  1. Threads sure seem soft there. Felt like something was about to shred, but otherwise...great idea, and sure comfy for the legs.
  2. So my sliders arrived today; itching to install and try them out. They're different lengths! I could have sworn somewhere on here there was mention of which should be installed on which side, but I can't seem to find it now...
  3. I watched that review just last night; really interesting notes on the drive geometry and suspension. Had no clue the placement of the drive sprocket would make such a massive difference.
  4. Chain maint every 2 to 3 tanks of fuel. Carry gear to do this on longer rides, incl chain adjustment, but torque everything except engine internals by feel. Usually somewhere between 'just snug' to 'two finger tight' to 'as hard as I can without stripping something'. Using aCar to track 11 cars, trucks, motorcycles. There's no way I'd be able to track even one vehicle without reminders! Interesting thing; some vehicles would exhibit a sudden drop in economy before a failure, viewable on a graph. Less so with newer vehicles...the computer/electronics usually compensate pretty well.
  5. @mingo similarly, I went from a V-Strom DL1000 to an FJ. What a difference. The only thing I miss about the V-Strom is the 3" foot peg lowering kit. Very comfortable, ergonomically speaking. What I hadn't counted on (lack of experience) was the difference in handling...the DL1000 has a 19" front tire, FJ = 17" and a WORLD of difference. @Simon Pretty sure you're going to really enjoy the FJ.
  6. Sweet! I have a bit of play in my seat (high position) as well, but hadn't got to it yet. Great idea, and glad to know it can be done. Now where's my Gorilla tape.
  7. Added roughly 130 km's to the odo last night & lots of bug splatter to everything else Google Maps
  8. I work in IT and literally have this on a t-shirt
  9. Lounge in the kiddie pool, kayak, or ride...can't decide

  10. We own an older Porsche (1980 928 for the curious), and someone - more than one, I believe (on the Rennlist forums), was able to look up our VIN and see what options came from the factory, as well as some other handy info. I'm not sure if they just interpret the VIN, or are actually looking it up somehow. I'm wondering if something like that might be available for our FJ's / Tracers ? The reason I ask is because I inquired about the cam chain tensioner at the dealership and he said "it has the 3rd iteration of the recalled tensioner." So is there a way for us, besides the dealership, that we can find this info ? I'm guessing it's dealer only, but...never know. There are some clearly resourceful folks here.
  11. Thanks; yes, I'm glad for the advice here. The cheapies seem like they rattle a lot and don't cover the rad tanks on the side like this one does.
  12. +1 for the touring (FJR) bags. Got mine with brackets & liners for a great deal. Of note might be that the bags are actually the same...the only difference is the lid.
  13. ...aaaand the clamps arrived on the weekend. They're muuuch more substantial than I was expecting - easily enough for a light mount.
  14. Also - cleaned / oiled the chain today, and installed the Evotech rad guard that came in the mail recently... Evotech Performance Aluminium Radiator Guard '15-'19 Yamaha FJ-09 / Trace 900/GT Evotech Performance Aluminium Radiator Guard '15-'19 Yamaha FJ-09 /...
  15. The last time I was pulled over in BC, it was a Mountie between Banff and Golden. I forget how fast he clocked me at, but he let me go and said, if you set cruise for about 9 km/h over the limit, you probably won't get a ticket. So, if I want to zone out a bit, or am otherwise in a populated area - I've been doing just that ever since. 9 or 10 over for 20+ years since that warning and never a ticket. Even photo radar intersections here in Edmonton have a tolerance..I"ve set cruise for anything less than 5 km/h over the limit - no ticket yet. Same with the photo buggies.
  16. I found the handling to be just top-notch in the city or highway. I've a feeling you will really like this bike.
  17. ...my kind of fix! ...thanks for the links. I already have an LED (v similar), but the clamps are exactly what I need.
  18. I've had great luck with Lexin. Specifically these, but I think they have a new generation now. As expected, the range between bikes varies with terrain. Open and clear - nearly a km if not a bit more. In the city - as little maybe a block or two; it depends. I got them for significantly less; not sure why there was a price increase. I think a pair was $130 -ish CAD; must have been a sale. Great value for the money - a bit difficult to hear at highway speeds, but certainly good enough to let my caller know I'll just pull over and we can chat. No problem with audio quality at all in the city or speeds below 100 km/h. Everyone I've called with them can't tell I'm on a bike; the noise cancellation is very good. To answer your last question, if my g/f and I are too far apart, yes they will disconnect - but there is a fairly easy-to-feel-with-gloves button to link up again. Hasn't ever been a problem. Cons: FM is a nice-to-have, but in order to find it I have check the manual just about every time. There aren't many buttons, and with a lot of features, less buttons means awkward moments of figuring stuff out. It's far easier to just stream something from my phone. It's possible to link up to 4 of them, but each rider must maintain their position in line, as in rider 1, 2, 3, 4. If 3 and 4 switch places, for example, things get a bit weird. Not sure I'd even want to try linking more than two together, TBH. The process for linking 3 or more is a bit nuts. For two, though - couldn't be easier nor more stable. Cardo seems to be the most recommended. Intercoms between two bikes is absolutely a game-changer! Very easy to negotiate traffic and ride strategically when you don't have to rely on hand signals!
  19. Great findings, thanks for the write up! ...I"ve been wishing for a track day, mostly just to get to know the bike better and see what it...and I...can do. Looks like a great day!
  20. As much as I do love me a good turbo (g/f drives a twin-turbo SUV), they tend to have higher instances of reliability problems. Any time you add boost or attempt to squeeze more power out of an NA engine, things tend to break. We motorcycle owners tend to keep up on maintenance more so than most folks who only have daily-driver cages, I'd wager, so maybe turbo lubrication won't be a problem, either. Maybe Yamaha will come with something solid; who am I to say ? Otherwise - could have a whole lot of wow factor
