  1. I searched around, and found some posts on this topic, but nothing seemed to match my scenario. I shamelessly borrowed this photo from elsewhere on this forum, but can shoot pics of my bike if it'd help. So I have a Madstad touring windscreen; all good. However, likely due to the mechanical advantage of the taller windscreen, the mount point at the bottom, in between the two headlights, seems to have two little 'fingers' that hook into the honeycomb. They seem to have popped out on my bike. I just thought that's how it should be until I recently installed a RAM mount and noticed exactly where the flex originates. Went for a spin last night, and first bump I hit knocked it loose again, the two fingers just popped right out; the whole assembly is really floppy. Am I missing something silly ?!? I had something like this happen on a DL1000 with a tall touring windscreen..the fairing snapped at the thinnest spot in between the headlights...good thing my g/f had some Gorilla Tape!! Here's the diagram (hope it's ok to snip something from the service manual), but I don't see how to strengthen it up in that area:
  2. @Clegg78 ah HAH I knew there was something custom in there haha thanks for that. I'm not surprised to hear that a moto-dashcam is part of it. Been looking at some, but it's hard to know what's too good and what's good enough. Funny how the Innovv K2 demo video shows it being installed onto a Tracer / FJ... Thanks for the abundance of info. Exactly what I was after. Really appreciate how you blogged it all in such great detail.
  3. My MAN!! I find it refreshing. People look at me funny when I say this! Also...sounds like a fantastic trip you have planned. Take lots of pics! EDIT: OK just watched (most of) one of your vids (as much as work time will allow...). I guess 'take lots of pics' isn't something that I needed to say, lol. Those are some great edits there, I look forward to seeing more. Great choices in soundtrack, too. Question for you. I've done some GoPro stop motion too, with excellent results. I'm curious to know how you managed both storage and camera battery levels while on the highway. I mean, it's easy in a car, just connect the camera to a USB port. Bit more difficult on a bike. And yet, you seem to have different angles, as well as different media. Just curious as to your flow and data management.

  5. Those lower bars look great. Nice lil cage. Very sharp.
  6. Sweet! Congrats, and enjoy the forum!! Lots of very friendly and helpful folks here.
  7. Way kool!! Always good to stay fresh. Never know when you might need that muscle memory. Shortly after I got my FJ, I took some cones to a parking lot and did some weaves and emergency braking work. The very next day I was riding through a parking lot, someone was backing out and didn't see me - I just swerved around them (it was an awkward area, very tight) and first felt relief..but then some pride!! Let's just say I bought a round of ice cream that evening...
  8. I had to order from Japan for my DL1000...a local shop quoted me over $700 for a headlight fairing worth $250 the year prior. It took several weeks, but the cost - all in - was on par, roughly $250 CA.
  9. Those do look really good! ...as does that satin blue
  10. Now that I think back on it, this explains the other FJ-09 where I work...the owner also covers the windshield during the day.
  11. My dad has had great luck with solar chargers. He literally silicon-ed one to his lawnmower, so it's connected 24/7. He got one for one of of his bikes, too, but it's not mounted permanently. Maybe you could just zip tie it to the bike or something. https://www.amazon.com/solar-powered-battery-maintainer/s?k=solar+powered+battery+maintainer EDIT: Just saw the part about no sunlight. So much for that idea! What about some kind of quick-disconnect on the bike ? Some way of connecting / disconnecting the battery without tools. I'm thinking for eg of UPS connectors or something: Wouldn't be too tough to wire that in. Now that I think about it, I just might do this on my own...
  12. Wow, great pics and story! That fuel cell is so bad-ass Glad to hear you made the best of it!!
  13. There are a couple of tracks here, but I've yet to comprehensively figure out which one to go to. One is south of Edmonton (about 1/2 hour from the downtown core) at Castrol Raceway, and I think they have a moto-track day, but can't find it offhand. Found it last year, but I wasn't ready - plus it ain't cheap. Safety training and such for the first visit, and IIRC you don't need it again on subsequent visits. There is also Stratotech Park, north of the city near Ft Saskatchewan, again roughly 1/2 hour from downtown. I think you'd have to register here first: MotorsportReg | racing, track day, HPDE, autocross, sport bike, karting & motocross events Online event registration for 1,000+ motorsport clubs, racetracks... There used to be a couple of private motorcycle advanced courses. The course I really wanted was through CTEC, but they don't offer it any longer. I did the basic course with them and they were fantastic. There was very little theory, it was all hands-on riding and very intense. They really drilled the 'good' habits into us, and I liked their style and overall approach. I checked earlier this year, and there is another private course that can be had, but it looked a bit 'meh', plus everything was shut down because of Covid-19 so I just put it out of my head. Looked again just now, but nothing appealing came up For now I guess it's just drills from MotoJitsu, DanDanTheFireman and MC Rider.
  14. That looks like a very fun ride!! Thanks for the pics and the write up
  15. That's exactly right, the learning never stops, and is why I like his channel so much. Lifelong learning. I was hoping to book another course this year, buuuuttt....heh 2020 has been a complete wash for such things. It'll be interesting to hear his feedback on A mode
  16. That sounds about what I'm seeing, too, approx. 45 - 55 MPG or thereabouts; depending. Just slightly better than expected. Pretty decent IMHO.
  17. Not for auto paint. You just have to clean the surface and apply the liquid with a clean cloth (I think some kits supply a cloth) and elbow grease.
  18. Cermaic coating on car paint and windshields is very good. I haven't personally ceramic coated any of my vehicles yet (but I know ppl that do, and it's quite good), but I reluctantly accepted a windshield coating. I say reluctantly because I've tried every type of Rain-X type wiper, fluid, etc - you name it. They all suck (in my opinion). They all leave a glare that's tough to see through. Not the ceramic coating, though. No glare at all. It's actually decent. I am considering ceramic coating on my FJ, as well, mostly for the UV protection. Of all the weathering, UV is the harshest and most destructive (IMHO), so any protection from that is worth it. It's a bit of a bonus that dirt and grime don't stick to it very well, so washing becomes much easier/faster.
  19. Man that looks sooo much better than my generic strip of red reflective, vertical, on each pannier.
  20. Sweeeet, looking really good. Also...nice tires! (only because I have the same....)
  21. Ugh, that sucks. Nothing worse than a 'door ding' and whatnot.
  22. Sweet!! You're in for some very fun rides, @AaronCh!
