In terms of seat I believe there are some variances in the Tracer 2017 and 2018 which would explain the fact that in the retailer distinguished between the FJ-09 and Tracer.
-
This is interesting.. So they are saying there is actually a difference in seat between the US and EU/rest of the world model?

tyretotravel (www.tyretotravel.com) does this too. I have used it for years but now it has become a paid app.. bummer but understandable. You create an route in googlemaps, import it into the app via the url and it converts into sygic, copilot, garmin, tomtom itinery files. Great for route planning at home!!

Is there any difference between the 2018 GT and 2019 GT other than colour?
